Chase ends in RCMP shooting near Hardisty Early in the morning on Sunday, Dec. 29, shortly after 3:30, Killam RCMP were patrolling for a suspicious truck when they located it, and while trying to stop it, it rammed a police truck.

At approximately 3:15 a.m., the RCMP received a complaint about suspicious vehicles in Galahad. Patrols were made to locate them and one of the vehicles was located on Township Road 410 and Range Road 125. The RCMP tried to effect a traffic stop and the truck fled. When the RCMP located the truck again, an effort was made to stop the truck and it rammed the police truck twice.

The RCMP vehicle became inoperable.

At 5:20 p.m., the Killam RCMP, with the assistance of Provost and Wainwright RCMP and the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, were attempting to apprehend a male suspect when a confrontation occurred that resulted in RCMP officers discharging their service weapons.

Prior to this, the RCMP were pursuing a suspect vehicle on Highway 13 near Hardisty. The vehicle was believed to be the same vehicle involved in an earlier incident with the Killam RCMP. Several tire deflation devices were used in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle went into the ditch and a male got out of the vehicle. The confrontation followed.

The adult male was treated on scene by EMS and transported to an Edmonton hospital in serious condition.

The RCMP members involved were not injured.

The male was the sole occupant of the truck.

As of 8:55 p.m., the area of Hwy 881 to RR 95 on Highway 13 was closed, and reopened on Monday, Dec. 30 at 4:15 p.m.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances

surrounding the officer involved shooting and the actions of police. The RCMP will continue to investigate the actions of the man and the events leading up to the confrontation with police.

The Alberta RCMP will not be commenting further on this incident. All media inquiries about this incident should now be directed to ASIRT at 780-641-9099.

During a search in Galahad for reported suspicious vehicles, one was located, and while RCMP members tried to issue a traffic stop, the suspect rammed into the RCMP truck multiple times, rendering it inoperable.

Highway 13 remained closed from Hwy 881 to RR 95 from the evening hours of Sunday, Dec, 29, until the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 30.

Coronation RCMP Forestburg Concert respond to fatal fire eries

On Monday, Dec. 16, Coronation RCMP attended the scene of a residential fire on Victoria Avenue in Coronation.

Police responded to the fire at approximately 11 a.m., along with Coronation Fire Department.

An adult female was located inside the resi-

dence and taken to hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing by the Office of the Fire Commissioner and RCMP. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Break-and-enter at Coutts Viking RCMP On December 21, members assisted Killam RCMP with a break and enter at the Coutts Home Hardware store in Forestburg.

Two male suspects were seen

leaving the hardware store and travelling in a green truck.

Extensive patrols were made however the vehicle was not located.

Killam RCMP are still investigating this break and enter.

My reminder of what is important Our family spent a lot of time this Christmas thinking about my Dad and attending to his needs. Nothing unites a family like a sick family member, and despite how terrible his situation was, it brought together the people who love him at the exact time of year where that seems just a little bit more important than usual.

For us this Christmas season, the illness of my father and the absence of my mother both united our family and also reminded us of how the death of a single family member changes things forever.

You see, my Dad would never have gotten this sick if my Mom was still alive. Moms are like that. I am sure most of us have, or have had, a Mom like mine. She organized everything. She attended to everyone’s needs. She did all the little things that nobody even realized fully until she was no longer there to do them, and the whole time in complete anonymity.

Mom would have sent Dad to the doctor’s office months ago. But Mom has been gone 10 years now.

So, a typical man’s man from his era, Dad was just about on his deathbed before calling an ambulance and seeing his doctor. The whole thing was a complete surprise to my sister and I, though we speak to him at least weekly. He never once complained.

Because Mom was no longer there, the old “cowboy” (at heart) knew there were things going wrong with his old tired body but figured he’d just tough it out. I know that seems crazy to younger people these days, but this old crew had some tough hombres and going to a doc without losing a limb seemed fatuous.

So there we all were, at one time or another, at the hospital or having meals together. Reminiscing.

My sister lives in Northern Ireland and we hadn’t seen her in three years. My nephews, her sons, nobody had seen in months or even years. My young boys are a foot taller than the last time some of the relatives had seen them. My oldest son and wife, people hadn’t seen in ages. Those were happy moments at a scary time.

One of the saddest things I can ever remember was 10 years ago, standing next to Mom’s palliative care bed. In a wispy voice, she said: “Oh, darn! I wanted to see the boys grow up,” meaning her seven grandsons.

Every reader who has lost their mom knows the feeling of wanting to reach for a phone to tell Mom when a family member has had an accomplishment - no matter how small - until the sudden hesitation of realizing she is no longer here.

Dad’s getting better now, just growing old, as we all are. In 2020, I hope to cherish family memories a little more often as I too grow older.

This Christmas was a good reminder of that.

LETTER Dear Editor: We are now in the final month of 2019 - a year of world wide extremes - both political and environmental.

Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions were more extreme than usual, which tells us the earth's molten and gaseous interior is under extreme pressure.

However, I haven't heard scientific concern that these may be one cause for ocean warming, especially the Hawaii one that spewed lava for weeks. I don't feel a need to delve in other concerns I have about climate change rhetoric. Ian Erickson does a great job of painting the other side of the climate change story.

The recent federal election revealed extreme differences of opinion of how well the Liberals governed over the past four years. It also invalidated PM Trudeau's frequent assertions that "we must uphold these values that all Canadians share," and "diversity makes us stronger." It was his style of "managing our diversity" which severed the ties that held our nation together. It was very encouraging to see the premiers come together to seek ways to undo the damage and find a better path forward.

"Predictions:" It seems that the year 20150 will be significant; too bad many of us won't be here to celebrate it. That is when we must eliminate all carbon emissions - when the Liberals will cease adding to the deficit and balance the budget - the year when all Arctic ice will be melted. (No mention of the Antarctic

ice which is currently expanding so quickly it endangers penguins' ability to fish). The prediction for this winter milder than normal! (Skiers won't like it!)

But wait! Last April Environment Canada predicted above average temps and below normal precipitation - just the opposite occurred! Brings to mind the old adage, "The only ones who try to predict the weather are newcomers or fools!"

Which has now been expanded to include "those with a special agenda."

In our diverse culture, there are different views about the creation of this vast universe that includes Planet Earth. I believe in God as the creator, and that he is better equipped to manage our climate than scientists who are still striving to understand the complexity he created. I also believe the severity of our climate by be God's way of trying to get our attention and to encourage us to adopt his guidelines for good living, with love of ourselves, our families and our neighbours. (I can freely express my faith because I'm not seeking to be prime minister). As for teenage activists demanding that we "save the planet for their future," I say teenagers should try harder to save themselves for their future by avoiding the addictive lifestyles that are promoted under the "Trudeau version" of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, to indulge with little responsibility for dire consequences.

Sedgewick council approves arena roof fix Town of Sedgewick Council approved a temporary fix to the arena roof issue at a special meeting held on Dec. 30.

The job was awarded to Premier Fire and Flood Restoration Inc. Premier will manage the project and work with Phoenix Roofing as well as a structural engineer to add additional purlins that will allow for the arena to open for full use in a matter of weeks.

The work is de-

signed to bring the structure up to current Alberta Building Code standards of allowing for a load of 34 pounds per square foot (psf) versus 29 psf which was code when the rink was built in 1992.

Council expects the temporary fix to be a part of the permanent solution which will be planned to align with a future offseason when the arena would have less users.

It is unknown at this

point when these permanent repairs will be made as it will be largely dependent on ability to finance the project as well as regular monitoring/testing of the purlins.

Minor Hockey Report: Thunderstars Atoms beat Westlock 11-2 Kerry Anderson These are some of the results from the Northern Alberta Interlock Minor Hockey League games held recently. (Please note that scores and scoring is taken from the website, and some game scores and scoring is dependent on proper league entries.)

Battle River Female Atom Knights skated (3-6-2) to a 3-3 tie at Vermilion on Dec. 20.

BR fought back from a 2-0 first period deficit and 3-1 second period deficit.

Destiny Castagna scored the game tying goal with 5:24 remaining in the third period. Emma Galletly scored the other two goals for BR, and picked up an assist.

Maddison Eckstrand made 17 saves in goal for BR. Battler River Female Peewee Knights (5-4-2) dropped a 7-3 game at Vermilion on Dec. 21.

The home team scored three in the opening frame before the visi-

tors finally got on the scoreboard, and could not catch up. Cabrie Tanton, Caylin Brumwell, and Paige Zimmer scored for BR. Erika Zimmer and Berkley Muirhead picked up assists.

No Novice boys scores are posted.

Battle River Tier 1 Atoms (4-5-3) lost a 6-1 game at Whitecourt on Dec. 20, with Ryder Forster scoring the lone BR goal. Assist went to Micaiah Schmidt. Two days later in Drayton Valley, BR played to a 44 tie. Down 3-1 after one, and 4-2 after two, late goals by Seth Edwards and Linden Tuftin (shorthanded) tied the game in the final three minutes. For Linden, it was his second goal in a threepoint game. Beau Burden also had threepoints (1g 2a). Seth also picked up an assist, as did Ryder Forster. Brett Swainson was in goal for the tie.

Tips for fuelling outdoor equipment James Cox Student Reporter With many outdoor power tools such as lawnmowers and leaf blowers going into storage, and with many more coming out of storage to aid in the coming winter, it is good to be aware of proper fueling and storage practices for your equipment.

The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) provides tips on how to properly fuel and store your equipment. These tips will help to maintain your equipment and ensure

that it performs as well as possible.

OPEI recommends reading the owner’s manual for proper fuelling of your equipment, including proper procedure and type of fuel.

Fuel should not sit in the tank for more than 30 days, unless a fuel stabilizer has been used.

If left, untreated gasoline can deteriorate, which may cause problems with the equipment running, and can also gum up the carburetor.

Bashaw armed robber flees on snowmobile On Dec. 20, 2019, the Bashaw RCMP launched an investigation into an armed robbery at the ATB Financial Agency. The alleged robber fled on a snowmobile.

On Dec. 23, a male who was in custody at the Ponoka RCMP Detachment on an unrelated investigation was identified as the suspect.

On Dec. 24, the Bashaw RCMP with the assistance of Ponoka RCMP General Investigation Section obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s rural property which is east of Ponoka. The search warrant was executed through the night into Dec. 25, 2019, by the Bashaw RCMP with the assistance of members from Ponoka and Maskwacis Detachments. Evidence linking the suspect to the armed robbery was collected.

Michael Allan Richter (40) of Ponoka has been charged with 10 criminal offences in relation to the armed

robbery including; robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2), possession of a firearm while prohibited, fail to comply with a Probation Order (x2). At the time of his arrest, Richter was wanted on outstanding warrants for other matters.

“Bad gas can be old gas, gas with water in it, or farm gas that has dye added.

“In the case of fuel that is mixed with oil in a 40:1 or 50:1 mix, people often do not get the right mix.”

Coutts adds, “The cost of using fuel stabilizer is small compared to the frustration of a

engine not starting properly or taking it in to have the carb cleaned.

“I have had numerous customers bring a piece of power equipment that does not run in and I have dumped the gas and put in quality new fuel in and the machine starts in three pulls.”

His best advice is, “At the end of the season make sure you use fuel stabilizer so that even the fuel that is in your carb will not get old and gum it up.”

Stettler RCMP investigate threats Stettler RCMP apprehended two males following a report from a concerned parent that there might be a shooting at the Wm E Hay Stettler Secondary Campus.

On Dec. 20, at 10:34 a.m., the RCMP received a complaint from a parent who relayed information that the day prior, two students were overhead talking about shooting up the school.

The RCMP responded to the school and collaborated with the school administration. A lock down was implemented at three schools; the Wm E Hay Stettler Secondary Campus, Stettler Elementary School, and Christ King Catholic School while the RCMP made efforts to locate the two males.

The two involved males attended the Stettler RCMP Detachment on their accord.

The lockdown at the school was lifted shortly after noon.

The investigation into this complaint remains underway by the RCMP. It has not been determined that this was a credible threat. Any concern relating to safety at school is always treated as a real threat until proven otherwise.

January Daysland firefighters were called out Monday, Jan. 7, to help put out and save the Daysland Hotel building on main street. The Daysland Fire Department, along with the Killam Fire Department, were unsuccessful in putting the fire out and focused on keeping the adjacent buildings from going up in flames as well.

Flagstaff’s Initiative for Spousal and Relationship Trauma (FIRST) has changed their name, but keeping the acronym, to Flagstaff’s Informed Response Sharing Team. They will unveil the new logo at the 21st Annual FIRST Supper and Auction.

The new Wild Rose Co-op Liquor Store opened in Killam, next door to the Wild Rose Co-op food store, with their grand opening slated for January 17.

Flagstaff County Council balances their 2019 budget by making some deep cuts.

Linda Carrier and Anita McGowan, along with other local contributors, assembled a special quilt in honour of their brothers Reg and Ernie Palmer, both transplant patients who received transplants because other people signed their organ donation cards. The quilt was donated to the Killam Hospital.

Daysland Arena received a grant from the Battle River Community Foundation Donald and Mary Ann Pfeffer fund.

Killam Fire Department held its annual Fire Department Social to recognize and thank the volunteers of the department, along with their spouses and partners for their contribution to the department as well. No pins were handed out that evening, but a surprise visit was made to Ken Fleck the previous day to give him his 40-year service pin.

The Super Blood Wolf Moon made an appearance during the evening of Saturday, Jan. 21. This event was a

total lunar eclipse, making the moon appear blood red. It was the first full moon of January, which is called a Wolf Moon. The moon was also at its closest point to Earth’s orbit, which is called a Supermoon.

A two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 13 just outside of Sedgewick on Monday, Jan. 21 claimed the life of local Sedgewick man.

The Sedgewick Sabres and Forestburg Flyers of the East Central Senior Hockey League dominated the first round of the playoffs, with the Flyers playing the Delburne Outlaws, and the Sabres playing the Oyen Eagles.

Daysland Northstars surging up the NCHL standings Emily Tanton Student Reporter

The Daysland Northstars won two out of two games over the holidays, amassing 12 goals over the two games. On Friday, Dec. 20, the Northstars hosted the Bonnyville Pontiacs and beat them by a score of 7-1. The following day saw the Northstars at home again, facing the Westlock Warriors and coming away with another win, 5-2 was the score by the end.

Throughout the game on Dec. 20, the North-

stars controlled the puck well, and though they finished the game with less shots, they had clearly capitalized on what opportunities they did have.

Drew Fleury of the Pontiacs stopped 41 of 48 shots brought on by the Northstars, while Daysland’s goalie Connor Dobberthien stopped an incredible 50 of 51 shots.

Daysland started the scoring frenzy late in the first, but once momentum was established, they managed a quick three goals before the period was up.

Ryley Bennefield scored the first goal for the Northstars with passes from Dillan McCombie and Austin Lightning.

Kenny Bradley was the next to put a puck in the net thanks to a display of puck control by from Matthew Foster and McCombie.

Zach Ayotte finished the period with a goal that put the Northstars ahead 3-0.

Bennefield came through for Daysland in the second, scoring two more goals which landed him with a hat trick for the game.

Other second period scorers were Zaine Walker and Brad Trautman, with a Pontiac goal being scored between the two.

The third period held nothing but penalties for the Northstars, and by the sound of the final buzzer, no goals were scored in the third and so the game was finished with a score of 7-1.

Saturday, Dec. 21, was a closer game for the Northstars, and they kept consistent with game before, coming away with less shots than the other

team.

Northstars’ goalie Garret Montour stopped 46 of the 48 shots he saw, while five of the Northstars’ 41 shots on the Warriors made it past the goalie.

The first period was a back and forth game for the two teams, Northstars’ Cloutier and Walker scored the two goals for their team, with a Warriors’ goal being scored immediately after each of Daysland’s.

The 2-2 tie was broken in the second thanks to Daysland’s Cam Dion and a pass

from his linemate Brad Trautman, and the period ended with the one-goal lead for the Northstars.

Austin Buffalo was finally successful in the third after a hardfought first two periods.

Winter Road Maintenance: Roadways are cleared of snow as necessary. During normal winter conditions, County gravel roads should be cleared of snow within four days, unless there is heavy snow and persistent winds.

One plow truck is designated to remove snow and apply sand/salt to oil and paved surface roads. Two graders are allocated for snow and ice removal on MG30 roads.

Back roads or blind roads will not be plowed unless deemed necessary by Public Works.

Wheat Kings lose two at the hands of the Wainwright Bisons Student Reporter

The Killam Wheat Kings faced off against the first-place Wainwright Bisons twice over the holidays, losing both games in tight scores.

The Friday, Dec. 20, game was on the road for the Wheat Kings, and started off with two quick goals for Wainwright. The scoring streak was ended by Killam’s Braydan Davis and the period ended 31 in favour of the Bisons.

The second period saw no goals for the Wheat Kings, however, it lacked no action with three fights ensuing in the span of five minutes.

Carter Ortman was dragged into a fight by instigator Cole Johnson, Tim Lynes then instigated a fight three minutes later with Keagan Watchel, and then Lynes’ brother Grant followed suit and received a roughing

minor a minute later. A total of 46 penalty minutes were handed out between the six men who engaged in fights in the second period.

The third period was a little more successful for the Wheat Kings, where they managed to score two goals. Dalton Zemanek scored a goal thanks to passes from Ashton Cookson and Tanner Eno, and Kobe Charchun scored the third goal for the Wheaties with passes from Grant Lynes and Cookson.

Unfortunately, the two goals were too little too late and the game ended 6-3 in favour of the Wainwright Bisons.

On Saturday, Dec. 21, the Wheat Kings hosted the Bisons in a game that ended in a shootout. This was an impressive feat for Killam as the Bisons doubled Killam’s shots.

Brendan Davis managed to save an impressive 50 of 54 shots from the Bisons, while Wainwright’s goalie only

needed to save 22 of 26 shots from Killam.

The Wheat Kings finished the first period up two thanks to goals from Tanner Eno and Chad Bonnett.

Their lead did not last long in the second, however, as the Bisons scored four goals in an eight-minute barrage of 30 shots. Fortunately, Dalton Zemanek managed a last-second goal thanks to linemates Braydan Davis and Brendan Erick.

The Wheat Kings were down by one going into the third, but Zemanek was quick to tie the game, and that tie was sustained until the end of the third.

The over-time period saw no succes for either team, and so the game went to a shoot-out where, after a game of constant shots, Brendan Davis was unable to save one last shot.

The game ended 5-4 for the Bisons, but not without the Wheat Kings posing a threat to the Bisons’ winning

streak.

Killam has two home games this weekend,

Friday, they will be facing the Wainwright Bisons for a final time in

regular season, and the other game is against Cold Lake on Saturday.

March Hardisty’s Hanna Chilson won a gold medal on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Alpine Skiing Para Female Slalom with a time of 1:24.06 on her first run, and 1:20.70, with a total of 2:44.76, almost four seconds faster than the silver medalist. The day before, Chilson took a bronze in the Giant Slalom Para Female Event.

Lacey Jacobsen, of Sedgewick,was the recipient of the Alberta Equestrian Federation Award for outstanding athlete/rider of the year. There were over 50 nominations and only seven awards given to the most deserving candidates.

Alberta Transport proposed an amendment to the speed limits on Highway 13 at Killam to Flagstaff County Council at their Feb. 13 meeting. The amendment is for the west side of town on Highway 13, approximately 400 metres, to lower the limit from 100 km/hr to 70 km/hr.

After a long hockey game that was held in Lloydminster, with the Bandits beating the Killam Wheat Kings 5 to 4, the Lloydminster RCMP were notified of a fight at the arena. Two referees were assaulted in the change room after the game by family members of a player in the game.

CIVIX Canada hosted an Alberta-wide student vote along with the 2019 Alberta Provincial Election, with 170,000 students participating.

The 4-H Foundation of Alberta is looking to award $80,000 in scholarship funds for 2019 thanks to The Elmer and Ona Hansen Memorial Fund.

The Hardisty Auxiliary celebrated another Volunteen program graduation on Wednesday, May 1, with 11 program graduates this year. Students are from all over the area, such as Irma and Killam. This program has been running for 40 years and has produced many graduates who have gone on to pursue careers in the healthcare field.

It is reported that the new Camrose Constituency has beat the province in elector turnout, at 71.6 per cent, compared to 64 per cent of Alberta voters overall.

Project Care-A-Van is once again seeking donations for a new van. Flagstaff’s Informed Response Sharing team has taken on the project along side Campbell Mclennan Chrysler to provide a community van to the residents of Flagstaff who need frequent medical treatments out of the county. The goal is to raise $30,000 to continue with this service.

Flagstaff County continued to support the Active Living for Seniors Conference, which was held in Daysland on Wednesday, June 5. Special guest speaker was Carole Anne Devaney from Global Edmonton News, her topic being “Seniors: a wealth of stories.”

OBITUARY Dorothy-Jean Fern Thorburn (Caruth)

With great sadness we announce that DorothyJean Fern Thorburn (Caruth) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 21 at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton, AB. She re-joined her parents Samuel and Dorothy Caruth, brother Ken (Gladys) Caruth, and sister Shirley (Bernie) Shihinski.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by Glen Thorburn, her husband of 54 years, her daughters Shauna (Bill) McKenney, Jeannine (Tho) Nguyen, Roxanne (Glen) Brown, her ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her sisters Ilene (Ivan) Tschritter and Lillian (Dennis) Christensen.

Dorothy was born on May 29, 1945, in Killam, AB, where she grew up on the family farm.

She got her first job in 1962 as a telephone switchboard operator and always spoke proudly of how proficient she was at it and how much she enjoyed it.

In 1965 she married Glen, had their first of three daughters and moved to St. Albert in 1968 to start their new life together.

From this point on she dedicated her life to being the best wife and mother that she could be.

She took great pleasure in constantly providing her family with delicious meals and an immaculately clean home.

She always had a genuine affection for small children and as her children grew up she decided to provide child care in her home for other families and eventually started working in the nursery at the local daycare center where she filled her need for babies.

Once her children

started moving out her career choice changed from managing children to managing properties and she moved to Edmonton where she put her cleaning skills to the test by managing a very large apartment complex.

After doing this for several years, a job opportunity came, and with it, the promise of milder winters so they moved to Medicine Hat in 1984, and except for a time in Kinuso and Strome, they remained there until early 2019 when they decided to return to their roots and moved to Killam.

After retirement, Dorothy found great comfort in the simple things in life. She was always very humble and enjoyed spending special time with her family, quiet time with her cat and a good book, and crocheting blankets for all of her loved ones or toques for the babies at the local hospital.

She loved making people laugh and would do the silliest things to get a laugh out of her grand-

children. She enjoyed travelling with Glen and was especially fond of Ireland and visited there on many occasions.

She always put the needs of others before her own and would give unconditionally to anyone in need.

In the early seventies she was diagnosed with a very rare skin condition and because it was so rare she decided in 1973 to donate her body to scientific research in hopes of helping others with the same condition.

Because of this, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.

Sedgewick Sabres take the win in Forestburg over holidays Emily Tanton Student Reporter

Hockey over the holidays in the East Central Senior Hockey League was a slough of hard losses and close victories.

The Hughenden Jets suffered two blowout losses at the hands of the Provost Combines and the Coronation Royals. The Sabres

and the Flyers went head to head, with the Sabres pulling a win in a shootout.

The Jets went on the road to Provost on Friday, Dec. 20, where, after three periods of struggling to control the puck, they scored two goals to the Combines’ eight.

After an 8-2 loss the day before, the Jets then faced

off against the Coronation Royals, a game that didn’t end in Hughenden’s favour.

Down 10-0 going into the third, the Jets scored their first two goals in a desperate attempt to close the large gap. When the Royals scored another goal to make the game 11-2, hope was lost and that was how the game ended.

The much anticipated Sabres vs. Flyers game on Saturday, Dec. 21, brought just as much excitement as fans were expecting.

The Flyers scored a consistent one goal per period, while the Sabres scored two in the second and then one in the third, tying the game at the last minute to send it into over-time.

After five minutes of back

and forth in over-time, the game was sent to a shootout after the teams were unsuccessful in putting the puck in the net.

The Sabres started out behind, but shone in the shoot-out and managed to take the only game the two teams had over the holidays by a score of 4-3.

The Hughenden Jets and Forestburg Flyers will be

the first Flagstaff teams to be playing in the New Year, with both teams playing in their home arena on Saturday, Jan. 4.

The Jets will be playing the Consort Comets, hoping to do better than over the break. The Flyers will be hosting the Oyen Eagles, looking to advance from their fifth place in the league standings.
