Premier Jim Prentice swoops in to Lamont Michelle Pinon Editor
Around 100 pairs of eyes were on Premier Jim Prentice when he entered the Lamont community hall Saturday morning around 9:45 a.m. Prentice was the guest of honour at the March 7th breakfast that was hosted by the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville PC Constituency Association. Noticeably absent were representatives from the Town of Lamont, however there were elected officials from Fort Saskatchewan, Bruderheim, Chipman,
Mundare and Lamont County in attendance. Even former Premier Ed Stelmach and wife Marie were in attendance for the event. In fact, the first thing Prentice did was to formally acknowledge Ed and Marie for their sacrifice and commitment to Albertans in the past. Fort SaskatchewanVegreville MLA Jacquie Fenske introduced the dignitaries, and executive members of the local association before launching into her speech. Fenske said one of the things “we are getting ready for is the elec-
tion.” But the provincial election won’t be called until after the budget is brought down on Thursday, March 26th in the Alberta Legislature. Adam Letal introduced Alberta’s 16th Premier, and guests greeted Prentice with applause and a standing ovation. “We are where we are, and we are going to deal with the challenges that lie ahead,” stated Prentice. He also dropped a couple of cluesas to how the government plans to address the $7 billion fiscal challenge it currently faces.
