Tofield School will be going ahead with honouring its Class of 2020 on Saturday, Aug. 15. When the province moved into Phase 2, Tofield staff and grad organizer Melissa Korpan started discussions with the grad committee and they decided upon the date after much thought and consideration. “Tofield School is proud to host an outdoor graduation ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 15,” said Korpan. “Way back at the end of May, Janice Muench and I started to discuss what the school could do in terms of a graduation ceremony. From there, we got the ball rolling, looking at how we could hold the ceremony outside.”

yes,” Korpan stated. “We also polled them to ask which weekend works best – end of June, or a weekend in August – and again, the majority chose the weekend of Aug. 15.” Korpan is “super excited” about the ceremony. “I am really happy that we are able to give our grads a ceremony, where they can all come together with a few family members to celebrate this important milestone in their lives,” she said. “I think it’s pretty neat that we are doing an outdoor ceremony like this; I’ve only heard of virtual or drive-thru grads so far.” With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, Korpan added that everyone has to do their part in obeying guidelines. “We are planning to ensure the health and safety of all attendees, and would like everyContinued on Page 11
