VIKING

Patricia Harcourt Editor

The 2020 graduating class at Viking School held a festive parade on Friday to mark the occasion when they originally were scheduled to hold their formal graduation. The graduates were driven along the parade route on the back of a decorated flatbed truck starting at the school, with the Viking RCMP leading the way. The first road they toured took them past Vialta Lodge, Viking Health Centre, and Extendicare-Viking before heading south on main street. People lined the streets to wave and smile, some running out to present flowers to the graduates. There was plenty of laughter along the way as family, friends, and supporters helped them celebrate the 2020 graduates on what would have been their graduation day. Dressed in informal attire for this outing, the grads are holding out in hopes of a formal graduation to take place later on when they can wear their grad outfits and celebrate with family and friends in the traditional style. This would happen only if larger social gatherings would be allowed once again as COVID-19 restrictions are loosened in the future. The parade turned at the CN Station House before going past the pharmacy and back to the school. They were followed by emergency vehicles bringing up the rear of the entourage.
