How to Preserve Your Fresh Flowers
Women love receiving flowers. In fact, they love fresh flowers so much that they want to keep even long after they have dried, wilted and somehow have lost their beauty. The only problem is that they have little information on how to do so, except keeping them in between book pages. But, fret not, there are many other ways - more creative ways, to be exact - on how to beautifully preserve them for years. As a reputable flower delivery in Manila, we share with you the ways:
Air-drying
A classic technique, air drying involves hanging your bouquet upside down, allowing the air to wick moisture away from the blooms as they gradually dehydrate. The only problem with air drying is that it doesn’t always yield success. Flowers may shed their petals and are at risk for mould growth. Plus, the process itself can take more than a week. If you’d like to try air drying, you need to wait for the blooms to fully open before tying them together and hanging them. Place them in a well-ventilated area and out of direct sunlight. Leave the bundle for up to four weeks, checking them at regular intervals.
Other Ways to Preserve Flowers: In Vase
For an effortless way to preserve flowers, place your bouquet in a vase and submerge the stalks in a few inches of water. Leave them until the water has evaporated. When done right, the flowers should stay upright but dry. But, keep in mind that it may only work best for flowers with hardy stalks such as baby’s breath and hydrangea.
Pressing
Pressed flowers serve a wealth of purposes from beautiful wall arts to dainty home dĂŠcor. In this method, place flowers in between the pages of a book, traditionally a yellow page book. Then, weigh down the book with heavy objects to keep the petals flat. Once dry, squirt the flowers with hairspray to strengthen them.
Microwaving
To save you a few weeks, you can opt to microwave your flowers for beautifully-preserved blooms in minutes! Place your flowers in a microwavable container of sand and microwave them on a high setting for at least 3 minutes or until they’re as dry as you want them to be. While fast, keep in mind that this method may not always have favourable results.
Freezing
Freeze drying is a process often done by florists. It works by draining the moisture out of the petals so the results are timeless flowers that maintain their vibrant colours and sweet smell. Although on the slightly expensive side, it promises to end with long lasting results. Whatever your choice of preservation may be, these methods are guaranteed to turn your flowers into treasured keepsakes that will last you a lifetime.
