Tractor trailer flips near Hilliard BY JOHN MATHER A tractor trailer carrying a load of 20,000 cubic metres of liquid oxygen flipped over causing the closure of Highway 15 between Hilliard and Range Road 170, June 9. The accident occurred about 9:10 a.m. and special rigging trucks from Cliff’s Towing in Edmonton were brought on scene to remove the rig and the trailer. But first the oxygen had to be carefully transferred to a new trailer brought to the scene, reported Glenda Dales, Mundare Fire and Rescue Chief, whose department was also on scene on a stand-by basis. “A team from Edmonton were brought to supervise the transfer,” she said. “The gas is under pressure and any mistakes could have caused a major explosion.” She said the driver had reported seeing some deer near the highway and his rig caught the edge of the narrow

shouldered highway and he couldn’t correct it before it went over. While no injuries were reported, the highway remained closed until after 4 p.m on June 10.

Woman seriously injured in rollover BY JOHN MATHER A 21-year-old Vermilion woman was airlifted to hospital June 13, following a rollover near Highway 45 and Range Road 170. An RCMP officer working routine traffic enforcement near Andrew was flagged down and told of the accident. Emergency crews attended the scene and STARs air ambulance was called in to take the woman to hospital. While there has been no cause provided for the accident, the victim is reported to have serious injuries.

Arrest quickly follows Chipman area shooting BY JOHN MATHER A non-fatal shooting in Chipman left one man injured and led to the arrest of another on June 7. Fort Saskatchewan RCMP officers responded to a shooting at a rural home in the Chipman area. When the officers arrived, a man was found injured and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Strathcona County RCMP were called in to lend a hand and the two detachments were able to locate, arrest and charge the suspect. There was no report on where the man was apprehended but RCMP said this is not being considered a random shooting and it is believed the victim and suspect are known to each other. Kelly Dawson, 37, has been charged

with aggravated assault, unlawfully discharging a firearm, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of failing to comply with probation. Dawson was taken into custody and appeared in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on June 10. In February 2020, Dawson was charged

with several drugs and firearms violations after Two Hills RCMP and Fort Sask. Traffic/Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at a Lamont residence on Feb. 5, 2020. The victim is expected to make a full recovery. Fort Sask. RCMP General Investigation Section has taken over the investigation.
