Viking Light Parade kicks off the Christmas Season
The Town of Viking once again had a fantastic turn out for the Light Parade held on Friday, Nov. 19. Warmer than normal weather made it so the streets were lined with vehicles and people alike, all awaiting a bright and fantastic display of lighted vehicles. This year, the judges handed out the winning prizes to the top three floats. First place went to Home Hardware, with its brightly lit yellow truck. Second place went to Parrish & Heimbecker, and third went to the Viking Minor Hockey float. After the parade, a small crowd formed at Troll Park to sing some carols and watch the lighting of the tree. The towering tree will stay lit in the evenings until Christmas. From there, families could head to the Carena to have a visit and photo with Santa thanks to Viking ATB, enjoy some free hot dogs and snacks sponsored by Vision Credit Union, grab a bite to eat at the concession while listening to some musical entertainment, and then lace up some skates and go cruise around the rink for the public skating time. The Stuff the Cruiser campaign was at the front doors of the Carena, thanks to the RCMP, Beaver County Victim Services, and Viking/Beaver FCSS, where many brought donations to help those in need this holiday season.
