Keeping Up With Carinya

What a start to the year! Not one that we were hoping for, however, it is something that we have been practising and planning for.

Hearing the words "Exposure Site" in this current climate is quite daunting, however, we were very confident in our internal procedures that have been ongoing documents since the start of COVID.

Thankfully we are no longer an exposure site and fortunately, no residents were impacted.

Thank you for everyone's support and confidence in the team at Carinya, we certainly appreciate it.

Visiting Currently, we are allowing 2 visits per resident per day. These must be booked in via admin and strictly no weekend visits unless approved by the care manager.

Residents are still able to leave the facility so long as they follow community guidelines.

Looplearn We are excited to announce that shortly we will be implementing a brand new visitor and staff check-in system.

Looplearn has been developed specifically with aged care in mind. Our new kiosk will e fully equipped with Temperature sensors, Face Recognition, Document management and more.

This should provide a more efficient sign in procedure.

Farewell We are saddened to wish our loved residents farewell and send our sympathies to families and friends at this hard time.

To our dear residents, thank you for allowing Carinya to be a part of your journey, no matter how much time spent with us we have enjoyed your company and will miss you dearly.

Valentines Day Keep your eyes peeled for the next edition of the South Gippsland Sentinal Times. We believe there is a special valentines feature with Carinya residents making a feature.

The oldest record of a valentine being sent, according to History.com, was a poem written by a French medieval duke named Charles to his wife in 1415. Charles penned this sweet note to his lover while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London at just 21 years old. One of the lines in the poem? Murals For so long Carinya has had a less than attractive grey brick retaining wall.

Thanks to the work of the Committee, Carinya received a grant which enabled us to employ the services of Melanie from Arts Eleven to beautify our dull wall.

We can't wait to see the finished murals and we can then start on the garden along that side.

Save the Date Our first fundraising event for 2022 is happening on the 26th March 2022.

Carinya will be holding their Trivia night. It is always a great night with many laughs.

COVID Update Friday the 28th January 2022, approx. 30 staff received their booster vaccination. The government have mandated the booster vaccination by 1st March 2022 to all health care workers.

Residents received PCR and RA tests during our lockdown thankfully all were negative.

We are still following our internal procedures to minimise exposure and risk.

Development From the 23rd of December 2021, we were handed over another completed stage of our development.

This included Hair Salon, Multipurpose room, staff room, Leisure and Wellbeing/Physio office, Care Manager Office, Admin Office and Meeting room.

My Aged Care My Aged Care is the starting point to access Australian Government-funded aged care services. The phone line and website can help older Australians, their families and carers to get the help and support they need.

My Aged Care provides: information on the different types of aged care services available an assessment of needs to identify eligibility and the right type of care

referrals and support to find service providers that can meet your needs information on what you might need to pay towards the cost of your care.

Retirement Village Farewell

It is with sadness I notify you of an Independent Living Unit Resident, Russell Presdee. Russell has been a part of the Carinya community for two years. Russell passed away on Tuesday 25th January in Frankston Hospital. Our condolences to his family.

Well Wishes Sending get well wishes to Lyn and Sue who have been unwell. We wish you both a speedy recovery.

Are you up to date with contacts?

We would like to bring to your attention the importance of having Next of Kin and any advance care plans in place, this makes it so much easier for Essential services to do their jobs efficiently in times of emergency and when people are at their most vulnerable. A list of all medications and illnesses is also extremely helpful for paramedics or first responders to assist you This could be kept in a pocket on the fridge accessible and visual for Emergency services.

Wow! the units have begun, I will endeavour to keep you informed and up to date on the progress.

The next stage is to remove and move the existing site sheds.

Lawn Maintenance The scheduled lawn mowing each fortnight (weather permitting) is continuing.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

The weeds between driveways, rockeries and paths have now been sprayed.

Scheduled Maintenance The team have been working on the gutters and the smoke detector batteries.
