“I’m extremely happy and excited to represent the Oilers in the Quebec tournament,” Lungal

said. “Our team has worked realy hard to get to where we are. I want to thank our coaches for getting us to this once-in-alifetime opportunity!”

Winning the OEG U13 Cup is no small feat as 20 teams from Edmonton and surrounding areas compete at the top level to get to the coveted spot in Quebec; with a single

knockout format as winning teams advance to the next round.

The Quebec International PeeWee Hockey Tournament will host more than 120 teams from around the globe.

“We are so proud og Hudson and his team for working so hard to have this amazing opportunity!” said his mother

Sarah Lungal. “He has so much love for the game and has always worked so hard to get to where he is now. We’re very excited to have this experience that we’ll never forget.”

“The topic of ‘mail-in ballots’ was not brought to council, therefore, council did not make a decision with regards to this matter,” said Amanda Cox, Village of Holden CAO. “In speaking with our Returning Officer, Christine Mackay, I was advised that this has never been done in the village prior, and therefore was not addressed as it has never been an issue.

“Looking through the legislation it says council would have had to make a resolution before Nomination Day. Additionally, I was advised that there is specific criteria that must be met for this option; it was not the intention to exclude any individual within the village from voting.”

According to Cox, the

specific criteria that had to be “met” included – having a disability that prevents someone from travelling to cast their vote; and working away from one’s designated polling centre.

“I’m shocked and deeply disappointed; my father is a lifelong Albertan with an active mind, and he values his citizenship,” said Kelley Abercrombie, the Holden resident’s daughter. “It would seem he’s being politically disenfranchised by the decision not to ensure he can cast his ballot wihtout risking his life!

“The election is scheduled during the peak infection period of the pandemic. It’s not as if COVID-19 has come out of nowhere. I would have expected reasonable accommodations. This is discrimination!”

WECAN to fundraise on Oct. 24 Moush John

The WECAN Food Basket Society will be hosting WECAN All Walk For Food Security on Sunday, Oct. 24 to fundraise and get some donations and contributions for the organization.

“With the pandemic hititng most non-profits hard as most have had to cancel their events, this will be a virtual, familyfriendly walk to raise funds so that we may continue to offer low-cost healthy eating options for our members,” said Dawn Arnold, Secretary for WECAN Food Basket Society. “The contribution of donating a prize item in the form of gift certificates or merchandise would be greatly appreciated and help this event to be a tremendous success. Your donation

will encourage participation in the event and thereby directly impact our ability to continue to support our community.”

The non-profit organization monthly serves more than 650 families at 22 depots including the Tofield-Ryley Depot.

“We have continued to work throughout the pandemic as an essential service but are struggling to function beyond our pre-pandemic capacity.”

WECAN has partnered with The Grocery People, to save their clients up to 40 per cent on the cost of their groceries.

“This ensures that our members/clients get nutritious and quality food!” she added. “Each third Thursday of the month, WECAN orders are ready at the local depot, depending on where you live. And as it’s built on volunteers,

“Then they launch into their pitch once people answer. We should let people know that it’s not actually us and they should make sure any calls are coming from 662-4046 and not an Ontario or 877 number!”

Lisa Kuflay, who has

answered more than 10 calls this past week said, “If we are promoting one of our supplements, we will usually call and then leave a voice message.

But in none of the instances, there were any voicemails recorded, which is why we are certain, it’s part of the spoofing scheme.”

In 2014, when this was reported at The Commnity Press, one of our other newsrooms, Robert Palmer, Manager of Pub-

lic Relations for Telus had said, “We strongly advise anyone who receives one of these calls to hang up and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.”

He added that it is extremely rare that these scams catch anyone, but the potential for fraud is clear. Any phone number can be spoofed, but typically businesses or institutions like banks are chosen due to the level of trust associated with them.

Obituary Eldon Jeffrey & Grace Jeffrey Eldon (85) and Grace (83) of Camrose AB died peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on September 30, 2021.

Eldon and Grace were married for 64 years. They were always busy in the oilfield industry; owning EdAlta Oilfield and E.J. Oilfield before moving to their beloved farm in Tofield AB in 1979. They retired from farm life and moved to Camrose AB in 2002.

They are survived by: Their children – Deborah (Allan), Kevin (Marie), and Kelly. Their grandchildren – Candace, Derick (Lisa), Shawn, Luke, Joel, Bryton, Kyle, Serenity, Brianne (Dave), Tanner and Lacey (Jeremy). Their great grandchildren – Micheal, Kylie, Cody, Keifer, Colton, Liam, Austin, Tristan, Logan, Colton, Kaiden, Morgan, Alyssa, Dakota, Easton, Paisley, Keltie, Angelica, Ele May, Christian, Kassandra, Aiden and Jaxson. Eldon’s siblings – Maxine, Lorraine, Corrine, Doreen and Brian (Lucielle), Grace’s brother – Harold (Paulette). Their sister-in-laws – Edna and Patsy.

As well as many nieces and nephews.

They are predeceased by: Eldon’s parents – Edward and Viola, Grace’s parents – Harold and Lyla. Eldon’s siblings – Kenneth, Gerald, Milbourne, Teddy, Dale and Ellsworth. Grace’s sister – Doreen. Their granddaughter – Tonia.

Cremation has taken place and as per the wishes of Eldon and Grace; there will be no funeral or memorial service.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Loose Ends: Cry Me A River

It has been suggested that we could all use a crying room in our homes. Even if it was done tongue-in-cheek

(the speaker was a bit of a kidder) doesn’t mean it’s a silly idea. Back when Covid first reared its ugly head I’m sure many of us would have welcomed a place to sob unobserved. There even may have been a line up at the door.

According to Medical News Today there are several benefits to crying. It has a self-soothing effect; releases endorphins that reduce pain; aids sleep; and even

boosts vision. In short, we all feel better after a good cry. And I don’t know how they got the stats, but they claim that women cry an average of 3.5 times a month; men average 1.9 times per month, that they’ll admit to, anyway. Those numbers are in the US, of course. I’m sure we Canadians are made of stronger stuff.

But if I’d known about these benefits sooner I would have happily be-

come more of a crybaby.

Take my pre-surgery knee pain for instance.

Instead of biting my lip and ‘being strong’ (because, as Hubby is fond of saying, it’s a long way from my heart) when it hurt like you-knowwhat I could have just let loose and bawled like a baby. And if I’d just let the tears flow every time I stubbed my toe or poked my finger with a sewing needle over the years I may not be wear-

ing bifocals today.

As for adding a crying room to our house I say it’s my house and I’ll cry in it if I want to – in any room I please. The closest we have right now (and probably forever) would be the three bathrooms. Close the door and no one knows that when you turn on the tap you also turn on the tears. But that’s just when visitors are here.

Alberta RCMP kicks off spooky season with tips for securing properties Moush John Tofield Mercury

Alberta RCMP are urging property owners to consider Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) this season, according to a report released earlier today.

October is one of the top highest months for B&Es to seasonal properties and cabin owners are encouraged to consider CPTED when closing up their properties for the winter. Business owners are also encouraged to consider implementing CPTED principles before the cold weather arrives, which can make new installations more difficult.

Recent RCMP jurisdiction 2020 statistics outlined the following:

• Over 460 reports of B&Es to seasonal properties for the year; • Over 4,700 reports of B&Es to businesses for the year; • In October, there were almost 50 B&Es to seasonal properties; and • In October, there were close to 400 B&Es to businesses.

According to Alberta RCMP jurisdiction yearto-date January-August 2021 statistics, the following data came to light: • 207 B&Es to seasonal properties which is a 36 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2020.

• 2,465 B&Es to businesses which is a 25 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2020.

In an effort to curb break-ins during the fall and winter months, Alberta RCMP is providing these tips: – Safeguard your business by making sure your doors are locked and alarm system is set at the end of the day.

– Trick or treat yourself to a security camera. Just the presence of a camera could deter a thief and it can help identify them if they do commit a crime.

– When locking up your cabin, taking home all valuables at the end of the season is as easy as pumpkin pie.

– Make sure to follow a routine when it’s the witching hour. Did you set the alarm? Are all the doors locked? Are all valuables away from the windows?

– Don’t wait until tomb-morrow to think about crime prevention.

Things as simple as turning on lights, keeping your property wellmaintained, and locking doors can help deter a criminal.

– Locking up your cabin for the season? It’s not a bat idea to periodically check on it to make sure nothing is amiss. If your property isn’t cared for, it’s easier for a crime to go undetected and unreported.

– When packing up for the season, make sure to leave your cabin as bare bones as possible. Take home valuables and lock up anything you leave behind.

– Consider installing metal doors, bars or roll shutters on windows,

MP DAMIEN KUREK Battle River-Crowfoot

When I was first elected in 2019, it was with a platform of good governance, strong representation, and commonsense conservative solutions. I never deviated in my pursuit of these principles. On September 20, 2021, it was an honour to be elected once again as your Member of Parliament. I am grateful and thankful to all constituents for this opportunity to fight for the region I call home. Our ingenuity, innovation, and resilience even in the toughest of times is one of the things that make Battle River-Crowfoot such an incredible place.

There are many thank you’s that need to be said after an election. First, I need to thank Danielle, my boys,

and the rest of my family. Politics takes one away from their family a lot, and Danielle has been my rock. Also, thank you to my election team, staff, and EDA who put their heart into making sure that we had a strong campaign and presence in this constituency during the election, and each and everyday in between. Thank you as well to all those who worked in the election process, especially as it was so last minute and under challenging circumstances.

I would also like to thank the other candidates for taking part in the democratic process.

Ideas, platforms, and party loyalties aside, I respect anyone who puts their name on the ballot

Elections can be stressful and at times, grueling, and thankless. Everyone who is involved deserves our respect and gratitude.

This unnecessary election has created deep divisions regarding vaccinations, lockdowns, and provincial loyalties. Let’s make this clear: this was not an election for Canadians. It was a $600 million attempted power

grab in pursuit of a Liberal majority, called by Justin Trudeau at a massive expense to taxpayers. He failed; now he has to face the consequences.

While the election is over, the work has just begun. Ensuring east-central Alberta is heard, protecting our rights, finishing the fight against COVID-19, working towards national unity, promoting our oil and gas sector, and making sure government is

held accountable for their actions are just some of the issues I will address as your Member of Parliament.

Accountability, res p o n s i b i l i t y, ensuring that there is effective representation, and taking action so our economy can succeed will continue to be my primary focus while I represent you in Ottawa.

In closing, I would again like to thank the constituents of Battle River-Crowfoot for electing me

as your Member of Parliament. Now let’s get to work.

The group has an online application form, stating: “We are making a three year projection, so if you have a student(s) in grades 4-11 you can fill out a form.”

Charter schools like the proposed Holden Rural Academy, are tuition-free public schools operated by a non-profit organization employing Alberta certified teachers.

“A day at the Holden Rural Academy will include in-class learning, as well as practical, handson learning,” said Karla Janzen from the Holden Rural Academy Society.

Since Battle River School Division’s (BRSD) decision last year to close Holden School, many people in the area of the village have been on board supporting a new charter school called Holden Rural Academy (HRA).

As of mid-Sept. the group has submitted a preliminary application to the Minister of Education, saying it has 56 students ready to begin the first year and 17 more ready for year two for Grades 7-12.

“That’s 80 percent of our goal of 70 students the first year,” it says on-

This programming will be offered in larger blocks of time, to facilitate off-campus opportunities and more comprehensive hands-on learning. New Mental Health Navigators program running at Kalyna Country PCN Leslie Cholowsky Staff Reporter

The Kalyna Country Primary Care Network (PCN) has recently introduced a new program, hiring Donna Tindall and Jaclyn Chartrand as Mental Health Navigators.

While Chartrand will handle clients in the Vegreville and Vermilion region, Tindall will serve Killam, Viking, Hardisty, and Tofield physicians and their patients.

Tindall has worked in Flagstaff since 1994, initially with Home Care, then joining Canadian Mental Health in 2001, primarily working in the Independent Living Support program, recently taken over by Alberta

Health Services.

Tindall worked with clients of all ages, from 16 to 99, helping them through many issues to get back on track. She said her work with Canadian Mental Health gave her a lot of latitude, and she had clients throughout Flagstaff and the eastern half of Beaver County.

When AHS took that program over, Tindall says, “I had the option to apply for a position in the AHS program, but I decided to take a break and think about what I wanted to do going forward.”

She did think about retirement, with the full support of husband Sheldon, but when the Ka-

lyna Country position came up, not only was she interested, but her peers urged her to apply.

“Initially there was only one position, and I hesitated because of the amount of winter travelling it would entail.” She said when the PCN split the position over two regions, she found the job more attractive.”

The PCN has a lot of programs for the prevention and management of chronic disease and general good health promotion, but this was an opportunity, right up Tindall’s alley, to help Kalyna Country PCN to expand that to include mental health supports.

“It’s an opportunity to improve the quality of

care and access to the services available to patients in our rural community,” she says.

Physicians in Killam and Hardisty are part of the Kalyna Country PCN, says Tindall, and clients can access the Mental Health Navigators through their doctors, other community agencies, or through self-referral.

“We connect with them, talk to them, and can hook them up with the services they need.”

She says her role is not necessarily a long-term connection with each client, but she will direct them and then continue to follow up to ensure they received the care they wanted. That in-

Tindall, and PCN Clinical Manager Charlotte Thompson both say the idea for the program came out of a focus group on mental health supports needed within the family physician office, and through another pilot project, called Reducing the Impact of Financial Strain (RIFS) that was run in Vermilion and Viking from fall 2019 to spring 2021.

Thompson says, “We discovered that social work help was an important part of helping patients struggling with financial strain in our rural communities.”

Thompson says the

Beaver County Council candidate profiles: Division 4 Incumbent Bruce to put knowledge forward for another term Patricia Harcourt Division 4 incumbent Barry Bruce is seeking a second term on Beaver County Council after spending the last four years learning the ropes of a job with many complex issues to solve.

The third generation farmer has been retired for the past six years. Married to Anita, the couple raised three daughters and now also have six grandchildren.

“I really enjoy being a councillor,” he said. “I find it rewarding. It’s a whole education in itself,” joking that councillors should “get some sort of a degree” for everything they learn while in office.

“I have gained a lot of knowledge and a lot of respect for past councils,” he said.

“We have had agendas that were 170 pages long…I hope to put that knowledge into the next four years,” if re-elected.

And Bruce’s focus will be on roads in his division that he feels have been in need of upgrading and work, stating that wealth should not be the determiner for who gets a good road.

“The last four years have made it abundantly clear that our roads are not to the standards they should be,” he said.

The local roads in Division 4 are 80 years old now.

“They were never designed for Super B’s,” he said, refer-

ring to the grain trucks now being used to collect grain for the regional grain terminals.

Roads need upgrading starting with those deemed “essential” first. Then the county should “get to as many roads” as it can to modernize and upgrade them for today’s realities.

“This issue is the big issue of the time,” he said, warning: “It’s an expensive endeavour… We may have to increase See BRUCE BCC2

Candidate O’Shea wants more accountability for constituents Patricia Harcourt Shawn O’Shea is married to Kathy O’Shea and has resided in Beaver County for the last 30 years. The couple has four boys who were educated and participated in sports and 4-H in the surrounding communities.

He is running for the position of councillor in Division 4 in the October 18 municipal elections. Accountability in dealing with issues brought

forward, attention to aging infrastructure and flood control are some of the issues he would like to see addressed.

“We own and operate a small mixed farm and I also work as a contractor for the county working with animal damage control/land-flood control,” said O’Shea.

“The main reason I am running for a seat on council is hoping to get more accountability for the constituents of Division 4.”

Some of these issues include accountability and timely closure to issues brought forward by constituents, deteriorating infrastructure across the county and land flood control and damages associated with that.

He believes in improving accountability, “in a way that when an issue is called into either the respective councillor or to the office that the complaint gets dealt with in a timely manner.”

O’Shea says that “Increased

communication between all parties and some way to track the problems and update what is being done would help a lot.”

Former councillor Collison hoping to make a difference Patricia Harcourt Dale Collison is running for councillor in Beaver County’s Division 4 in the Oct. 18 municipal elections. He served as the division’s council representative from 2013-2017 before stepping aside.

Now he is ready to come back and challenge incumbent Barry Bruce and another candidate, Shawn O’Shea.

Collison is married to wife Ellen and together they raised two children on their cattle

farm north of Bruce. They now have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Collison’s reasons for coming back into the fray include issues with administration, road policy, and the need for agriculture promotion. As well, he has since resolved health issues which clear the way for getting politically involved again.

Collison wants to advocate for more attention being paid to the eastern side of the county, especially to the road sys-

tem, which he feels is just as important to people trying to get their vehicles and farm equipment around.

“The roads are just terrible,” he said, noting that “the county has put some good roads in the west end.” But he said the same is true for his part of the county, even though “it’s a different type of living” than in the west end.

Collison recalls that students from Holden and area have to take two buses to get to school in Viking now that

the Holden School has been closed.

“They switch buses a mile north of us,” he said. “The kids get off one bus and onto another one.” It’s just one example of how difficult it is to get from one place to another on country roads.

“We’ve got to get somebody in the county that knows about roads,” he said. “There’s been no road building in the past 10 years.” Instead, the emphasis has been on laying See COLLISON BCC3

“I want every incentive to go into those roads,” he said, calling agriculture the county’s #1 industry.

“The honeymoon is over for oil and gas.”

Bruce said that roads need to be targeted for upgrades “so farmers can go about their business, that’s got to be our #1 priority.” For him, that means every road should receive attention whether it needs a road build, a shoulder pull or just a patching job.

But there have also been improvements, including the discovery of a new way to do roadside mowing using a grader attachment that is highly efficient and faster than the standard approach.

“The grader operators can grade, gravel, push snow and mulch,” he said, using this method, with increased capacity and lower costs.

Theoretically there could be “a wing mounted mower for every grader,” he said, calling it “a huge asset to the county.”

The county intends to buy more of these attachments and “people will get their mowing done,” he said, starting next year in June and July when it should be done.

Bruce has also heard “repeatedly,” that people don’t like the winter gravelling program. For this program, too, he wants to see gravelling done in the summer, “at our convenience when we want it done.”

But he also predicts that the years to come could prove to be difficult ones, noting that the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) grants from the province are going to be significantly cut in the next few years.

As for his overriding goal concerning the next term: “I would like to see everybody in the county having a road adequate for their needs.

We cannot have paved roads for some while others have to drive down a mud path.”

He advocated for “evening things out a little bit,” by spending “a little bit more money” to have an adequate road for people who are paying the same taxes but not getting the same level of services as those living in the west end of the county.

“Everybody should be treated equally,” he said, no matter what part of the county they are residing in. Bruce said that people in the west end who don’t like dust should pay for dust control the same as those in the east end are doing.

His part of the county provides the food for the country and the world, he said, but doesn’t get the same level of services including in roads.

“It’s so insulting to residents out here in the country,” he said. “We’re not asking for pavement,” but his division has multi-generational farms that have waited up to 150 years while west end residents who live there for just 10 years get the attention.

“We’ve lived here our whole lives.

We don’t ask for much,” he said, adding he “squints a bit at people demanding (services such as paved roads) because they pay more taxes.

“We need more talent,” he said, but the county sold off all its road building equipment but never contracted out the road building work as was intended.

“They should have contracted it out but they never have,” he said, calling this “all council’s decisions” that were never followed through on.

“This is part of the reason I’m run-

ning,” he said.

“We’re over gravelled around here,” and shoulder pulls just cover over the problems.

The result is that the roads “are not carrying the loads,” referring to the large grain trucks and farm machinery being used these days.

“We should have used packed clay like they do in the rest of the country.

Collision feels that “contractors can do a better job…The county (employees) want to have the jobs but they don’t have the machinery…If they want (a road) repaired they need the equipment and they need trained people on them.”

Collison also feels that “agriculture should be a little more prominent, noting there are new innovations that have not been promoted or used locally.

And “administration costs are too high compared to other counties,” although he said they have moved“more back in line now.”

When he was in office, Collison said administrative costs were $4 million, but have dropped to $2.7 million currently.

He also feels the Beaver Emergency Services Commission administration costs are too high, with “no return” on that investment. That includes fire fees, he

said, considering it is taxpayer dollars that buy the fire equipment and keep the fire departments in the county going.

“If you own that machinery why should you be charged for it then coming out to your place and using it?” he asked.

He was also unsure of the new water surface drainage bylaw allowing county employees to access land to make inspections.

The bylaw “gives the right to go on property,” said Collison, who was concerned about spreading plant diseases.

“We’ll have to see how it pans out,” he said.

Error on Tax Notices

The deadline for payment of the 2021 property taxes is as follows: 4:30 PM, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2021 (if paid in person at the County Office), or Postmarked on or before NOVEMBER 1, 2021 (if paid by mail). or Payment processing dated on or before NOVEMBER 1, 2021 (if paid online).

The County is aware of an error on the tax notices. The date for the January penalty reads “January 16, 2021” instead of “January 18, 2022”.

To avoid line-ups, please consider early remittance. Postdated cheques are being accepted. INTERAC, cheques, online, pay simply and telephone banking are encouraged. Please ensure adequate time for payment processing.

If you missed us during regular office hours, please use the mail drop box at the Beaver County Service Centre located at 5120 50 Street, Ryley, Alberta. Payments received in the drop box will be cleared from the box at 8:30 am each morning and deemed received the previous business day.

A penalty of 6% will be added to outstanding CURRENT taxes on November 2, 2021. Hours for the Beaver County Service Centre are: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (weekdays). Please call ahead (780-663-3730) if an appointment with the Assessor is required.

The error does not render the tax notices invalid. Payment is still due by November 1, 2021 to avoid a 6% late payment penalty. Unpaid taxes after November 1, 2021 are due by January 17, 2022 to avoid the second late payment penalty of an additional 3%. We apologize for this error.

Voting During COVID-19 On October 18, residents will have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right and vote for a municipal councillor, school board trustee, and senate nominee, as well as voice their opinion on the two Provincial referendum questions.

COVID-19 presents unique challenges for the election process. Beaver County takes the health and safety of the public and its election workers seriously and has implemented the following measures to prevent the spread of the virus:

Staff are diligently practicing “physical distancing” and taking other necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, and we ask that you respect the health and safety protocols we have implemented when paying your property taxes this year.

The Provincial mask mandate is in place. Election workers will be wearing masks, and we ask that you wear your mask while in the Voting Station. If you forget your mask, one will be made available to you.

Advance voting opportunities are available during the week of October 12-15 to reduce congestion at the Voting Stations. Refer to the Notice of Election for details.

You may vote by Special Ballot if you are unable to vote at the Advance Vote or on Election Day. Contact the Returning Officer at 780-663-3730 for more information.

Voting Stations will be sanitized regularly throughout the day.

The Voting Stations will be arranged to enhance physical distancing. Please be patient if you are asked to wait outside the Voting Station until others leave.

A single-use pencil will be provided to you to vote.

Tindall says that a full map of services available in each community is being put together, with all support agencies pulling together to increase collaboration. The end goal of that is a new app, called HelpSeeker, that will allow both clients and professionals find needed resources.

It’s applying the whole-health concept of a PCN to mental and social supports.

Tindall says, “I’m very excited about my new role. It can be a challenge for clients to navigate mental health supports.”

She adds, “I’ve been a strong advocate for every individual I’ve worked with. I’m grateful to be in a position to help them and get them to where they need to go.”

And thanks to her background with Canadian Mental Health, she says, “I have such extensive knowledge and contacts for the supports available. I feel like that’s the strength I’m bringing to this new role.”

Tindall says that treating mental health issues, to her, should be on par with diabetes, hearthealth, and weight managements, and that a program such as this helps remove the stigma that sometimes surrounds mental health.

“PCNs provide wholehealth care, and this program enhances what is already available and makes it more accessible

to all.”

She loves her work, saying, “It’s very rewarding to help someone navigate the system to get the support they need, or to have a client reach out and tell me I helped them.”

Tindall started in the new program on Sept. 7, and says she and the PCN have reached out to other similar programs operating in the province.

“We don’t need to reinvent the wheel, and we are hoping that our program will benefit from learning more about existing programs of this type.”

Tindall adds, “I’m hoping that as the word of this new program grows, people will become aware of it and access it as needed. The more that happens, the better it will be, and the more robust care we can offer.”

CW Sears hosts Terry Fox Run Moush John Tofield Mercury

An annual event in CW Sears, the Terry Fox Run was hosted on Friday, Sept. 24 with students taking part within their class cohorts.

“Pandemic has changed the format and the way we used to hold this event each year,” said Principal Adam Madsen. “Students have been learning about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope, and we are still accepting donations until Tuesday, Oct. 12th.”

According to Madsen, the top fundraising student in each grade will get to throw a pie at him as an extra incentive.
