Skateboard park reopens to large crowds BY JANA SEMENIUK Kids and parents in Bruderhiem had big smiles on May 29 as the Cosmic Skate Park reopened from the COVID 19 lockdown. The Town of Bruderheim administration announced last week that the park would reopen on May 29 amid phase one reopenings across the province. Warnings for the public included, staying at least two metres away from each other, washing hands with soap and water, and staying home if you feel sick. Bruderheim residents Kayden Winslow, 12, and his brother Carter, 9, were the first ones at the park on May 29. “We got here at 9:45 in the morning,” said mom Tannis Winslow. “We were the first ones here.” She added that the opening of the skatepark was a welcome diversion from homeschooling amid the school closure. Winslow’s two children attend Bruderheim elementary school. “We are getting through it (home schooling). Picking our battles. It’s harder now because they want to be outside. It was much easier when there was still snow on the ground,” she said. “The teachers have been amazing,” she added. Small groups of children shuffled in and out of the park throughout the day, most favouring scooters over skateboards.

KIDS EXCITED TO HAVE FUN AGAIN Kids show off their skills at the first day of the Bruderheim Cosmic Skate Park reopening on May 29.
