The case, which had left the police and investigative fraternity baffled across Canada for 44 years will finally come to an end. The victim who had been found in a septic tank on a rural farm just outside Tofield, and nicknamed ‘Septic Tank Sam’ has been identified using genetic genealogy. This case first appeared in The Tofield Mercury dated April 21, 1977 when the Tofield detachment urged public assistance in identifying his body. But with no leads the case met a cold end, up until recently. The victim’s name is expected to be released today. The septic tank was on a farm belonging to Mavis and Charlie McLeod, both of whom have passed away.
