Raising Suicide Prevention Awareness in Flagstaff

Four events in four Flagstaff communities on Tuesday, Sept. 8, were held to raise awareness for suicide prevention. RCMP deal with 145 calls for service in three-week period Leslie Cholowsky Editor, with files from Cpl. Trent Cleveland. Killam RCMP Detachment Acting Commander Between Aug. 15 and Sept. 7, Killam RCMP responded to 145 Calls for Service. Charges were laid or are pending in a number of cases, including: Jared Lizee (35 yrs) was arrested and charged with two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order. A bail Hearing was held and Lizee was remanded into custody. Killam RCMP received multiple 911 calls of a vehicle speeding and driving westbound in the eastbound lanes on Hwy 13. RCMP members located the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated when the suspect vehicle entered the City of Camrose. An RCMP helicopter located the suspect vehicle and two males were arrested with the assistance of the
Camrose Police Service. A 54-yr-old male from Sherwood Park was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Resist/Obstruct Police, and possession of a controlled substance. Killam RCMP received a report of a harassing communications. Through the RCMP's investigation a 35-yr-old male from Stettler was located, arrested and charged with Harassing Communication and Failing to Comply with Release Conditions. Members received a call of an erratic driver on Highway 36. The RCMP located the vehicle and a 50-yr-old female driver from Red Deer blew in an approved roadside screening device resulting in a fail. The female was arrested and brought to the detachment for an intox. test where she blew 110mg per cent (legal limit is 80mg per cent) Killam RCMP received a report from Lougheed Grocery of the theft of lottery tickets. A statement and sur-
veillance was obtained. Killam RCMP completed an Intelex and shared the photo of the suspect. Edmonton Police Service confirmed the identity of the suspect. A warrant for arrest has been issued. Killam RCMP completed a proactive traffic stop and the driver was issued an Immediate Roadside Suspension for alcohol, along with a three-day vehicle seizure and licence suspension. Killam RCMP has a number of serious/sensitive occurrences involving charges that can not be disclosed. In total, members also responded to 11 911 hang ups, three false alarms, three reports of abandoned vehicles, three animal calls, seven assistance requests to other police and RCMP, two failure to comply with probation, two failure to comply with release conditions, one fire department assist, five complaints of harassing communications, three complaints under the Liquor Act, two mischief complaints,
20 provincial and statute violations, one roadside licence suspension, seven complains of suspicious persons or vehicles, 20 motor vehicle collisions, two trespassing complains, three wellbeing checks, and one missing person. RCMP members also investigated four complaints of assault, six break and enters across the region, one complaint of criminal harassment, three complaints of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one complaint of defamatory libel, one complaint of disturbing the peace, one failure to remain at the scene of a collision, one flight from police, one resisting arrest, two counts of fraud under $5,000, two impaired driving complaints, three possession of stolen property, one sexual interference complaint. As well, Killam members responded to nine calls under the Mental Health Act. The Killam Detachment reports that members have seen an increase in mental health calls for service over the last three months.
