Lamont students pay tribute to Canadian soldiers
”At the going down of the sun, we will remember them.”
Retired MCpl. Childs Michelle Pinon Editor
On Nov 6th, during a Remembrance Day Ceremony, Lamont students took time to reflect on the sacrifice of Canadian men and women who have served, and continue to serve over land, sea, and sky to defend our rights and freedoms.
The Lamont High School gymnasium was filled with elementary, junior and senior high students as well as teachers, staff, parents, dignitaries, special guests, and community members. Principal Sharon McLean welcomed attendees, and said Remembrance Day is a time of reflection and to remember the soldiers
who fought for our shared values and freedoms. “We must take time to reflect on our freedom and the soldiers who fought for our freedom.” McLean told the crowd also to remember the Aboriginal citizens who volunteers to defend our rights and freedoms even though they weren’t classified as Canadian citizens. Morgan Fedyniak, Anna Byblow, Markus Taylor and Braydon Nimchuk paid tribute with the video “Remember the Fallen” to the late Ed Hoculak of Lamont, who served in the Second World War, and left a strong legacy of service during and after war time. Retired MCpl. Childs was one of the guest speakers for the ceremo-
ny and wanted to focus on “the little ray of light in the darkness” during his address. The crack of hope for him and other soldiers posted in Afghanistan were the hundreds of letters and postcards from students all across Canada. Grade 8 students produced a video highlighting the service of the Continued on Page 3 late Lamont soldier Ed Hoculak.
