Kinsella Christmas Market a big hit Patricia Harcourt Editor
A colourful display of vendors with a wide variety of wares for sale gave shoppers a large variety of items from which to choose at the Kinsella Christmas Market last weekend. And after a two-year break, the market came back strong this year. The Kinsella Community Hall was full of vendors selling many different kinds of items, often handmade, like antiques, arts and crafts, clothing, jewellery and other accessories, sewing and crocheting, blankets, baking, canning, desserts, personal care, and specialty items. “I think it went wonderfully,” said one enthusiastic organizer, Sherrie Welch. “Everybody was super happy. The weather turned out wonderfully for the market.” As for the 20 or so vendors, “a lot of those we never had before,” she said, with four or five having returning from previous Kinsella markets. “But the rest were new.” Onstage, there was a craft area for the kids to play, photos to take with “Sleepy Santa,” and classic Christmas movies to watch. Many enjoyed the turkey stew, hot dogs, drinks, and snacks available at the concession over the two day market. Sunday morning a pancake breakfast was held from 10 a.m.
to 12 noon with pancakes donated by P&H. Coffee was served free all day on Sunday for all to enjoy. Also, there was turkey pot pie was available with proceeds going to God’s Acre Cemetery. People coming to enjoy the market could contribute to a food hamper and a toy hamper to help out local individuals and families. “This would have been our fifth Christmas market,” said Welch, but due to COVID-19 the market couldn’t be held for two years. “The last market we had was in 2019 so this is actually our third market.” The Raptor Rehabilitation Centre was present Saturday afternoon with two birds. There was a “meet and greet” with Ostarius, a Red-Tailed hawk, and a chance to get a picture taken with the bird. The centre also held a ‘Secrets of Raptors’ presentation with their Great Horned Owl, ’Mama Muffin’ on display. The two-day market event was hosted by Kinsella Marketplace. “It was a wonderful place to get your one-of-a-kind Christmas shopping done,” said Welch, who, along with Shelyce Morrison, worked to make the market so successful. Both were also vendors. This not for profit market showcases local business and other vendors with the help of new, used, home made, and home grown products for holiday shoppers.
The Kinsella Christmas Market was a big hit this year with about 20 vendors, two-thirds of which were new to the event, selling a variety of different wares to help holiday shoppers find those special items. Santa Claus was also there, and a presentation by the Raptor Rehabilitation Centre. PATRICIA HARCOURT PHOTOS
