Lindbrook shopkeeper warned by RCMP and AHS inspector MOUSH JOHN Editor Two Tofield RCMP officers and an Alberta Health Services (AHS) inspector visited the Lindbrook store and gas station on Thursday, Jan. 7 in an attempt to enforce the Town of Tofield and provincial mask by-law. Shopkeeper Hemla wasn’t present at the time of their visit, but her sons Logan and Phillip were, along with an employee. “Both my sons as well as one of my employees were present when the policy enforcers came in on Thursday,” Hemla explained. “My sons told them that they were ‘sovereign people’ to protect their rights, and felt subjected to a power trip from the AHS inspector Dave Fong!” Hemla added that they were “paid a visit” by policy enforcers because AHS had received more than 10 complaints stating that the employees and the shop weren’t fol-
lowing the mask by-law. “At my shop it is up to everyone whether they want to wear a mask or not, and if they aren’t it is assumed that they are exempt as per Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA) and Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). “The policy enforcers are just trying to do their job and follow procedure, and my main takeaway from this is that they must still be treated with respect, dignity, and kindness for they are also people just like us, and that’s what my sons did.” Hemla further stated that the AHS Inspector Fong said: “A by-law is more of a regulation/guidance and not a law.” “He said that the bylaw is more of a guidance and not a law as per the video evidence we took in the shop; my son has said that with the knowledge of common law (the law of the people) we

should be able to stand up for our rights, freedoms, and liberties no matter if it’s from the person next door, a policy enforcer, or a corporation like Alberta Health Services,” Hemla noted. “Yes it is off-putting to have people such as AHS, alongside policy enforcers to come into our shop unexpectedly, and ambush us! We were ambushed twice this past week (they were in on Tuesday also while we weren’t there), but as long as you comprehend what common law is about, you will realize that this empowers you with the truth. “We are here to serve with no harm, no wrong, no damage, and no bias to anyone. We are for the people and feel it is everyone’s God-given right to wear or not wear a mask. I feel that all people should learn the law of the land (common law: the law of the people) if they want to stand up for their sovereign rights, freedoms, and liberties.”

Screenshots from a video captured at the time of the incident went viral. Seen here at the top is AHS inspector Dave Fong, and in the bottom frame are two Tofield RCMP officers. According to Tofield RCMP Sgt. Lee Knelsen, the RCMP are still investigating the file and working closely with AHS. “We received a few calls from concerned citi-
zens and we're working alongside AHS to ensure that the Town of Tofield mask bylaw and the Alberta Health Act is being folContinued on Page 2
