Heavy rain causes flooding, damage in Viking

A strong rain and wind storm in the early morning hours of Monday this week caused water and sewage backups and flooding in Viking, so much so that some locals said they had never seen anything like this in their lifetimes. Eastview Park campground was completely under water. Public Works Foreman Kevin O’Neill said that there was so much water along 48 Street just after the storm ended about 3 a.m. that it was up on residents’ lawns and going into basements. People living across the street from the park and soccer pitches were
using hoses to pump out their flooded basements. Sewer flooding occurred as the LIFT station could not keep up with the water flow. The entire street had been flooded for a time from the Alliance Church north up to and including the campsite, said O’Neill. The town sent out a message to limit water usage: “We are doing everything we can. Please help us out by limiting the amount of water that you put down your drain. We hope by the end of the day our sewer system will be back to normal.
