Dawn Arnold and her team is already thinking ahead post re-opening, when people might not have recourse to emergency funds or deferments anymore.

“When the time comes, we are willing to add more shifts on a temporary basis, to deal with the increase in need,” Arnold said. “We have four volunteers ready to deliver hampers when needed, and we have a cadre of volunteers ready to shop for what we may need at a moment’s notice.”

three more raised garden beds for a total of five.

Piekema, Kay Procter, and Brenda Friedenberg along with several other volunteers have been organizing the beds and planting vegetables for clients and the community to access.

“At this time, we do not have a plan in place to provide a Breakfast Program from the Food Bank,” Arnold added.

“We did offer to have a volunteer to hand out granola bars at specific times during homework pickup days at the schools, but we were told that wasn’t necessary. We are open to suggestions, but please keep in mind that we do not have a regular kitchen, nor do we have the manpower to add five more shifts on to our volunteers!”

According to Arnold, the Food Bank has re-

ceived wonderful support with regards to financial and food donations since the March announcement of the Covid-19 crisis.

“Our shelves are full, just waiting for the increase in need in our service area, which is east of Holden to the west border of Beaver County, and from Highway 16 to the south border of the County,” Arnold explained. “We also include Round Hill as they support us both with food drives and financially.”

Arnold said that they have made sure that clients whom they have not seen for a few months, are doing okay, through personal phone calls to them.

“Some have said they felt they were okay, some didn’t want to bother us because they thought we would be overrun right

now, and still others have made other food security arrangements. So far, our regular clients are taken care of.

“We are concerned though, that there are people in our service area that are in need of food, but for whatever reason, are not accessing the Food Bank. We want everyone to know that we are delivering hampers during this time to make it easier for those who have issues such as self-isolation, no transportation, or even a reluctance to come to our building.”

Arnold stated that at this time, because of the CERB funding, or people going to live with other family on a temporary basis, and many other factors, they aren’t reaching out, which means their need has been stable.

Celebrating Grad Class of 2020 Moush John Tofield Mercury

Before the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way we lived, the Tofield School grad class was organizing and getting ready for the singlemost important event they had worked so hard for – their graduation.

However, the past few weeks the Tofield School staff led by Melissa Korpan have been at their creative best coming up with a grad parade for the Class of 2020 this past Friday, May 8.

Tofield looked different with groups of people, both families and friends, along with community members, some with banners and posters cheering the grads on while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

“It was such a great parade! I loved seeing how

many people came to watch and cheer on our grads,” Korpan said, who was able to even rope in other provincial media to cover the event. “Tofield really came together for this unique grad celebration, and it warmed my heart. I couldn’t stop smiling on Friday. It was so great that the weather cooperated too.

“Even though most of the grads would have been sheltered in their vehicles, the parade wouldn’t have been as much fun with rain.”

Twenty-nine out of the 36 grads participated in the parade, with many decorating their trucks and golf carts to make the occasion even more special.

However, Korpan emphasized that the parade was held not to replace the graduation ceremony or the banquet.

“Once our provincial government lifts restrictions on large group gatherings, we will set a new date for Grad 2020 for sure!”

BRSD trustee Zsuzsanna Hemperger added, “We are proud of our graduates. We want them to know that we are thinking of them and that their accomplishment is important, even if we can’t have a ceremony in the usual way at this time.

“It was great to see so many members of the community come out to support our students.”

According to Hemperger, it was a chance for everyone to see each other, even from a distance.

“That opportunity to connect and cheer each other on means a lot,” she said. “I hope we will be able to arrange a more

formal event at some point, but I think the students and the community will remember the parade as a great celebration too!”

Tofield School Principal Janice Muench expressed her appreciation for the community.

“We are very proud of the support we received from our community,” Muench said. “The respect shown with social distancing was incredible. Our hearts were especially warmed by the presence of our seniors.

“It was an emotional day and there was a lot of trepidation with a lot of uncontrollable factors – the weather; the actions of other people; and the overall safety of our students.”

According to Muench, despite all the variables, people came through to ensure that the graduat-

ing class got to have their special day, albeit in a different way.

“We are very proud of our staff for all of their work and especially Ms. Korpan, for handling all of the details,” she added. “It was, in my opinion, a day that was

needed to lift everyone’s spirits. A huge shoutout to the Tofield Mercury, RCMP, the Town of Tofield, Tofield Fire Department, BRSD, CTV News, and the Vegreville Radio.”

Council Corner Town of Tofield stands behind grads missing out on their proudest moment Friends, throughout the pandemic we have all found ourselves within, we have discussed the necessity for focusing on the positive, sourcing “the light” and essentially aspects within everyday life to bring hope, peace and clarity.

The world as we have recently become accustomed to has been anything but easy, and as I have mentioned has affected each of us differently.

One such way I believe “the light” can be focused on is within our own community. We are amongst the largest source of hope, light and positive focus upon our future.

This focus to the future lies within the hands of our 2020 graduating class. These young people have a bright future ahead of them and possess the

ability to be and do whatever they set their minds to. These young people hold the keys to the opportunity to change the world before us.

One of, or many of, these young people may have the solutions we need now and may need in the days and years ahead of us. It would be very easy to focus on what has been taken from us, or what we have been deprived of.

No one would know this better than our graduating class.

What very likely was the proudest moment of their young lives has been derailed for the time being. Let’s build

these youth up, and know they are integral to the community and each of our success. Please know, collectively we are proud of you and feel for each one of you in what must be a very difficult time. Please take this time to appreciate your accomplishments and know the community of Tofield stands behind you.

Lastly, we as a Province are preparing for the relaunch of the economy, business and a return to a semblance of normalcy. I must caution a slow and methodical approach. This is not the time for complacency.

Clean Harbors broken into

Cpl. Sheryl Cody Tofield RCMP

Last week, the Tofield RCMP were dispatched to 31 calls for service.

During the early morning hours of May 4, an unknown individual broke into the Clean Harbors yard in Ryley. Surveillance shows one person on the site but it appears nothing was taken at this time. There was minor damage to the

gate to gain entrance to the yard.

Tofield RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a missing child the morning of May 6.

The last time the child had been seen was at 7 a.m. when he was leaving with a suitcase after having an argument the night before about school work. The child was eventually found by a family member and brought back home unharmed.

Members received a complaint of a fraudulent use of a credit card on the afternoon of May 6. The company involved had found several fraudulent transactions made by a former employee. This file is currently under in-

vestigation.

Tofield RCMP were dispatched to a vehicle fire on an abandoned lot in Holden on 51 Ave. and Hwy. 855 on the morning of May 7. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Fort McMurray the night before. While in Holden, there was a break-andenter close to where the vehicle fire was. There was also a theft of another truck. This truck was found in the Mundare area, also burnt.

This investigation is ongoing.

ROADSIDE BRUSH & WEED CONTROL PROGRAM Camrose County will be spraying along County Roadsides for the control of brush and weeds commencing June 1st.

Spraying will not be done in front of building sites. The brush control program will be undertaken for safety, ease of snow removal and site line improvement.

Persons must complete an “Agreement for the Restricted Use of Herbicides for Brush &weed control in Sensitive Areas” and must post Camrose County “DO NOT SPRAY AREA” signs prior to May 29th, 2020.

Loose Ends: A Mother’s Lament

I miss my kids. We talk on the phone and text back and forth but that isn’t the same as eyes on.

I miss my hugs. They are

grown men but their dad and I still get hello and goodbye hugs when they visit. Both are so tall that I can just rest my head on their chests and hope they don’t take the opportunity to smother mother.

I miss their wacky senses of humour; they always make me laugh.

That doesn’t come through as well over the phone lines or via smart phone. I need to see those dimples and that gleeful

twinkle in their eyes. Sigh!

I miss the way they roll their eyes when I say something stupid, which is almost never, naturally, but that doesn’t stop them. I can almost hear them thinking, thank heaven no one’s around to hear this. Parents can be sooo embarrassing!

I miss hearing them call their dad Pop, just like he did their grandfather and me Ma. I don’t know why. Maybe because it goes with Pop or maybe

because I remind them of someone they saw in a movie or on TV, like Beverly Hillbillies or Lil Abner. I’d prefer the former rather than the latter.

I even miss those times when I’m greeted with Hey, Lady. I’ve never complained, lest they decide to change it. Better than Yo, Woman or something else from Fonzie in Happy Days.

I miss their physical presence in my life. I changed their diapers,

wiped their spit up off their chins and my clothes and their vomit off the floors and their bedding. I cleaned their ears and scraped knees and the stinky jam from between their toes. I washed their smelly socks and underwear and held their hands when they were sticky with what I hoped was only peanut butter and honey.

I hugged them tight when they were fresh out of the bath because in 5

Members were called to an abandoned flat deck trailer in the area of Rge. Rd. 175 and Twp. 484 on May 8. It was determined that the trailer was stolen out of the Stettler area a week prior. The registered owner and Stettler RCMP were notified of the recovery.

RCMP Reminds Albertans to Respect Public Health Orders and Traffic Laws During Canada Road Safety Week and May Long Weekend The Victoria Day long weekend typically marks the start of road trip season for many Albertans.

Due to the ongoing pan-

demic, this year is different than all others.

The week of May 12-18 is Canada Road Safety Week, a seven-day national campaign led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), aimed at making our roads the safest in the world.

Although there is significantly less traffic on Alberta’s roads due to restrictions related to COVID-19, impaired driving, distracted driving and speeding remain a problem across the province. The RCMP will focus this year’s campaign, “Shifting Gears”, on shifting driver behaviour surrounding drug and alcohol impairment, driver distractions and speeding.

“As our province begins to consider reopen-

ing, some drivers over the May long weekend may be tempted to relax their attitudes around driving rules, physical distancing and public health orders; there is zero tolerance for unsafe driving behaviours amidst the pandemic,”

said Superintendent Gary Graham, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “As always, our Traffic Services members will be on the road promoting safe driving spaces and enforcing laws to help all motorists stay safe while travelling.

More than at any other time in Canadian history, Liberals and Conservatives are split by a enormous chasm. The cause of this division is that when one says black, the other immediately says white. There’s no grey in politics, yet there is among followers.

Why? Because politicians are trying to split us into tribes.

Tribe mentality is normal among humans, so it isn’t really that difficult to do. The problem is, when it comes to politics, who among us believes in every single thing their tribe does? Who believes all tribal policies?

Certainly not me.

Is it possible to be left of centre and believe in unborn rights? Or are you able to be in favour

of a woman’s right to abortion despite being a Conservative?

Can you be a Conservative and yet be against the death penalty, or for it despite leaning left?

Is it possible to be a Liberal and be proCanadian-oil industry? Can you be right of centre and be concerned about the environment?

Can a Conservative be in favour of physician-assisted suicide?

Can a Liberal believe it is immoral for a human to assist in the death of a terminally ill person?

Can a person right of centre believe in gun control? Can a Liberal be a hunter, or a member of a competitive gun club?

Is it possible for a Liberal to be opposed to illegal immigration, or could a Conservative take compassion towards desperate immigrants?

Can a person right of centre also be an atheist? Can a Liberal person be religious?

It’s good to be a loyal member of a tribe, but regardless if that tribe is left or right of centre, the tribe should still be called Team Canada.

Letter to the Editor National Safety Week Alberta Party to focus on rebuilding the province

Dear Editor, The Alberta Party has just released our Rebuilding Alberta strategy with the aim of setting the focus to get Alberta back on track.

Phase One is a plan to get people back to work. It focuses on immediately providing capital to businesses so they can hire back employees quickly, provide funds for geothermal to help oil workers and service companies and spur investment by providing start-up and investor tax credits.

Phase Two is about empowering communities, focusing on enabling municipalities to build the infrastructure they need for future growth and getting people back to work. The Alberta Party understands that municipalities know what they need much better than the provincial government does. The Alberta Party promotes the use of municipal bonds allowing community members to fund and take ownership of projects to enhance their community.

The Alberta Arts and Culture Grant will bring jobs back in the arts and culture sector in our province, providing funding to those businesses and individuals.

And Phase Three provides a framework to embrace innovation and transition the economy.

The Alberta Party would restore all post-secondary funding cut by the current government, provide $100 million to support valueadded agriculture production and create a generous diversification fund and tax credit system targeting areas such as artificial intelligence, software development and digital media creation.

According to our Acting Leader Jacquie Fenske, through extensive consultation with stakeholders and our Shadow Cabinet, the Alberta Party has developed a plan to restart, rebuild, and reimagine Alberta’s economy.

As the COVID-19 situation begins to come under control, Alberta needs to revive our economy, get people back to work and get serious about diversification. We need a fresh approach.

School districts across Alberta are letting go of support staff as of May 1, including the Battle River School Division (BRSD) after the province reallocated education funds to COVID19.

BRSD Superintendent of Schools Rita Marler stated April 17 that layoff notices had been issued for most of the learning commons facilitators and "about two dozen education assistants at schools across our division.

“We have not made these decisions lightly and have tried to retain as many support staff as we possibly can,” Marler stated, in a newsletter to parents.

“We want to stress that these notices are temporary and we very much look forward to the day we can have members of our BRSD team together again.”

In total over 7,500 school support staff have been given their layoff notices in the province, along with 6,000 provincial substitute teachers.

BRSD earlier an-

nounced that the March reallocation of education funding by the province has resulted in the temporary layoff of 78 school bus drivers effective April 1.

Funds from education were redirected in March from school authorities to Alberta's COVID-19 needs, or about $128 million.

The funding being taken away was for transportation and other services the province says are not required during the time when classes have been cancelled and students are

learning while at home.

The province has promised to restore the funding once students return to the classroom.

Marler has a message for parents: “We are working hard to ensure that all students are getting the support they need, whether it be from Teachers or Educational Assistants or Family School Liaison Workers or in the form of other specialized services.

BRSD notified parents on Friday, April 24 that fee refunds from the Early Learning Program and transportion for those who prepaid were in the mail, and said other fee refunds will also be on the way soon.

Marler also announced Friday that summer programs have been cancelled.

“With the provincewide cancellation of activities for the summer months, we have also made the decision to cancel summer programming in BRSD.

“That means we will not be offering Summer School for high school students or Reading University for students in Grades 2 and 3. We look forward to having both of those programs back in 2021.”

Marler also encouraged families to sign up for a new initiative, a family challenge called “Move your Mood.” The deadline to register is coming up fast at April 30. The program runs eight weeks, with a new challenge each week and an opportunity for families to compete and win prizes.

County passes municipal budget, holds back on mill rate bylaw Patricia Harcourt Beaver County Council passed the 2020 municipal budget May 6, but held back on final approval of the mill rate bylaw pending some councillor concerns.

The passing of the budget was split 32, with two councillors disagreeing with the budget and the mill rate bylaw. The issues for these councillors concerned the need for more road maintenance and the other called for more austerity and cuts.

This year's budget in the amount of $25,701,413 is offset by funding sources of $12,054,309 from user fees, reserves and grants.

This leaves $13,647,104 that must be raised through taxes, pending the final passing of a mill rate bylaw at potentially council's May 20 regular meeting.

The budget takes into account that 25 per cent of taxes, or $3.4 million, worth of taxes will be uncollectable due to the downturn in the economy. To make a balanced budget, a combination of reserves and the BMS grant are being used to replace that lost revenue.

However, administration warned that "at this level, it is not sustainable in the long term," to continue that practice.

The general municipal mill rate is proposed to be unchanged over last year.

However, a new mill rate of 0.0847 must be collected for the province's new policing program. And the county also collects funds on behalf of the Beaver Emergency Services Commission (BESC), and requisitions for education (provincial tax) and seniors' housing (Beaver Foundation).

With the late provincial budget last year, the county did not levy enough to cover school taxes, explained the report to council. "The county is now required to compensate by adjusting education mill rates in 2020. This is the situation for many municipalities in Alberta."

So even though the province announced a freeze on the education mill rate for this year, the county's education mill rate has increased by 6.5 per cent for residential and farmland, and decreased 6.1 per cent for non-residential properties.

The Beaver Foundation requisition has increased by 4.1 per cent. Certain designated industrial properties earmarked

by Municipal Affairs will be levied a mill rate of 0.0760 to offset the province's costs of preparing assessments.

The result is that mill rates in the coun-

ty range from a decrease of 0.7 per get to an increase of 3.5 per cent, depending on the assessment class.

"The impact of these increases on individual property taxes will be dependent upon changes in individual assessment," states the council report.

"Although there are still some unknowns with respect to the rate of uncollectible taxes and the impact of the pandemic on municipal services, administration recommends that council approve the budget and pass the mill rate bylaw."

Council discussed a way to communicate the budget and issues related to it, such as tax deferrals, policing costs and education deferrals.

"We're not being lavish on this budget," said Division 1 Councillor Kevin Smook.

Reeve Jim Kallal (Division 2) said he wanted to write a letter to the public explaining the issues surrounding the budget as presented.

But Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3) didn't want to blame the province for everything that isn't working economically.

"I don't support saying it's always the government's fault," he said, calling that action "poking the bear."

Hrabec added: "We need to tighten our belts and take as much responsibility as everybody else," for the current situation.

Kallal agreed, but said there was "no crystal ball on COVID," and how it will affect the county's affairs.

"This county is in a good financial position," he said, after council just received a report that morning on its financial state for 2019 from MNP LLP and from administration.

"I think we can still proceed as normal," he said, and pass the budget.

Some of the county's challenges include a permanent 35 per cent shallow gas well adjustment causing a decreased linear assessment base. There has also been a continuous decline in machinery and equipment (M&E) assessment due to shut-in and abandoned wells.

And the provincial government policy has reduced assessment to zero for bankrupt oil and gas companies that have unproductive wells.

On the other hand, the new regional elevator in the east end of the county has contributed to an increase in non-residential, railway and M&E assessment.

Councillor Barry Bruce (Division 4) agreed with Hrabec that the county

needs to be fiscally responsible. But he thought taxes could be increased in the interests of maintaining infrastructure so farmers can have an adequate road system to do their farm work.

"That's not possible without roads," he said, adding: "We can't die by the death of a thousand cuts." He predicted that, if council continues to "keep nibbling away" at the budget (and) not increasing taxes," eventually infrastructure would collapse.

"I think it's within our rights to explain to the people why we are doing what we are doing," said Smook.

Reeve Kallal said council needed to move forward with an explanation. "I just don't get it..We are increasing our taxes this year and the rate is going up.

We need to move ahead here."

Kallal said some kind of message to

the ratepayer should go out along with the tax notice mail outs. Hrabec favoured a post on the county's website instead and hand out explanation sheets through the councillors.

Smook made a motion including both these suggestions of mail outs along with Chronicle and social media postings.

"I think it's very important taxpayers know what's going on," he said, and the mail out would cost very little as it will be included in the taxation notices. Plus brochures would be made available at the county office and through councillors. The motion was carried.

Council will address third and final reading on the mill rate bylaw at the next meeting May 20. Tax notices won't be issued until all three readings have been done.

Landfill incorporation business plan passed

Council still wants legal review prior to final ratification Patricia Harcourt Beaver County passed a motion to accept the business plan for the incorporation of Beaver Municipal Solutions regional landfill, in principal.

But council also wants an independent legal review of the business plan after a public hearing takes place, and before final ratification by member municipalities.

Reeve Jim Kallal (Division 2) is the county's delegate on the Municipally Controlled Corporation (MCC) Steering Committee. He reported that BMS accepted the business plan formally on April 29.

Kallal expressed the desire that council wait on voting for the business plan "until we get a legal and accounting professional opinion."

But a suggestion by Councillor Kevin Smook (Division 1) to pass the plan "as is" was accepted with the provision that the plan could be checked over after the public hearing takes place.

The hearing is set for June 17 where Smook said council could hear public opinion on the incorporation and business plan for the new entity, to be called Claystone Waste Ltd. "Nothing's locked in until it comes back to council for ratification," said Smook, and "we can get those legal opinions then." With that, Smook's motion to accept the business plan was passed unanimously.

Kallal's motion that council hold a public hearing on June 17 was then passed, with Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3) suggesting an evening hearing for people working during the day could attend.

CAO Bob Beck said county council meetings are to be streamed live on the county's You Tube channel. There are also two public hearings set for the May 20 meeting.

Hrabec then asked council to act on the need to get accountants and lawyers lined up to review the plan prior to its final ratification after the public hearing.

"I think there is merit in hearing what the public wants first," said Smook.

The Reeve's motion was carried, to authorize CAO Beck to get in touch with his contact regarding an independent legal review of the BMS business plan and other documents regarding the incorporation of the landfill. Also included would be "anything else that arises from the public hearing and council's concerns."

Another motion accepted Councillor Dale Pederson's (Division 5) suggestions for correcting several minor typographical errors in the business plan.

Hrabec agreed that "we can't present the document with spelling and grammar issues," at the hearing.

Council authorizes three quarterly payments to BESC

Argument regarding building maintenance needs not accepted Patricia Harcourt Beaver County Council passed a motion to authorize payments to the Beaver Emergency Services Commission (BESC) for the first three quarterly payments, based on the commission's 2020 budget.

But the last part of the motion stipulated that the fourth quarterly payment would "be adjusted for the 2014-2019 accumulated surplus in accordance with the Shared Services Agreement."

Council deferred making the first payment at a meeting in March based on advice from administration, "because BESC has accumulated a large surplus (on a cash basis) over the last five years."

Assistant CAO Margaret Jones told council at the May 6 meeting, that "BESC has cited its 'Surplus Capital and Budgetary Reserve Policy' as justification for the transfer of annual surpluses to reserve."

However, Jones said the SSA takes precedence over any such BESC policy. The SSA "states…that surpluses are to be returned to member municipalities."

The county's share of the surplus under the SSA formula for the years 2014 to 2018 is $412,649. Jones added that any surplus BESC may have this year, as well, "should also be distributed amongst the member municipalities."

Jones recommended paying out

the first three quarterly instalments even though the county has yet to receive BESC's 2019 financial statement.

In a letter to Reeve Jim Kallal (Division 2), BESC Chair Gene Hrabec (also Deputy Reeve for Beaver County), referred to an "excessive infrastructure deficit we currently face."

Hrabec also referred to the commission's Capital and Operating Budgetary Reserve policy, which allocates funds to buildings, equipment, communications, emergency funds and general operations.

Jones responded to the policy by stating: "BESC thinks it can authorize the distribution of funds as it deems fit but this is not in alignment with the SSA," she said.

Councillor Dale Pederson (Division 5) advocated paying the requisitions, noting BESC "has a new regional manager and he's really trying."

Hrabec agreed that BESC has "a new manager and a new team…They've really turned the ball around, we are moving ahead."

However, he said it would be "hard for anybody on the BESC board now to quantify those surpluses," from 2014 to 2017.

The new REM is working on a better capital plan, he said. "I don't think it's the time to deal with pre2018," as the previous REM is gone so getting the facts would be diffi-

cult.

"Administration sees (the issue) as pretty black and white," said Jones.

"The SSA hasn't changed. The municipalities don't have to request the surplus, (BESC) should have just given it back."

But Hrabec questioned the timing: "There has been no concern from the municipalities in those years," he said, noting other issues such as capital replacement and building upkeep haven't been addressed over that time, either.

After the municipalities agreed to form the Beaver Regional Emergency Services Commission, there was no provision made for BESC to maintain the fireballs, which the towns had looked after previously. Some of the surplus funds BESC accumulated has gone toward the upkeep and maintenance of the buildings.

"We needed to do something (about maintenance) unless the municipalities want to take the buildings back," said Hrabec, adding this practice of using surplus funds for this was historically accepted by the member municipalities in previous years.

Councillor Kevin Smook suggested a meeting of member municipalities' CAO be set up, with others in the region, and allow the funding to flow to BESC for now allowing for adjustment in the fourth quarter.

A motion by Division 4 Councillor Barry Bruce to that effect was passed.

2020 Vegetation Management Program Update

Campground Reservations

As part of Beaver County’s roadside maintenance program, the removal of trees, brush, and regulated weed species within Beaver County road allowances will be running from May through October 2020.

On May 6, 2020 Beaver County Council made the decision to open Beaver County’s campgrounds on June 1, 2020 based on recommendations established for Provincial campgrounds by the Province of Alberta and Alberta Health Services.

• Spot herbicide applications will be conducted within all divisions to control tree and brush regrowth within County road allowances.

• Mechanical roadside brush control efforts will be focused within Division 5 (Viking and Kinsella areas). The mechanical removal and clearing of trees from County road allowances is targeted at improving traffic safety and machinery movement, eliminating areas prone to the trapping of snow in the winter months and improving sightlines at intersections and yard sites.

• Roadside mowing operations will commence in late June/early July, depending on growing conditions. Roadside mowing will be conducted on all County roads west of Secondary Highway 834, and hard surfaced roads east of Secondary Highway 834.

• For information regarding weed control, brush control, and haying along provincial primary and secondary highways please contact Alberta Transportation at 310-0000.

These recommendations include 50% capacity, only one unit per site, no group camping, no out of province campers, no fires. The complete rules and regulations for the campgrounds are still being developed by the Province and will be posted as soon as they are released, which will impact County campgrounds also.

The health and safety of our residents, visitors, staff, and contractors is our top priority. These measures are in line with Provincial recommendations to practice physical distancing.

Our campground reservation system is now taking reservations for June1, 2020 onward. For those who have already made reservations at campreservations.ca, they are working on processing refunds or rebooking, if the reservation system has not contacted you, please contact them for your refund.

“We are planned and ready for this increase in need for our Food Bank services.”

Arnold said that some of the Food Bank items that are always on demand are soups, especially mushroom soup and dry soups, 1L juices, canned fruit, pancake mix and syrup, cereal, 250g margarine, fresh carrots, skim milk powder, peanut butter, cheese whiz, jam, canned meals, kraft dinner, just to mention a few.
