Bruce man charged with multiple offences After finding a suspect hiding under leaves in the bushes, Two Hills detachment police have a stolen truck towed away from the scene. Patricia Harcourt Editor

Two Hills RCMP credit a police dog for tracking down a suspect hiding in the bush after a passerby alerted them of the presence of a stolen truck. After getting the alert, the RCMP “quickly attended the area where a

male abandoned the truck and ran into the bush,” reported Two Hills detachment. Once the dog and its handler went into the bush, the suspect was found hiding under cover of leaves and dirt, and with a knife at hand. Also found nearby was a bag of methamphetamine. Two Hills RCMP announced that,

as a result of the incident reported on May 25, a Bruce man has been charged with the following offences: - Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (knife); - Resisting arrest; - Breach of undertaking; - Mischief to property;

- Possession of methamphetamine; - Theft of truck; - Driving with no insurance, no registration, no licence plate, and driving while unauthorized. Michael Edward Kelm, 44, of Bruce, AB, was released on cash bail and will next appear in court June 21 in Vegreville.

Viking (Beaver County East) has one active case of COVID-19 as of May 31, with Tofield (Beaver County West) numbers veering down to eight, for a total of nine cases in Beaver County. The M.D. of Wainwright has 29 such cases, and Flagstaff County

has risen to 34 cases. The eastern part of the county has 52.3 per cent vaccinated with one dose, or 1,246 people. There are 18.5 per cent or 442 people fully vaccinated. The western half of the county has 49.2 per cent, or 3,871 people, vaccinated with one dose. Those with two doses make up 10.6 per cent or 831 people.

The statistics continue to drop provincially, and have resulted in the opening of the first stage of the Open for Summer Plan. Over the last 24 hours (as of May 31) there are 209 new cases with 438 people in hospital and 127 in intensive care. There was also one death from the virus within the past 24 hours. province, down from over 25,000 a month ago. With 4,100 tests given, the testing positivity rate was revealed to be 5.1 per cent.
