Alberta Conservation hosts 6th Annual Waterfowl Warmup in Tofield Moush John Tofield Mercury

One of Alberta Conservation’s staple fundraisers, Waterfowl Warmup was hosted just west of Tofield on Thursday, Aug. 20.

It was a sporting clays challenge with teams of four registering for a friendly shootout.

“The course format is set up much like a golf course, but rather than holes, there are shooting stations,” said Laura Volkman, events coordinator. “The event serves as a fundraiser for the Report-A-Poacher program, raising funds to support efforts to educate the public about responsible hunting and angling and the negative impacts of poaching.”

This was their sixth “successful” year of having the event, despite restrictions due to Covid-19.

The event included various demo stations, a barbecue lunch, the competition, and closing ceremonies.

“We also had the Honourable Jason Nixon, Minister of Alberta Environment and Parks, attend, participate, and speak at the event, alongside MLA Jackie Lovely,” Volkman added. “This year was different due to Covid19 regulations, and we limited the number of teams that could participate to stay well under current regulations for large gatherings.

“We also followed social distancing protocols with masks, disinfecting

wipes, hand sanitizers, and hand washing stations were available at

the event.”

Loose Ends: The Edmonton Whosits

I’ve never been an Edmonton Eskimo fan because – I’ve admitted this before and still keep my head on a swivel in case there’s a hit man with a

sniper rifle lurking in the shadows – I am a big time Calgary Stampeder fan. This started with the 13 or so years we lived down there, with season tickets for many of them, and has continued even after living many more years closer to Eskimo turf. Besides, I think the running white mustang is a much cooler emblem than the double E. Even so, it has bothered me how it came up every year that Edmonton needed to change its

name because it was an insult to the Inuit. Nothing ever came of it until this year. Perhaps due to a diminished resolve thanks to the pandemic and everyone being super conscious of anything even hinting at racism, they are actually doing it – the search is on for a new name. They’ve been the Eskimos for more years than some of the protesters have been alive and have been more than a team in the CFL – they are an institu-

tion. Changing their name is far more than changing a name, it is the tearing down of a longstanding part of Canadian sports history. I’m not switching sides, could never do that – but it’s a darn shame. Just saying!

If further proof is needed that I’m still not a fan of the Edmonton Whosits, here are a few possible new names I’ve come up with. It hasn’t been easy since they are keeping their team

colours and the double E logo. So that takes Edmonton Aggravators or Lightweights off the table. But the Egos is still there. Oops, did I write that out loud? Please remember that I’m doing this all in jest.

The Edmonton Electric (not to be confused with any actual electric company)? Edmonton Energy? Edmonton Eddies (they spin around but never go anywhere)? The Edmonton Edge? Element? Escape?

Exhaust (filled with a lot of hot air)? Executioners? No that might be too much to live up to!

They could take to wearing low-slung gun belts and rename the stadium the OK Corral. My favourite.

Whatever name they choose they’d better do it soon. They don’t want fans to get used to thinking of them as the Edmonton Whosits or ‘that other Alberta Team’– it might stick.

The Tofield RCMP responded to 67 occurrences from Aug. 18 to 24, including one false alarm, four traffic complaints, and four motor vehicle collisions. The K Division Traffic Unit along with Tofield RCMP members issued 40 violation tickets for various traffic offences.

At 8 p.m., several rural residents of southern Beaver County were reporting multiple ongoing gunshots being fired.

RCMP attended the area and confirmed the source of the gunfire was the Sherwood Park Fish & Game Association – Firing Range.

At 10:40 p.m., RCMP attended a business in

Tofield regarding a suspicious couple. A male and female were overheard talking about stealing from the business but were approached by a generous customer who offered to pay for their purchases. The couple accepted the offer and left the store without incident.

On Aug. 19 at 8:34 a.m., Tofield RCMP responded to an abandoned truck in a field that had been

stunting. The truck was rotted out and did not have a registered owner so it was towed away.

At 12:24 p.m., RCMP investigated a report of threatening messages. A female was alleging her ex-partner had been sending her threatening texts and voicemails. Investigation revealed the accusations were false and the female was currently on conditions to have no contact with her

National media will be an uphill battle for O’Toole as it was for Scheer

Immediately after being elected as the new leader of the federal Conservative Party of Canada, Erin O’Toole gave a better speech than I had heard former leader Andrew Scheer give in his three previous years at the helm. He spoke of uniting the party, fighting against the divisive Liberal government, and being inclusive to all Canadians. Direct, articulate, well-spoken.

O’Toole was elected leader of the Conservatives late Sunday evening. The victory was a bit of an upset over favourite Peter MacKay, but maybe the biggest surprise was how well Leslyn Lewis did finishing third. The first visible minority woman to run for party leadership, and a relative newcomer to politics, the Jamaican born lawyer’s only downfall was her poor sup-

port in Quebec largely because she is just learning to speak French.

One of Sheer’s finest moments happened just last week when CBC announcer Natasha Fatah asked him why the Conservative Party continues to have the perception that it is a place where a black female candidate like Leslyn Lewis seem to get little attention.

“Why was Kamala Harris lauded and celebrated while Leslyn Lewis was someone forgotten in the conversation?” she asked.

Scheer fired back, “That would be a great question for me to ask you and your network (CBC) . . .

Why do you spend so much time talking about American politics and highlighting American candidates when here we have a Canadian candidate, and here we have a black woman who’s running for the leadership of the party.

“As for the energy that surrounds it, you can’t look to the CBC to find an accurate reporting of what’s going on with the

Conservative Party of Canada. There is a tremendous amount of excitement. I think you are going to find Leslyn Lewis place very strong in many many regions.”

Scheer added that he is not surprised that the mainstream media has been downplaying her candidacy and rather focusing on American politics. In his exit speech he even applauded “independent objective organizations” that are

growing all the time like internet sites Post Millennial and True North.

“It’s always been frustrating for me as a Canadian taxpayer that the state-run broadcaster in this country, CBC, spends so much time and energy covering American politics,” said Scheer. “Using taxpayers’ money to cover politics in another country when they ignore and downplay many of the things

happening here in Canada especially within the Conservative movement. So I would love to hear an answer to that question from your own network.”

Rather than continue the conversation, Fatah said she would pass it along to the network. On the night of the Conservative leadership decision, CBC snubbed its nose at Scheer’s criticism by having Left Wing publications Huffington

Post and Toronto Star on hand with commentary. They often seemed at a loss when talking about the Conservative Party candidates, and were quite brutal in their criticism of Scheer.

New CPC leader O’Toole will now take up the outgoing leader’s battle against a national media favouring his opponent. His only advantage, PM Justin Trudeau’s endless gaffs and corruption.

Busy B reopens, continues to receive donations Moush John Tofield Mercury

Tofield’s Busy B has been operational in receiving donations throughout spring and summer, despite COVID19.

Although they have reopened to the public now, Yvonne Brown, main operator and organizer maintained COVID-19 protocols and sought special permission from the Town of Tofield to deal with donations.

“One of our volunteers Josie and me ensured that the area is clean and the shed is empty for more donations,” Brown explained. “Unfortunately, three times there was a theft of all items in the shed. The back door was kept open for safety reasons, and people would stand in the doorway to

request items.”

According to Brown, Busy B helped homeless people and those in need.

“We helped people who needed quilting material, books, jigsaw puzzles etc. to keep themselves busy,” she said. “There wasn’t any charge for these items but some people gave a donation.”

The first three weeks after reopening their income doubled, with donations increasing significantly.

IGA got a new roof installed by Blue Collar Roofing. Busy B allowed their sanitation trailer to park on their property.

“This wonderful company filled in a large hole in the parking lot. They also made a floor in the donation bin using leftover sheets of chipboard from IGA.”

The Lodge contacted Busy B for yarn, and were supplied several times at no charge.

Prom dresses were available as well.

Viking FCSS had contacted Busy B for school supplies, which will be donated to them, Brown said.

“I attended a meeting with some community

members from Camrose and area, where I was able to inform them what we did during the closure,” she stated. “Thank you to all the Busy B vol-

unteers and a special thank you to all who have supported us.”

Back-to-School supplies are available should anyone need them.

County discusses shovel ready projects decision put off to September for 2021 jobs Patricia Harcourt Unclear on what is a ‘shovel ready project’ through the province’s municipal stimulus program, Beaver County has deferred any decision on what projects to apply for until Sept. 16.

The motion by Division 1 Councillor Kevin Smook also requested administration to investigate prior to that meeting what qualifies as a shovel ready project.

CAO Bob Beck said the county is “looking at 2021 at this point” for starting any project through the program.

“Oct. 1 is the deadline for 2021 projects,” he said, adding that the Rural Municipalities Association is waiting for more details from the federal government which is also helping to fund the program.

“We’ll try for final answers the second meeting in September,” he said.

When the province announced the stimulus program, it was noted that the funds were being earmarked for “projects not requiring engineering or other studies,” he said, to undertake.

Beck had attached a list of projects for county council to consider at its Aug. 19 meeting.

“It should be noted that in order to comply with the grant program, the county must undertake red tape reduction initiatives,” he stated, in his report to council.

Verbally, he said the county’s allotment under the program was $701,922. His recommendation had been to focus on road rehabilitation using terracem and chip seal that would require no engineering.

Bridge repairs were also an option, among others.

Beck stated in his report that 40 miles of arterial roads in the county would cost $250,000 per mile, or $10 million in total. Thirty miles of local and collector roads would cost $250,000 per mile, or a total of $7.5 million.

“Could we put an army out there and fix roads…until we’ve used up $700,000 worth,” asked Smook. “There are some roads destined to be terracemed.”

But Beck said his “gut feeling” was that the stimulus program wants specific projects not things the county would do in its pre-existing road program that might fall under MSI or BMS funding.

“I see this as an opportunity to get a real handle on our roads,” replied Smook, noting that “the irony of the municipal stimulus program is that you have to reduce red tape (to qualify) but you have to keep track of the accounting which creates more work for administration.”

Beck agreed: “Yes, we have to prepare a red tape reduction strategy…We have to create a lot of red tape in order to qualify (for) the next two years.”

But roads appeared to be of prime interest as Division 4 Councillor Barry Bruce said he agreed with Smook about “putting an army on the roads.”

But using terracem “on certain roads” in a division that needs it “will be a problem for divisions that don’t get it,” he said. “Let the people that live in the area and know the problems decide what needs to be done…That would eliminate red tape.”

Division 5 Councillor Dale Pederson recommended the county use the funds “for an aggressive culvert replacement program,” of which Bruce also has a problem that “we run into year after year.”

Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3) favoured shoulder pulls, a project not on the list.

“We could show in each division that money is spent,” he said, adding “it has more merit (as a project) than a solar farm or a building.”

Since the county has sold all its construction equipment, he noted another criteria of the program - hiring private companies to do the work - could be fulfilled as well.

“There’s lots of ratepayers that would come forward with roads that need rehabilitation,” he said, adding it would “pay dividends.

“I favour that as a project,” he said. Beck added the cost would be $20,000 to $30,000 per mile using private contractors which he said “are really fast and efficient.”

Hrabec said: “We would have 35 miles of road to be done in our divisions,” including seven or eight miles in other divisions “that would have an impact.

“The biggest complaint by the ratepayers is that no road construction is being done,” he said.

Reeve Jim Kallal (Division 2) asked Beck if these requests from various councillors “could be bundled and meet the requirements?”

Beck replied that the province “is looking for specific projects,” and those suggested by the councillors may be “skidding into general operations” projects.

Bruce said he “liked Gene’s idea of doing a few miles in each division,” referring to shoulder pulls.

The possibility of shoulder pulls being hampered with wet roads was discussed, too.

“You can do it when wet,” said Hrabec, “but it’s harder to pack down…The key is to use contractors for shovel readies.”

Aimee Boese, county agriculture official, explained that the policy enacted at the Aug. 19 meeting is separate from the kind of beaver control done by the county itself.

“This is a policy for what the landowner can do regarding beaver control,” she said, by offering a financial incentive to them.

With the great amount of water this year brought on by high spring runoff and summer rain, the county is dealing with an unprecedented number of beaver causing damage.

Beaver County hired a trapper to remove beaver and blockages to protect county infrastructure. So far,

that trapper has removed 348 beaver, Boese said.

But the county doesn’t do work on private land that doesn’t affect county infrastructure.

“By providing a financial incentive to landowners to mitigate beaver on their own property,” she said, “it may assist with drainage management throughout the county.”

Council asked administration to find a way to reimplement a since discontinued beaver tail bounty program initiated two years ago.

The new incentive program would require the landowner or other authorized person to sign a form indicating where the beaver were removed from and that permission had been obtained to do so beforehand.

The program would be county-wide and run all year with no maximum limit on the number of tails

submitted. The price per tail would be $20 with the landowner having to apply to the program to receive the funds.

“The trapper is very busy,” said Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec (Division 3), adding: “It’s a never ending story…Beaver County will always have beavers.”

“The only one opposed to this in Division 4 is the beavers,” joked Division 4 Councillor Barry Bruce.

While Division 1 Councillor Kevin Smook said the policy was “a necessary tool,” he noted it was “not universally loved.” He noted the incentive policy was not mandatory but participatory in nature.

The money would come from either year end surpluses or Beaver Municipal Solutions funding.

“We’re starting part-way through the year so we won’t need the full $10,000 (allotment),” said Boese.

County enters into new agreement with Tofield for FCSS program Patricia Harcourt Beaver County has agreed to enter into an agreement with the Town of Tofield for services from the Tofield/ Beaver West FCSS Program. The new agreement leaves out the Village of Ryley which has announced it will start its own such program.

The partnership between the three jurisdictions has held together for many years. Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) were delivered to the entire western half of the county through this agreement.

However, Ryley has since announced it is starting its own social services program and invited the county to join the new organization.

But County Council decided last month to stick with its current FCSS program which now partners just with Tofield.

County CAO Bob Beck presented county council with a draft agreement at the county’s Aug. 19 regular meeting.

Beck said the agreement remains the same as previously except that the Village of Ryley is no longer included in it.

As the county’s representative on the Tofield/Beaver FCSS board, Division 1 Councillor Kevin Smook told county councillors that the September FCSS meeting will include discussions concerning the 2021 budget and the loss of revenue resulting from Ryley dropping

out of the program.

Deputy Reeve Gene Hrabec said Ryley has paid $9,600 as its per capita contribution to the FCSS program, which is no less than 20 per cent of the overall budget.

Hrabec, who represents Division 3, also expressed concern about what the county would do if someone in the Ryley or surrounding county area asked for assistance.

“Anyone in need won’t be turned away,” replied Smook. “The bottom line is helping people.”

“FCSS does have a tremendous role out here,” agreed Reeve Jim Kallal (Division 2). However, Kallal wondered if the program has as part of the agreement FCSS being allowed to raise revenues by up to four per cent annually.

“It means now that FCSS can authorize a four per cent increase every year,” he contended, adding an explanation to the participating municipalities about the reasons for the increase isn’t even required. “It’s unilateral,” he said.

CAO Beck said FCSS “has always submitted their budget before the (county’s) interim budget for pre-approval…It really hasn’t increased in a long time…

“I think you can reject their budget request,” he said, adding: “I’ve never seen that being abused…I’m not so sure it’s an automatic four percent increase and there’s nothing we can say. I don’t agree with that.”

After discussion, the motion passed.

Minister Jason Nixon working to keep ‘province’s backyard beautiful and accessible’ Moush John Tofield Mercury

MLA Jason Nixon, Minister of Environment and Parks recently had the opportunity to address some of the ‘work’ that’s been done by his department to get Albertans gainfully employed as part of Alberta’s recovery Plan.

“The Alberta government continues to focus on significant conservation work to protect Alberta’s land, water and air – in addition to the $43 million we are spending to improve our parks and public lands,” Nixon said. “This includes responsible Crown land management and supporting stewardship initiatives on private lands.

Roughly 147,000 acres have been conserved through the land trust grant program.

“And $7 million has been allocated for the 2019-21 Watershed Resiliency Restoration Program, which helps communities prepare for and rebuild after flooding.

The Alberta Environment and Parks is also working with their Indigenous partners and job creators on restoration of caribou habitat and water crossings.

The Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction regulation is already helping large emitters reduce their impact on the environment, according to Nixon, and this will continue to be an important priority for government.

“We’re also focused on

protecting the riparian areas in the Eastern Slopes – as they are important headwaters for all Albertans and home to many important fish species, including our native trout; besides working with and funding conservation groups such as Cows and Fish, who work to protect this key habitat,” he explained.

“We continue to take strong, co-ordinated action to keep our province’s backyard beautiful and accessible to

all, as more Albertans than ever are enjoying the great outdoors.”

Nixon said that across the province the government is investing $500 million in municipalities so they can immediately build roads, bridges, fire stations, water systems, and other critical local infrastructure as part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan.

“This funding will help municipalities and Metis Settlements create and sustain local jobs, improve provincial competitive-

ness and productivity, and position them to participate in future growth,”

RCMP report Continued from Page 5 Threats and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking after two neighbours tried to speak with her about her barking dog.

Later that evening in Holden, RCMP were called to an attempted break-in to a car. The complainant was sleeping in his car when a suspect tried to enter the car before being scared off.

Patrols of the area failed to locate the suspect.

On Aug. 20 at 9:02 a.m., RCMP received a report of a white SUV being driven erratically and believed to be stolen. The SUV was located by RCMP near Vegreville but failed to stop for police.

At 3:30 p.m., RCMP received a report of mischief from a business in Tofield. A customer’s vehicle had their back windows smashed out sometime overnight.

At 6:29 p.m., RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Tofield to assist EMS with a drug overdose. A female was located and was conscious and breathing.

EMS deemed the female suitable for transport to Edmonton for further assessment.

At 10:50 p.m., RCMP attended a residence in Holden regarding a possi-

ble disturbance that had been called in by a neighbour. RCMP attended and confirmed that everyone in the house was safe and no offence had occurred.

On Aug. 21 at 9:53 a.m., RCMP received a report of a possible hacked phone.

The complainant was worried that their ex-spouse was trying to set up spyware on their phone to track them. RCMP investigation confirmed that there were no indications of this and provided the complainant information on applying for a restraining order.

At 3:40 p.m., RCMP received a request for a welfare check on an individual after they made comments about wanting to self harm. Members attended and arrested the individual under the Mental Health Act in order to transport them to hospital for assessment by a doctor.

At 6:25 p.m., RCMP received several calls of a suspicious van parked near a cemetery. RCMP were able to track down the van and confirmed it was a private courier delivering packages. No offence recorded.

At 8:49 p.m., RCMP were requested to assist with a child custody dispute.

RCMP confirmed that the children were fine and mediated an agreed upon dropoff for the parents.

On Aug. 22 at 1:26 p.m., RCMP received report of a possible impaired driver in Tofield. Patrol was made and investigation confirmed that the driver was impaired. The driver provided samples of breath confirming they had over double the legal limit. The driver was released with a court date after being charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and having 80mg/% or more of alcohol in their blood.

On Aug. 23 at 9:09 p.m., RCMP were dispatched to a loud party at a rural residence. RCMP attended and confirmed there was a small gathering however noise was not an issue. The complainant was instructed to contact Beaver County for follow up if the issue continues.

Tofield RCMP would like to remind residents that the front door remains locked due to Covid-19 protocols.

They still have office staff Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made at the detachment as long as you call ahead at 780-6623353 and pass their Covid-19 screening protocols.

Each riding in Canada is assigned 100 points.

There are 338 ridings, and a total of 33,800 points available. In order to win, a candidate needs to gain 16,901 points.

While every party member has a vote, ridings with fewer members end up with each voter having a larger percentage of that riding’s 100 points.

For example, in Battle River Crowfoot, there were 1,816 ballots, so each voter had 0.05 of one point.

Points for each riding are given based on the percentage of the vote each candidate gets in that riding. Fifty per cent of the votes means 50 points.

Last-place candidates are dropped from the ballot after each round, and each voter’s second choice candidate receives their Round two vote.

If a voter doesn’t designate a second or third choice, their points are reallocated between the remaining voters who did.

Round two from Battle River Crowfoot showed a big jump for Lewis, with 794 votes to O’Toole’s 704, with Mackay showing a modest jump to 274.

For Battle River Crowfoot, the total voters dropped to 1,772 in Round two, slightly increasing the weight of each vote for a candidate.

After the second round of voting, Lewis had 44.8 points to O’Toole’s 39.729 points, and Mackay’s 15.4 points.

Nationally, however, Lewis ended Round two with 10,140 points, to Mackay’s 11,756 points and O’Toole’s 11,903 points. No one could be declared a winner at that point because no single candidate had yet gained the 16,901 points necessary for a win.

Because Lewis had the fewest overall points in round two, she was dropped from the ballot, despite having the largest number of overall votes.

That’s generally an indicator that a candidate didn’t have broad support throughout the country, analysts report.

In ridings with larger groups of voters, each voter has a smaller percentage of those 100 points, so more votes doesn’t necessarily equate to more points.

In the third round of voting, the number of Battle River Crowfoot voters dropped to 1,524, giving each voter 0.065 points. Mackay’s total in-

creased moderately, to 385 votes, or just over 25 of the riding’s 100 points, and O’Toole ended up with 1,139 votes, and close to 75 points.

Nationally, O’Toole gained 7,368 points in Round three, putting him well over the necessary number, with 19,271 points overall, compared to Mackay’s 14,528 points.

The CPC released a statement on Monday, Aug. 24 stating that O’Toole had received congratulations from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by telephone that day, where O’Toole “Made a point to raise western alienation and called on Mr. Trudeau to outline a plan to address real and serious national unity concerns in the [September] Speech from the Throne.”

The release went on to say that O’Toole also stressed the importance of parliamentary committees resuming as quickly as possible, including the investigation into the WE issue and the Special Committee on Canada-China Relations’ study of the situation in Hong Kong.

Municipal Stimulus Program Lovely stated that the municipalities in her constituency will be receiving investments to provide them with resources in getting Albertans back to work.

“Beaver County will receive $701,922 from the Municipal Stimulus program, which will give them the opportunity to put forward shovel-ready projects to Municipal Affairs that will create jobs for the residents,” she said. “Flagstaff County

will also receive $444,333 from the Municipal Stimulus program to create shovel-ready projects. We recognize municipalities as partners, and we are providing them with the resources they need to support Albertans at this unprecedented time.

“We are investing $500 million in municipalities across Alberta, so they can immediately build shovel-ready projects in their communities and get their people back to work now.”

As part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, Camrose and the surrounding region is receiving funding for several major projects, including $10.2 million towards major upgrades to the Camrose wastewater system.

“This investment, which is expected to begin early next year, will create 36 jobs over the two-year construction period,” Lovely explained.

“Although we rarely think about it in our daily lives, safe and environment-friendly wastewater systems is vital to our community.”

The Camrose Community Airport is also receiving a $1.6 million investment to resurface the runway for the local airport, under the Community Airport Program, which will allow more than 5,000 flights that come to Camrose annually to take off and land more safely and smoothly, and will keep the community connected with the rest of Alberta, according to Lovely.

“The reason why this project is important to the outlying areas in the Camrose constituency is because of all the rain we’ve had this year. Our agriculture community requires an aerial application of fungicide in order to preserve our crops.”

Speaking to ACA’s protocols during Covid19, President Todd Zimmerling said, “We implemented a number of COVID safety protocols including reducing staff numbers in the office, restricting travel to one person to vehicle, and cancelling projects where adequate physical distancing could not be achieved.”

He explained that ACA works on everything from stocking ponds with rainbow trout, to working with landowners, to conservation critical habitat for species at risk, to doing the promotion of the Report-APoacher program.

“Although ACA has no role in enforcing fish and wildlife regulations, we work in partnership with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General to educate hunters, anglers and the general public about the

regulations and we promote the Report A Poacher program through our social media and through the use of our RAP Trailer at events and tradeshows around the province.

According to Nixon, once funding decisions are made, it will be distributed on a per capita basis with a $50,000-minimum for most municipalities; summer villages to receive a base of $5,000 plus the per capita amount. This is the same formula as the federal Gas Tax Fund.

Maximum funding for municipalities in the region are as follows: City of Camrose: $2,227,845; Camrose County: 1,029,406; Ryley: $57,414; Holden: $50,000; Viking: $128,735; Killam: $117,562; and Sedgewick: $96,403.

“The government is in-

vesting $43 million in new and improved outdoor recreation infrastructure in provincial parks and public lands,” he added.

“More announcements about other areas of the province – including $4 million in total for the central region – are coming soon.”

Nixon stated that that as part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, the government recently announced infrastructure projects that will support more than 40 jobs in Camrose.

“This includes $12 million for upgrades to the City of Camrose’s airport and wastewater treatment plant, and a $10.2-million grant under the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership, which will go toward a $38.8-million upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant to meet new environmental standards for treatment of effluent,” Nixon said.

“Earlier this year, the gov-

ernment also announced an investment of $5.2 million to redevelop the existing Stoney Creek Lodge to accommodate new assisted living spaces. The project is a partnership with government and Alberta Health Services (AHS), the Camrose and Area Lodge Authority and the Bethany Group.”
