Tofield Arena was busy this weekend with a lot of home games, and on Sunday morning, Dec. 5, Tofield U7-2 took to ice against visiting team Bruderheim.

Head Coach Kalen Roth, along with coaching staff – Trisha Hart, Jeremy Saunders, and James Riddell – have been helping the players get some skills, with many being on ice for the first time.

“It’s amazing to watch the progression of their skills, especially since for a few it’s their first time stepping on ice,” Roth said. “It’s also my first time as a coach, but this opportunity has been very rewarding. We try and get practices and games in regularly, and have some tournaments booked in the new year.

Together with our coaches, parents, and our manager, Colin Hart, we hope to make this a great experience for the kids!”

Local Food Bank gets surprise donation from Wolf Midstream Moush John Tofield Mercury

Tofield/Ryley and Area Food Bank (TRAF) was delighted, according to TRAF President Dawn Arnold, to receive a donation of close to

$1,000 from Wolf Midstream – a company that maintains linear assets such as pipelines in the community.

“This is the first time we are ceiving a donation from them,” Arnold

said. “They gave us a generous amount of $983, which will be used to purchase some of the main items for the Christmas hampers, such as peanut butter, bread, canned fruit and

This past Friday, Dec. 3, MLA Jackie Lovely visited Tofield’s CW Sears School to record a book – Eloise The Dragon Hunter – with Principal Adam Madsen for the students.

“I just wanted to share some Christmas joy with the kids with everything going virtual, including the concerts!” Lovely said. “Adam and I read the book outside, and then dedicated it to the school library, so that all students would have the chance to read the book again themselves.

“The book is written by an Alberta motherand-daughter team about the writer’s daughter/granddaughter., and the message is about friendship.”

Lovely had also invited the elementary school students to create Christmas greeting cards for Christmas Card ARt Contest.

Due to the covid guidelines, we are unable to welcome community volunteers to drop-in and help with packing the Christmas Hampers this year.

Howard C. Reil

Judy Linda Magneson

Apr. 14, 1936 - Nov. 24, 2021 The family of Howard C. Reil of Ryley, AB are saddened to announce his passing on November 24, 2021 at the Tofield Hospital at the age of 85 years 7 months.

He was born in the Tofield area on April 14, 1936.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years and 10 months Inez (nee Hardy) Reil; his sons Scott (Margaret) and Colin (Linda); his daughters Kerry (Philip) Bednarski and Leanne (Darcy) Monteith; nine grandchildren Janine (Dylan) Bednarski, Amanda (Jeremy) Bednarski, Tristan (Amanda Rae) Bednarski, Justin Reil, Miranda (Andrew) Vert, Coltyn (Breanne) Monteith, Brook Monteith, Kolby Monteith, and Victoria Reil. The apples of his eyes were his 15 great-grandkids, Makayla, Jared, Arianna, Karissa, Makenna, Alana, Cee Jay, Austin, Kaylee, Ava, Parker, Sofia, Seth, and twins Egan and Inez. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Doug Hardy (Trish), and sisterin-law Sharon Mason; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Ezra and Lena Reil; and infant brother Ezra Keith.

Howard farmed the land that his great grandfather had bought when he emigrated to Canada. Howard was proud of the fact that seven generations of family worked, walked or played on this land. He was forced to quit farming because of asthma but was happy to be able to work for the County of Beaver as a grader operator; a job he loved and did well.

Health issues again forced him to retire but he still remained on the farm and he was delighted that he had time to be with the grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. Howard loved music, and bluegrass, country, and gospel music were a constant in his home. He played guitar and loved to sing and play for his friends and family. He was finally able to watch the kids play basketball, volleyball, soccer, and figure skating. He even went to Christmas concerts.

He was a mechanic, carpenter, plumber, electrician, and all around handy man. He enjoyed going for coffee with “The Coffee Group” until his cancer and covid forced him to stay home. He is now at peace and will remain in our hearts forever.

In keeping with Howards wishes a private family inurnment ceremony will take place on a later date at the Ryley Cemetery.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be sent to: Haying in the 30s, Cancer Support Society, Box 35. Mallaig AB T0A 2K0 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Judy Linda Magneson of Ryley, AB formerly of Vancouver, B.C. passed away on November 20, 2021 at the age of 54 years.

She is survived by her mother Linda Berger of Whiterock, B.C.; husband Terry Magneson; her children Raelene, Weston, Montana, Wyatt, Shaylom, and Kallie; as well as niece Audrey, and nephews Welsey and Wyatt.

She was predeceased by her father Fritz Berger; and brother Roger Berger.

A celebration of Judy's life will take place on a later date.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.

Obituary Sieko Scott Apr. 1, 1943 - Nov. 29, 2021 Sieko Scott born April 1, 1943, of Tofield, Alberta has peacefully passed away at home on November 29th, 2021, at the age of 78 years.

He is survived by his loving wife Sandra; his sons Robert (Roberta), and Ronald (Brenda); grandchildren Kiara, Jonathan, Heidi and great-grandchild Char; his brother Andy (Dianne); sister Lynda (Dave) and their families, along with other family and friends.

Sieko enjoyed his retirement years as a counsellor and being outside at the farm.

Sieko had many great accomplishments in his lifetime starting on his own as a farmhand, working for Swifts, Shell Canada in Calgary, Manties in Edmonton.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please keep the Stollery and Alberta Cancer Foundation in mind for donations.

He will be forever remembered and loved.

Cremation has been taken place, there will be a private family gathering at a later date.

Loose Ends: The First Song

It’s the first day of December so I’m expecting to hear Christmas songs on the radio today. I’m actually surprised not to have heard them al-

ready since most years they start in mid-November. Otherwise they begin right after Halloween. It’s a not-sosubtle reminder that Christmas is coming, in case we’ve forgotten. As if we could with the weeklong Black Friday sales encouraging us to get our Christmas shopping done early. Funny, I thought early meant August.

I’ve got my black fine point Sharpie ready to take note of how many times they play I Want a

Hippopotamus for Christmas. I’ve jotted a number on my calendar and if I’ve guessed correctly I get an extra helping of anything I like; I’m thinking Turtles. If I miss by more than 150 all I’ll get is a massive headache. How to make a cute song totally annoying – play it until listeners’ ears bleed and they turn on reruns of Christmas Cookie Challenge or – ugh! – one of those syrupy, poorly acted Christmas movies that

have been running since July. Help! I’m turning into Mrs. Scrooge!

Again!

Anyhow, my ears are ready for the first of what will be many festive tunes; I’m hoping it will be Jingle Bells or Frosty the Snowman.

Something light, cheery and uplifting. A toe tapper. It’s too soon for O Holy Night or Joy to the World, as lovely as they are; I prefer hearing those closer to the big day. Frosty and maybe Rudolph with his red

nose are a better opening act. I like to save the real carols for when the tree is all decorated, the tiny lights twinkling and I can sit in the dark and sing along. No one’s listening so it doesn’t matter if I’m offkey.

I should probably thank the people who bring us the cookie challenge and other shows like it. I’m trying to cut down on my sugar consumption – including overdosing on sugarplums but Turtles are

exempt– so sitting through five or ten minutes of those shows makes my teeth ache and that’s all I need to swear off anything sugar laden from now until January 2nd. No promises after that.

Wait a minute, the first Christmas song just came on. A rousing tune, something about mistletoe and “you under the tree.” Not cheery or uplifting, just loud. Ouch! Where’s that hippopotamus when you need it?

Tofield RCMP Report Sgt. Lee Knelsen Tofield RCMP

The Tofield RCMP responded to 35 occurrences from Nov. 29 to Dec. 5, 2021 (inclusive).

Also included in these calls for service were ten traffic complaints/tickets, five suspicious person/vehicle complaints, five well-being checks, one 911 complaint/false alarm, four motor vehicle collisions, and traffic enforcement provided by the K Division Traffic Unit.

On Nov. 30, the Tofield RCMP responded to an uttering threats complaint in Beaver County.

Tofield RCMP spoke to the complainant who advised that they had heard a known individual make detailed threats to a number of persons in the community, including a police officer. On December 2, 2021, Tofield RCMP arrested and charged Ter-

rence Timothy Johnston (66), of Beaver County with the following: Uttering threats x 2, and Criminal harassment.

Terrence Timothy Johnston was held before a judicial hearing and was released on conditions to appear in Veg-

reville Provincial Court on Dec. 13.

On Nov. 30, Tofield RCMP responded to a domestic disturbance in Beaver County. RCMP attended and spoke to the parties involved and found that a verbal argument had possibly

turned physical. This file is still under investigation.

On Nov. 30, Tofield RCMP responded to a mischief complaint in Tofield. RCMP spoke to the complainant who advised that their business had an egg thrown at it.

This file is still under investigation.

On Dec. 1, Tofield RCMP responded to a vehicle hit and run in Tofield. Tofield RCMP attended the scene and the complainant advised that a vehicle failed to maintain their lane and

in the process had struck the victims vehicle, causing significant damage.

The suspect vehicle subsequently fled the scene.

The State of the Country MP DAMIEN KUREK Battle River-Crowfoot

Since the beginning of the pandemic, inflation has risen to multi-decade highs.

This is an overwhelming issue for Canadians from coast to coast. Rampant government spending, lack of consistent and reliable supply chains, disastrous monetary policy decisions, and a plethora of international blunders by the Liberal Government has our economy falling behind.

The cost of groceries is especially damaging to Canadians. Inflation has grown to 4.7 per cent, well beyond the two percent target set by the Bank of Canada. Even more concerning is Scotiabank, and others major banks, expect high inflation to continue into late 2022 or through 2023.

Inflation simply means that the same amount of money buys less. The tragic irony of this is that those who can afford appreciable assets will benefit, while anyone

on a fixed income or lower-income Canadians will be impacted the most.

Conservatives have been ringing the alarm bell on the Liberals’ spending for years, and now we are seeing the ramifications of their policy decisions that were made without consideration of the consequences. Monetary and fiscal mismanagement decisions have contributed to these upward inflationary pressures that are hurting Canadians and are leaving future generations with a huge bill with little to show for it.

Other issues that Justin Trudeau and his Liberals have failed to address are extensive labour shortages across the nation, and to advocate for major resource projects, and softwood lumber has resulted in ballooning costs to businesses who are then forced to pass the costs onto everyday Canadians.

These issues are in addition to the challenges posed by the massive drought this summer in Western Canada and the floods currently inundating British Columbia. Not to mention our troubled relationship with our allies and other states like the People’s Republic of China. The lack of a plan to deal with critical issues and the diplomatic blunders by the Trudeau Liberals have left Canadians in the lurch and with a higher cost of living.

Failed relationships leave our industries

and businesses that provide critical goods and services handcuffed. When President Joe Biden axed Keystone XL and increased tariffs on softwood lumber, Justin Trudeau was missing in action. Resources such as forestry, agriculture, and energy are staples to Canadian economic success. Energy alone contributed $17.9 billion in Government revenue in 2018. The lack of access to critical markets and cooperation with our allies has Canada falling behind our peers; businesses are unable to

sustain growth and unable to combat the rising costs of operations.

The bottom line is this: The Liberal Government was taking chance after chance with your money before the pandemic and they are now trying to justify their economic recklessness by saying they are helping Canadians. At the end of the day though, it is Canadians who pay the price for Liberal incompetence.

It is an honour to serve as the Member of Parliament for Battle River-Crowfoot.

The Conservative Party has always been the party of fiscal responsibility and good governance, and we will continue to advocate for these issues as we move through this Parliament.

Tofield Winterfest fireworks a showstopper Moush John

Tofield’s Dan Hillyer pulled out all stops once again this year to give the community one of the highlights of the annual Winterfest, which was held after a year’s hiatus on Saturday, Nov. 27, with the fireworks at 7 p.m. capping off the event.

Started in 2017 with a modest budget, according to Hillyer, it has really grown with community support and sponsorship.

“This year we featured a waterfall effect,” he added. “It is a string of fireworks suspended between two supports about 20 ft in the air, creating a

beautiful cascade effect.

“I know a lot of folks watch from home but they miss out on a lot of the ground effects like this; if you ask me it’s worth making the trip to the ball diamond!”

Hillyer explained that what started on Canada Day four years back celebrating the nation’s 150th birthday has eveolved over the years, and this was the fourth year of the display.

“I started small with consumer-grade fireworks, like the ones you can buy at the gas station because professional grade fireworks require a license,” he said. “The town has given a modest budget every year to purchase reusable equipment,

like the tubes you put the fireworks into etc., but it was only when I started asking for sponsors from the community to add to the fireworks’ budget tha things began to shift.

“We’ve hd a generous response from the community, which has been the most important factor for growing and improving the show.”

Hillyer noted that the choreography takes a lot of time and effort to put together.

“This is actually the show we had planned for last year that got cancelled a few days before the Winterfest due to Covid-19 restrictions; we did not get the final go ahead for this show until a couple weeks ago this

County decides not to hold back crossing fees Patricia Harcourt Councillors decided not to proceed with a suggestion to withhold maintenance payments on CN crossings until the whistle cessation requests by Beaver County have been completed.

Council had agreed last June to fund improvements to certain crossings to improve safety and allow the whistle cessation to proceed. The crossings included one at Mile 196.7 on Bruce’s main street, Mile 197.16 at S.H. 857 and Mile 232.39 at S.H. 630 (Lindbrook).

The county would pay 50 per cent of the costs for these improvements, which were respectively $26,384, $17,984 and $20,295.

However, since then Councillor Barry Bruce (Division 4) expressed his concern that the process was taking too long, and council passed a motion November 17 to investigate the idea of not paying the county’s share until the whistles ceased to blow.

At the December 1 meeting, Council was then made aware that an agreement for the crossing at Bruce has already been signed in late September and returned to CN in early October.

Superintendent of Public Works Darby Dietz also informed council that the other agreements must be spear-

headed by Alberta Transportation as the road authority for the crossings at S.H. 857 and S.H. 630. Dietz said the agreements have been sent to the department but staffing changes have delayed the process.

“We have now been advised that Alberta Transportation will not sign the agreements unless the agreements are clear they are not responsible for any costs associated with the whistle cessation,” stated Dietz, in his report to council.

Alberta Transportation has since requested that Beaver County be named as the official party responsible for the costs, and Dietz said the county passed this on to CN “with a similar request for amended documents.”

The three crossings where whistle cessation is being requested have no maintenance payments by the county.

Dietz said there are three other crossings where a total of almost $1,000 per month are being paid by the county.

The agreements regarding the three with whistle cessation requests have a dispute resolution clause that the county has signed on to if there are issues.

Although a CN official has been requested to attend a county council meeting, Dietz reported that request

has been denied.

Reeve Kevin Smook (Division 1) said this last statement struck him regarding CN declining a request to come to council.

Interim CAO Margaret Jones said “the ball is in Alberta Transportation’s court.”

Bruce defended his suggestion to withhold maintenance payments to send a signal to CN that the county is getting impatient with the whistle cessation process.

He compared withholding $1,000 for three crossings “like an eyelash in a lake,” in terms of effect on CN. But he wanted to “take a moral stance,” that “people are suffering daily” due to the whistles being blown.

Holding back funds would highlight the stress on people in the county regarding the effect of the train horns on them. And he called it “a very black eye” on CN for refusing to come to council when asked.

“It does not make them look good in the public,” he said, adding: “Shame on CN, shame on Transport Canada.”

But three other councillors disagreed with that assessment.

“This is outside their total control, too,” said Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3), noting that “Alberta

Transportation has come back with reasons for the holdup.”

Hrabec said he didn’t like blaming them for other issues stating, “it’s not necessarily their fault…I’d rather work with them than force them into a corner.”

Councillor Dale Pederson agreed: “I think patience is the answer,” he said.

“I just don’t feel right going any further with this.” Pederson was unsure where to lay the blame for delays, stating: “They have bigger fish to fry.”

Councillor Lionel Williams (Division 2) agreed that “two whistle crossings in a small municipality is pretty small stuff,” for CN. “It will take awhile and we probably can’t do much about it, really.”

Bruce argued that trains are frequent now and whistles are blowing “all the time,” and affecting residents who have families who lived generations on their properties and can’t move away.

Williams called CN “good corporate citizens,” adding he “enjoys the train whistle because it saves lives.”

Hrabec said the contract with CN needs to be honoured. “I want to be a good corporate citizen, too.”

Council agreed to “respectfully ask CN to come” to a meeting with council, as worded by Smook.

New Code of Conduct bylaw gets two readings Patricia Harcourt Beaver County Council gave two readings to a new Code of Conduct bylaw at its December 1 meeting. Third and final reading will be considered at the next meeting to give the public time to be consulted about the change.

Interim CAO Margaret Jones made the recommendation for the new bylaw, reminding council that the Corporate Governance Review suggested the county strengthen the confidentiality protocol in its code of conduct.

“Administration conducted a review of the Code of Conduct bylaws of some

of its rural neighbours,” said Jones.

“They all appear to be similar in format which is a different format than the county’s bylaw.”

She said the new format was recommended as “more comprehensive and meets the intent of the recommendation of the Corporate Governance Review.”

Jones also said the Corporate Governance Review recommended that council give only a maximum of two readings to a new bylaw at one sitting, unless it is time sensitive.

This allows the public time to read and give input to the proposed bylaw before a third and final reading is done.

Reeve Kevin Smook (Division 1) noted the county’s current bylaw has a single clause describing what entails confidentiality, while the proposed bylaw has four subsections providing more clarity on the subject. He found that a statement describing the respecting of confidentiality “nails it” in the proposed bylaw.

Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3) asked why these pertinent clauses regarding confidentiality weren’t simply added into the old bylaw.

Jones replied that “there was nothing wrong” with the old bylaw. “I just felt this (newer) bylaw was a bit clearer on the various issues, that’s all.”

It was also noted that the newer bylaw has a “formal and informal process” allowing both council members and the public to bring forward issues of concern.

After first reading was passed, Hrabec said he voted against it because he found the newer bylaw “a lot busier.”

Second reading of the proposed new bylaw was then passed, again without Hrabec’s support.

With no recommendation made to have a third reading at the same sitting of council, the final motion will come back to council for consideration on December 15.

Drop-in cases up by 36 per cent at local FCSS in 2021

Dawn Chrystian, Director for Viking/Beaver Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), presented Beaver County Council with a synopsis of the year, and expectations for the future.

“We are seeing a marked increase in the number of individuals who are accessing our services,” said Chrystian, notably with walk-n visits from people often in crisis.

“This trend began in 2020, with the number of clients dropping in for services increasing by 20 per cent. This trend has continued into 2021 with a 36 per cent increase in the number of drop-in clients so far.

“These particular clients are not connecting with us to access any specific program,” said Chrystian. “Rather, they require assistance accessing various resources and direction as to how to go about doing so.

“Increasingly, these individuals are accessing services in crisis, requiring us to address immediate concerns before moving along to prevention services.”

She added: “Although this rise in use is worrisome, the fact that we are recognized as a location where individuals can go for help is an enormous success.”

She credited this kind of recognition by the public of FCSS’s accessibility and openness to helping others in distress to the financial support of local municipalities, which help make it available for this purpose.

Of the support from Beaver County, she said: “I do believe it’s more critical than ever.”

Chrystian said the increased levels of persons dropping in for help is happening “absolutely, right across the county,” and places like Holden and Tofield “are experiencing the same kind of increases.”

Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3) thanked Chrystian “for the great job you do,” noting that “all three (FCSS outlets) do an excellent job.”

However, he asked how the message could get out to more people many of whom are unaware of what FCSS does and the services it provides within the county.

Chrystian said Hrabec’s question had many layers to it. “It’s very critical to talk to people in trouble,” she said.

“You don’t know exactly what you need until you need it.”

FCSS does outreach work to get the message out, puts ads into the paper, gets referrals from other agencies, and deals with ongoing issues.

Newly elected councillor Lionel Williams (Division 2) said he attended an orientation session about FCSS, which “really helped me understand what is going on.”

Division 4 Councillor Barry Bruce also thanked Chrystian for her “good work,” echoing Hrabec in wanting to know “how to get the word out to everybody,” about FCSS. Reeve Kevin Smook (Division 1) said the public can hear about FCSS by watching county meetings via social media, and can also read about it through newspaper reporting of the meeting.

Viking/Beaver FCSS’s budget for each of the past two years has been $230,248.49. The county’s portion of this was $38,855.50 and the provincial portion was $90,505. Other local municipalities also contribute.

The agency reported an operational deficit of $2,386 in 2020 due to a decrease in revenues. COVID-19 saw a drop in the numbers of in-person counselling and the resulting drop in programming registration fees. There was also an increase in family counselling expenses.

Clients finding themselves unemployed received counselling at reduced fees and there were increased expenses for COVID-19 protocols such as installing Plexiglass shields and the need for more sanitation supplies. This resulting revenue drop was combined with increased expenses, which added to the deficit.

“We’re not asking for any additional funds,” Chrystian said, noting that now FCSS even has “a bit of a cushion from local financial donations. So we’re not worried about that.

“The quality of work and level of engagement is more important than money,” she said.

To that end, the FCSS board passed a strategic plan for 2020-2022 involving building welcoming communities and “expanding our capacity to respond to mental health and wellness.”

She said clients are increasingly being seen one-on-one “to meet their specific needs and connect them to additional resources as required.”

She pledged to “continue to work diligently to ensure all those who come to us in need of assistance are treated with dignity and respect, and know that their concerns are heard.

County approves up to $500,000 grant for Tofield Arena upgrade Patricia Harcourt Beaver County has approved a $500,000 grant to the Tofield Agricultural Society for the town’s arena upgrade. The funds will match what the Town of Tofield is giving for the project, which is to replace the arena floor and upgrade the Zamboni room.

Beaver County’s funds will come from the dividend received from Claystone Waste.

The decision was made after a delegation from the agricultural society, which owns the arena in Tofield, once again came before county council December 1 asking for a decision. The society had come to the county May 19 and September 1 of this year.

The arena’s operational needs are covered through a grant from the province, and a shared services agreement with the county based on per capita (62.38 per cent for the county and 37.2 per

cent for the town.

However, capital costs are not included in this agreement so funding for renovations have to be found elsewhere.

The estimated cost is $1.56 million, broken down into $1.2 million for the floor and $360,000 for the Zamboni room, with the society fundraising $200,000. The hope is that several grant applications the society has also made will be approved that would lower the grant funding needed from the county depending on what successful grants come through.

The arena was originally built in 1972, with an addition added in 2009.

The original slab flooring is still being used.

Although they are expected to last 35-40 years this floor is now 49 years old, council was told.

Ag Society President Dave Berrecloth said: “We’re quite concerned and want to get it out to tender,” due to current issues with getting materials and qualified labour.

reserves to fix things?”

Berrecloth explained there is no reserve funding now because costs for minor hockey were kept low using their grants so kids could afford to play.

“We’re proud of that,” he said. adding that this was an issue that would

have to be looked into in the future.

After the presentation, council passed a motion

by Councillor Lionel Williams (Division 2) to accept the recommendation of administration and give the $500,000 grant.

NEW Small Business Classification TIME IS RUNNING OUT *NEW* SMALL BUSINESS CLASSIFICATION In early 2021, Beaver County Council established a new assessment classification for small businesses. Council recognizes that small businesses are struggling in our current economy and is considering a reduction in the tax rate for this key sector of our rural community.

To be eligible for the small business classification, a non-residential property must meet certain criteria, including a valid development/business permit, employment of fewer than 50 full-time staff, and submission of an application by the deadline date.Council will decide on the small business tax rate when the annual budget is approved in the Spring. Provincial legislation limits the tax rate to no less than 75% of the general non-residential tax rate.

Tofield Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 18 Joyce Sinclair Guest Columnist

This year marks the 121st Annual Christmas Bird Count in the longest-running North American winter-time tradition.

The Christmas bird count began over a century ago, led by scientist Frank Chapman.

On Christmas Day in 1900, the small group of conservationists posed

an alternative to the ‘side hunt’, a Christmas Day activity, in which teams competed to see who could shoot the most birds and mammals.

Instead Chapman proposed to identify, count, and record all the birds they saw, founding what is now considered to be the most significant citizen-based conservation effort.

Today over 75,000 volunteers from every

province and territory, all 50 States, parts of Central, South America, Bermuda, the West Indies and Pacific Islands count every individual bird and bird species seen in a specified area.

This year’s Tofield count takes place Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021.

Currently the Tofield count area is appealing for interested local feeder watchers to par-

ticipate.

If you currently feed the birds in your yard, it only takes a minimal amount of time to record the maximum number of species, at you bird feeder at any one time.

This year, the Tofield Sr. Girls’ volleyball team was coached by Tofield staff Marcel Flasha.

The team consisted of players from Grade 12 – Julie Anderson, Rayanne Beatson, Abby Match, Erika Rickett, Kaelyn Sideroff; Grade 11 – Alise Anderson, Mackenzie Fisher, Mio Yamazaki; and Grade 10 – Avery Stevenson, Kayden

Strilchuk, Annika Surridge, Kendra Yuha, Gabby Woodruff.

Their league play was against League play was against OLMP, Sedgewick School, and Wainwright High.

They also played tournaments in Fort Saskatchewan, Boyle, and Hay Lakes; and advanced to Zones in Rocky Mountain High.
