100th Poppy Campaign kicks off MOUSH JOHN Editor

Every year, The Royal Canadian Legion conducts the Poppy Campaign, along with thousands of their members who volunteer across the country, and this year was no different, as Tofield Legion President, Barb Ferguson, and Secretary Bonnie Ferguson launched the 100th anniversary of the Poppy Campaign this year last Friday, Oct. 29.

“Tofield Legion started their Annual Poppy Campaign on both a high and a low note on Friday,” said Legion Secretary Bonnie Ferguson.

“The kickoff was marred by the discovery that someone had recently removed the honour plaque from the Cenotaph itself. We are shocked and dismayed that this would happen just as our campaign Continued on Page 7

Plaque Theft

Legion representatives were rudely shocked on Friday morning, Oct. 29, on discovering that someone had stolen the bronze honour plaque, which was a dedication to veterans. Among the Town of Tofield councillors reelected was also Mayor Deb Dueck, who has now been sworn in for another four years.

Dueck’s decision to run again was to contribute towards some of the causes she feels strongly about.

“I decided to run for the position of Mayor again because I feel that

I still am able to make a contribution and it is an opportunity to continue to give back to the community, which means so much to me!”

Among the most pressing issues that she currently sees are the programs that the province is proposing to offload onto the tax payers, specific the Provincial Policing that is currently being discussed at the provincial level.

“Rural Alberta’s voice has to be heard and we all need to speak up!”

According to Dueck, she would have liked to see an election, which shows to her that there is interest in how our town is run.

“I believe that an election is healthy and that people care what is

going on in the municipality. I truly hope that the sentiment is that the community members believe that council has done a good job.”

Dueck further added, “I would like to continue the work on efficiencies on the boards that I am appointed to in order to potentially reduce the

requisition amounts the town is required to collect from the taxpayer on behalf of these boards.

“I would like to see some of the projects that were identified come to fruition; currently grant applications have been submitted for funding on these projects and we’re waiting on a deci-

sion or award.”

Dueck said that the present council would like to investigate new projects as well that will provide opportunities for the residents.

Tofield RCMP Report Sgt. Lee Knelsen Tofield RCMP

The Tofield RCMP responded to 71 occurrences from Oct. 25 to 31, 2021 (inclusive). Also in-

cluded in these calls for service were 30 traffic complaints/tickets, 13 suspicious person/vehicle complaints, five wellbeing checks, three 911 complaints/false alarms,

four motor vehicle collisions and traffic enforcement provided by the K Division Traffic Unit.

On Oct. 25, Tofield RCMP responded to a suspicious person/vehi-

cle complaint in Holden.

RCMP spoke to the complainant who advised that two persons were attempting to break into their commercial property. The complainant provided a description of an older model GMC Sierra truck. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 25, Tofield RCMP responded to a theft of truck and trailer in Tofield. RCMP arrived

and complainant stated that he had left his 2006 Chevrolet truck and a modified flat-deck trailer unoccupied for a short period of time and was subsequently stolen. On Oct. 31, the truck was located in Vegreville and a lone occupant was arrested by Vegreville RCMP. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 26, Tofield RCMP responded to a commercial break and enter complaint in Ryley. RCMP attended and found that an unlocked door was accessed to the building and once inside, suspect(s) stole a number of tools. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 26, Tofield RCMP responded to a mischief complaint in Ryley. RCMP attended and found that a commercial truck had the drivers side door lock damaged and suspect(s) had accessed the vehicle and stole a number of tools from inside. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 26, Tofield RCMP responded to a commercial break and enter complaint in Beaver County. RCMP attended and found that a storage container was ac-

cessed and once inside, suspect(s) stole tools, copper and aluminum wire. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 26, Tofield RCMP responded to an assault complaint in Holden. RCMP arrived and spoke to the victim and found that a verbal family dispute had become physical. Tofield RCMP located and arrested the subject involved and transported to hospital for medical assessment.

On Oct. 26, Tofield RCMP responded to an assault complaint in Beaver County. RCMP spoke to the victim who advised that a known individual had assaulted her while parked on the side of the road. On Oct. 28, Tofield RCMP arrested and charged Dustin Matthew Lyslo (27), of Tofield, with the following: Assault; Choke, strangle or suffocate while committing the act of Assault; Drive motor vehicle while unauthorized. Dustin Matthew Lyslo was held for a judicial hearing and was released on conditions to appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on Nov. 22.

Loose Ends: Messy, Messy

Autumn is a messy season. Maybe not as messy as spring with all its mud being tracked everywhere, but the fallen leaves are so thick

on our back lawn they’ve changed the green to solid yellow.

The brown deck has gone yellow as well, and the big elm still has most of its leaves; those often remain green and don’t fall until after it snows.

Our son lives in a small condo with a small backyard, about the size of a postage stamp and half of that is covered in a concrete patio. This summer the grass barely grew – no

rain will do that – but he likes to brag that even in a rainy summer he has very little mowing to do. He does get a few leaves each fall, enough to kick them into piles that resemble anthills. Nice work if you can get it.

Hubby has been outback most of the day, raking and blowing yellow leaves into piles – ours resemble the Rockies – and bagging them for the trash bin. The fruit tree that I called

our spooky tree earlier this year because it was totally leafless when all around it the other trees were doing what trees should in spring, budding out in preparation of being green. Then suddenly old spooky got with the program and leafed out so fast and furious that the branches sagged under the weight. No blossoms for the hungry bees but it was a marvelous sight; the birds loved it. Those leaves

are all on the ground now, making it a spooky tree once more, just in time for Halloween. If bats start hanging upside down on the branches I’m moving.

Hubby has been busy for a while, he’s older and slower but steady wins the race. No one really cares if it takes him two days or even ten, but we can’t depend on Old Man Winter to hold off that long.

Wet soggy leaves are harder to rake up, they

get sticky and, let’s be honest, they smell, sort of like a wet dog, but worse. One tends to not breathe during the bagging process, something I’ve heard can be detrimental to one’s health.

Oh, he’s inside now, tired of trying to keep up, he says. The elm’s leaves are riding the gusting wind, tumbling down like oversized snowflakes.

Messy, messy! Excuse me; I have to go hide the axe.

On Oct. 27, Tofield RCMP responded to a fraud complaint in Beaver County. RCMP spoke to the complainant who stated that they were talking to someone on the phone who represented themselves as an employee for Telus and promised that they could drop their phone bill significantly if they provided a credit card and copy of their drivers license. The complainant called the RCMP to advise of this suspicious call and was directed to report the incident online with the Canadian Anti Fraud Center at www.antifraudcentre-centrean-

tifraude.ca.This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 27, Tofield RCMP responded to an assault complaint in Ryley. RCMP spoke to the victim who stated that there was a physical altercation inside a commercial business in Ryley as a result of a patron unwilling to comply with Provincial CMOH Orders regarding facemasks. Tofield RCMP located and spoke to both parties involved and warned about these behaviours and provided options to the victim to consider moving forward.

On Oct. 29, Tofield RCMP responded to a mischief complaint in Tofield. RCMP spoke to the complainant who ad-

vised that someone had damaged the town memorial Cenotaph and had stolen the bronze plaque attached to the memorial. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 30, Tofield RCMP responded to a commercial break and enter complaint in Ryley. RCMP attended and found that a door on the side of the building was damaged and once inside, suspect(s) stole a number of tools and equipment. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 30, Tofield RCMP responded to a fraud complaint in Beaver County. RCMP spoke to the complainant who advised that they were called by

an unknown person who represented themselves as a lawyer and asked that the complainant send personal items in the mail to obtain a promise of $2.5 million-dollar payout.

The complainant did not provide any personal information and was directed to report the incident online with the Canadian Anti Fraud Center and advised to not accept any packages that may come in the mail. This file is still under investigation.

On Oct. 31, Tofield RCMP responded to an assault complaint in Tofield. RCMP spoke to the complainant who advised that a known individual had as-

A Strong Message to Ottawa MLA JACKIE LOVELY Camrose Constituency

We kicked off the fall session of the legislature on Oct. 25 and our government is hard at work as we have already tabled several bills. However, in this week’s column, I would like to address a question my office has been receiving since the referendum votes. Now what? It’s a great question.

Voters in our province have given a clear and strong mandate to the Alberta Government; they want a Fair Deal in the federation. Over a million voters cast a ballot and nearly 62 per cent want to see the current equalization formula disappear. Over the last 25 years, Albertans have contributed more than $400 billion more to Canada in tax dollars than they have received in federal spending. Albertans make an immense contribution to equalization through federal tax contributions, which are transferred

by the federal government to other provinces for programs and services.

The current program has many issues, including a formula that requires it to grow automatically with Canada’s economy, even if contributing provinces like Alberta are experiencing immense economic challenges.

We are generous people in Alberta who want to help our neighbours.

When there are wildfires in other provinces, we are happy to send our firefighters to help, for example. However, what is not fair is Quebec receiving net equalization payments while that province balances its budget, while Alberta had to deal with an economic downturn.

What is also frustrating is Quebec standing in the way of the Energy East Pipeline that would deliver ethical and secure energy to that province.

take our money with one hand and stand in the way of our economy with the other.

Between 2014 and 2019 alone, Albertans made a net contribution of more than $100 billion to the federal government through federal taxes that helped build critical infrastructure.

Premier Jason Kenney put forward a government motion to ratify the results and Ottawa has an obligation to negotiate with our government.

Albertans are united around Premier Kenney and the UCP gov-

ernment to get the fairness we deserve and expect. For a change in the constitution, seven provinces with 50 per cent of the population must agree to any new terms. In a recent press conference, Premier Kenney told us Saskatchewan would back Alberta. There is lots work to do but this government was elected to fight for Albertans, and we will continue to do that.

We also asked Albertans if they want to permanently keep daylight savings time and do away with the

bi-annual clock change. This referendum was very close as 50.2 per cent of voters decided to keep the system currently in place. In case you missed the news conference, Service Alberta Minister, Nate Glubish stated that the people have made their decision, and the government will not pursue this any further. When our government was elected in 2019, a major commitment was to put more decisions in the hands of the people, and we have done that.

On Oct. 27, Associate Minister of Rural Economic Development Nate Horner held the first of 20 online meetings with rural businesses across various sectors, including business associations, chambers of commerce, Indigenous and Métisowned businesses, and industry and community leaders, to hear their ideas on how to ensure Albertans from every corner of the province benefit from Alberta’s Recovery Plan. The survey will be open until Dec. 18.

Obituary Dorothy Kathleen McClellan (née Thomson) June 14, 1935 - October 16, 2021 Kathy McClellan, 86, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021, at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, supported by caring staff and family.

She is survived by daughters Sandra (Kirby O’Connor), Audrey (Chris Gainor), and Karen (Greg Sheldon) and granddaughter Lyra Sheldon. She is also survived by her brother David Thomson, niece Denise Thomson (Rick Bobier), grandniece Solomia Bobier, nephews Phil Thomson, Andrew Thomson, and Jeremy Thomson, and many dear Mosby, Moore, Blake, and Ferguson cousins.

Kathy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman, her parents, William John Thomson and Dorothy Phyllis Baptist Thomson, and her brother Donald Thomson.

Born June 14, 1935, Kathy grew up on a farm near Tofield, Alberta, the oldest of three children. She moved to Edmonton to study pharmacy at the University of Alberta, graduating in 1957. While at university, Kathy made lifelong friends in the pharmacy department, Pembina Hall residence, and the University Mixed Chorus.

In the mid-1950s, Kathy began working at Jarvis Drugs in Beaverlodge, where she met and married Norman McClellan.

They moved in 1966 to Grande Prairie, where the girls grew up, and in 1987 to Edmonton, with their dear cat, Marcato.

Kathy made close friends everywhere she lived. She will be fondly remembered for her many interests, deep spirituality, care and concern for others, love of music, great enjoyment of company, and loving dedication to friends and family.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Misericordia (8 East and 7 East) and Glenrose (4C) hospitals and the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre (4AB) for their attentive care, kindness, and support.

Cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate Kathy’s life will take place in the new year. If you would like to be notified when this is scheduled, please email dkmcc@shaw.ca.

Obituary Florence Nellie Malcolm Oct. 6, 1931 - Oct. 27, 2021 Florence Nellie Malcolm of Tofield, AB was born to Fred and Alice Haggerty on the family homestead outside of Clover Trail, AB on October 6, 1931; she passed away October 27, 2021 at the age of 90 years.

She was a woman of high integrity and religious faith which sustained her throughout her life. She was known by extended family members as the one who kept track of family events, births and deaths. Family appreciated her efforts in keeping everyone updated on current happenings.

Florence is survived by one son Elton (Debbie); four daughters Elaine (Noel), Twyla (Patrick), Brenna (Gordon), and Adele (Michael); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters Hazel and Lois (Duane).

A private family memorial service will be held. A recording of the service will be available following the service. Interment will take place at the Tofield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made directly to the Liver Foundation of Canada.

Newly re-elected Town of Tofield Councillor Harold Conquest is ready for another term and said that the council had their work cut out.

“We have all experienced an economic slowdown followed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the changes that

Tofield might have seen.

With signs of the pandemic becoming controllable and a need to restart the national and provincial economies, this is a great time to be on the local council to aid in the expansion of the local economy and lifestyle.”

Conquest added that everyone within the council and beyond work well together, with a unified front for the

same causes, the good of the town.

“Tofield is fortunate to have a council, administration, and staff that work well together,” he said. “Everyone on council respects the opinion of others and there are no hidden or personal agendas. Every person is there for the good of the town, from the council through the administration to the newest hire!”

According to Conquest, over the next four years they will be faced with immediate and long-term objectives.

“The immediate one is the replacement of the arena floor in conjunction with the Agriculture Society and the County of Beaver.,” he added. “Long-term objectives include filling the vacant buildings and lots in the business district and beginning

to plan for the eventual replacement of the Community Hall.

“Expansion of business provides greater opportunities for residents to earn their living locally and lessens the need to spend outside the area.”

For Conquest, it’s imperative for the council that the money stays within the community.

“We’d like to keep our money here, and we’d like to increase the oppor-

tunities for outsiders to spend their money here by increasing tourism in various ways.”

and activities of council and the Town will be a priority,” she noted.

“Among other business, we will focus to maintain services and infrastructure for the municipality; continue to try to attract more business to the area; continue to work on regional partnerships with our neighbours in Beaver County and other municipalities; encourage residents to be involved in volunteering and participating in our community – be it at events, in recreational groups and activities, on committees or other volunteer opportunities, for the betterment of the whole area; and ongoing support of administration and staff.”

Dueck added that although it was not the preference, council has been able to meet via Zoom to conduct business during the pandemic, as well as all the committee and boards that council is appointed to.

“Community events have been scaled down or different opportunities have been provided for some events through this time,” she explained.

“Currently we are meeting in person for council meetings, while following AHS guidelines, which will continue unless there is a change down the line. I do hope that in the coming months the pandemic

will be under control and we can all get back to some sort of normal, whatever that maybe! It may be a different new normal for all of us, but sadly we can’t predict the future.”

According to Dueck, the Town of Tofield is very fortunate, in that they have a council that can have healthy, respectful discussions/debates on any topics or items for decision brought before them.

“Council is also very fortunate that administration provides us with all the information required to make informed decisions,” she stated. “Council have several orientation and planning meetings scheduled in this first month of the term, and we are already back to work doing what we have been elected to do.

“There are many opportunities for events and activities, which we hope can mostly resume in some capacity in the coming year and going forward.”

Dueck said that there are several big projects that have been completed in the past four years and specifically this year, which was great to see considering we are in a pandemic.

“I look forward to seeing continued growth in Tofield – residential and business developments.”

Smook named Reeve, Hrabec Deputy Reeve of Beaver County Patricia Harcourt Beaver County has a new reeve with the election of Kevin Smook, who represents Division 1, in a split vote at an Oct. 27 organizational meeting of the new council.

The vote was between Smook and Division 3 Councillor Gene Hrabec. Smook’s nomination was made by Division 4 Councillor Barry Bruce, and Hrabec was nominated for the position by Division 5 Councillor Dale Pederson.

The 3-2 vote fell in favour of Smook, with newly elected councillor Lionel Williams (Division 2) providing the fifth and deciding vote, which was by secret ballot.

Prior to the vote both candidates had a chance to speak.

“This is a clean slate,” said Hrabec, referring to the corporate review that had taken place just prior to the municipal election earlier in October.

Hrabec called the review “a good snapshot…for any successful business.”

Hrabec added that he had heard “loud and clear” from his supporters and other constituents on issues such as being more fiscally responsible in hiring practices. He promised to strive to make things better. He thanked Smook for changing his mind on adding two more road graders to the roster, and said he approved of council’s moving the gravel program to internal county staff.

He also looked forward to moving forward on a commitment for citizen engagement on issues such as roads and fire services, which he said must be clear, fair, and equitable in communicating better to the public regarding the regional fire commission.

“But there are good things, too,” he said.

Smook then spoke, stating, “I look forward to working for this council and doing some great things.” He noted that in a previous administration from 2013 - 2017, he was the reeve of the county and will bring his experience with him to the new posting.

He added that, in the next four years, “It will be important to take a look at the strategic plan.”

Smook said he wished to revisit the “Home Grown” document forged during the previous council when he served as reeve the first time.

“I think it’s important to develop a plan and stick to the plan as best we can,” he said, and to “be fair” to administration to allow them time to roll it out; also, to “be nimble” so changes can be

made in a timely manner.

Hrabec went into the position of Deputy Reeve by acclamation after being nominated by Pederson.

And Pederson won 5-0 to take the Acting Reeve position, after Hrabec nominated him. New councillor Williams was nominated by Bruce but Williams declined. The vote proceeded as per procedure but everyone voted for Pederson.

“Right now I’m drinking through the fire hose, with a big long learning curve,” said Williams as his explanation for declining the offer.

Following the voting, the councillors introduced themselves to each other.

Pederson said this was his second term as a councillor, “and I’m still on the learning curve.”

He noted that Division 5 “is the biggest area,” in the county and holds gravel, natural gas, regional grain terminals and a county campground.

“I look forward to working with everyone,” he said.

Bruce congratulated all the councillors for their election, adding there are “a lot of things fresh on the mind,” following the campaign. Running as an incumbent (his second term) is “totally different in approach” from the campaign he ran trying to get on council four years ago.

“I told everyone, ‘I will do a great job for you,’” he said. “This time I got asked why I did things.”

And issues “boiled to the surface” including roads and the regional fire service.

“We have a lot of roads that are still in very poor

condition,” he said. The drought this summer allowed roads to dry out enough to rehabilitate some spots, but still “farmers have a lot of trouble getting down the roads” with their machinery.

Bruce said he also heard cost and operating concerns about the Beaver Emergency Services Commission (BESC). Bruce agreed with Hrabec who called for more public participation.

“I look forward to having a meeting in Bruce and hearing what the concerns are in Division 4,” he said, while recommending councillors in the other division do the same.

Hrabec said he got the chance to talk to people in his Division 3 during the election, and was “disappointed” that council didn’t do more with the county’s communication policy.

The county needs to get things “front and centre,” he said, such as the need for road building.

“We haven’t built one for ratepayers for a few years,” he said, adding the county sold its road building equipment when the policy changed to contracting the work out.

But “the first order of business,” said Hrabec, was “to get a new CAO, hopefully within the next six months.”

Hrabec also stated that the corporate review shows the county’s strengths and weaknesses, and he wanted to see the recommendations from that review acted on, including a new strategic plan.

Williams thanked council and administration “for being so welcoming…I know I have a lot to learn,” he said, noting he “comes out of private business.

“I’ve gone through a corporate governance review and agree with Gene,” he said. “This document lays out the entire anatomy of how the county should be run.”

Williams said this would be his focus in order to move in a positive manner as a council.

Smook agreed the document needed to be worked on, noting it was adopted at the previous council “irregardless of the vote on that,” referring to the fact it was not unanimous.

He said the corporate review had “lots of positives out of it,” and should be acted on. Smook also noted that this was his third consecutive term as a county councillor and/or reeve.

Welcoming the new councillor Williams, and the other members of council who were returning, Smook said: “I look forward to working with you over the next four years.”

Council renews code of conduct regulations Patricia Harcourt Beaver County agreed to keep the Code of Conduct Policy in place, even though the requirement for such a policy has been removed from the Municipal Government Act. Each councillor reaffirmed out loud to adhere to the code’s policy then signed their name. The name signing was an addition suggested by Interim CAO Margaret Jones.

Council was wading through various procedures at the Oct. 27 organizational meeting after being sworn-in to office as councillors. And some changes were considered and made as well.

Council meetings will go back to the traditional start time of 9:30 a.m. That was the usual time for years until it was changed to 8:30 in the last council.

Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3) wanted to keep the meeting earlier, calling it a “farmer decision.”

Reeve Kevin Smook favoured administration’s recommendation of 9:30 which gave staff time to get ready for the meeting from 8:15 to 9:30. To

accommodate the earlier time, staff came in earlier as well, resulting in overtime.

Smook said he checked with other municipalities and most started at 9:30 or 10 a.m., sometimes 9 a.m. but no earlier.

A motion by Hrabec to compromise and run the meeting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. was defeated.

Division 4 Councillor Barry Bruce said that soon he would be travelling to the meetings in darkness increasing the danger of hitting wildlife. “9:30 would be great over the winter months,” he said, but agreed with Hrabec that the times could be changed over harvest time.

Dale Pederson (Division 5) favoured 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. which consisted of three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon.

But new councillor Lionel Williams (Division 2) went with the recommendation of 9:30 to 4 p.m. “I would like to give administration a little more time for staff to prepare,” he said.

The new council is also considering going back to having one committee of the whole meeting on the first Wednesday of the month, followed by a regular council meeting two weeks later.

The previous council had changed this to having two regular council meetings per month. A main reason was that some action on emerging issues was delayed because councillors could discuss parameters at CoW meetings but could not pass motions.

Different scenarios were discussed on how that could be accommodated.

Council did decide to keep council meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month starting at 9:30 a.m.

Council discussed strategic planning, which Interim CAO Margaret Jones called “very important” for council and

the CAO to spearhead the planning for a four-year term. Jones noted the need to up the ante on strategic planning was one of the recommendations of the corporate review.

But Pederson and Hrabec both wanted to concentrate on the corporate review before getting into the planning and budget aspects.

“I think council looks at this review as a way to go,” said Pederson. “I would rather concentrate on the review and take this (other recommendations for planning) in later if council thinks it’s necessary.”

Hrabec agreed the corporate review would offer “a good snapshot of where we’re at first,” and council needs to look at the issues of securing an interim CAO, hiring a headhunter company re: the hiring of a new CAO, and the review’s emphasis on the need for a strategic plan.

“There definitely is a need to do more of a strategic plan,” he said, “or a business plan.” Hrabec added that “there’s no need to put the cart before the horse.

We have a corporate review to go

through (with) the end goal to hire a new CAO and see their strategies.”

Smook said: “I see value in having the strategic plan explained and reviewed, especially to the new councillor.” Plus he wanted to discuss if there was any value in continuing with the priority based budgeting introduced to council last year.

Administration had recommended that council establish a budget meeting schedule and commit to a review/update of the strategic plan with Kelly Rudyk and development of key performance measures with Gord McIntosh.

Smook agreed. “I see value in having Kelly there…To gain better understanding I would like to see (him) here to explain strategic planning and priority based budgeting,” and get financial advice from McIntosh.

“A discussion is needed to get a game plan for the next year at least,” said Smook, and all the councillors have ideas based on discussions with taxpayers during the campaign.

But Williams said the strategic plan-

ning is part of the corporate review, which “is going to take some time…The review can’t hurt.”

Bruce’s motion to commit to a review/update of the strategic plan with Rudyk and McIntosh was passed 3-2 with Williams, Bruce, and Smook in favour, and Pederson and Hrabec opposed.

Hrabec asked for a recorded vote stating he “wants to go through the corporate review first,” before tackling the strategic plan and PBB. After the vote, however, Williams suggested “holding off until we have some corporate review done, then have more information for the strategic plan,” possibly in December.

Smook replied that the budget process starts in December, “so we need a meeting sooner rather than later.”

But he agreed with a suggestion from Jones that Rudyk could attend council in December or January, and McIntosh attend in February.

Hrabec suggested getting an RFD for other such consultants in future, noting: “There are people that do that.”

Beaver County’s Eva Cross has a goal for her Sherwood Park Fury AA U18 female hockey team.

Tofield U9 dropped a 9-8 pre-season game at Bon Accord on Saturday. No statistics were posted at deadline.

Tofield-2 U9 were scheduled to play New Sarepta at Tofield Arena on Sunday at Tofield Arena. No score was posted at deadline.

Tofield U11 recorded a 7-6 win over Thorsby on Saturday at Warburg Arena, but the pre-season game sheet had not been entered by Monday deadline.

Tofield-2 U13 dropped a 16-0 game at home on Saturday against Battle River.

Tofield-1 U13 lost a 90 game at Wetaskiwin on Saturday, then dropped a close 5-4 decision at Bon Accord Arena on Sunday.

Against CNN, Tofield came from behind to tie the game three times before a heartbreaking goal just five seconds after Tofield tied the game at 4-4 late in the third period. Getting Tofield goals were; Baylee Roberts, Everett Zilkie, Lane Dehid and Mason Jeffrey. Bentley Carson picked up two assists.

Tofield U15 lost a 5-3 game in Drayton Valley on Saturday, then scored late to tie Smoky Lake 22 at home on Sunday.

Noah Peterson scored twice for Tofield on Saturday, with Amy Lynn Fraser adding another.

Carter Olson, Ryan Conrad and Brandon Warawa picked up assists. On Sunday, Ryan Conrad scored with 5:22

remaining to tie the game against SL. Koston McNabb also scored for Tofield. Ayden Bremner and Scott Jardine picked up assists.
