Killam Station Fire Chief awarded 30-year service pin at gala Leslie Cholowsky Editor

FRESS-Killam Station Chief Joe Knievel received his 30-year service pin during Killamʼs annual gala, held Friday, Jan 6. Knievel (above left) received the pin from Deputy Chief Rick Krys, who was also recognized during the evening.

There was a lot to celebrate at this year’s firefighters’s gala for the FRESS - Killam Station, held Friday, Jan. 6, in Killam. Fire Chief Joe Knievel received his 30-year service pin at the gala, along with recognition from the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association for 15 years service as Chief. Knievel handed out service awards to firefighter Dylan Eskra, marking his 10-service milestone, and Kyle Andrews received his five-year service pin. Firefighter Victor Waldner was also recognized for five years. Three new members were also recognized. They are firefighters Kyla Baranowski, Rami Farraj, and Haley Mock. Baranowski also received recognition for passing her Basic Fireground Operations course. Deputy Chief Rick Krys was recognized by the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association for five years as Deputy. Chief Knievel addressed the assembled firefighters, saying “Tonight is a time for our members, their partners, and other guests to meet, socialize, and honour those who are celebrating a milestone with Killam Fire and Rescue.” Knievel noted that the first year operating under the Flagstaff Regional Emergency Services Society (FRESS) has been very successful, allowing all firefighters to become more of a united group throughout the region.
