Robbery attempt foiled by quickthinking employee Leslie Cholowsky Editor with files from Corporal Trent Cleveland

For the period from Nov. 29 to Dec. 11, the Killam RCMP members had 88 complaints, with 50 of those coming in the last week. An employee of the Many Horses Saloon in Forestburg ended up with minor injuries after foiling a robbery attempt on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The employee was closing up the bar for the evening when a knock came on the back door. When opened, the employee was faced with a knife-wielding suspect who attempted to gain entrance to the business. The suspect swung the knife around while the employee attempted to close the door, resulting in a minor injury. The employee was able to successfully lock the intruder out; it is believed the suspect then fled on foot. The suspect is described as possibly female, wearing a pink ‘Many Horses Saloon’ hat, with a black jacket and grey sweat pants. Police are still investigating, with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta General Investigation Section with gathering evidence. Members were required to attend four different 911 misdials, from Forestburg, Lougheed, Flagstaff County rural, and Killam. Three abandoned vehicle complaints were made, police found none of the three to be criminal in nature. Members dealt with two animal calls. The first was regarding a dog complaint; and police continue to investigate. The second call was a moose that had been hit by a vehicle. A complaint of assault arose from a physical altercation between a landlord and tenant and is presently under investigation. Members attended a complaint of assault in Hardisty; parties involved were not cooperative and there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a charge. Members were asked to assist EMS with access to a home, but were called off before they arrived. A breach of the peace complaint was made due to a verbal altercation in Amisk. Members attended and deescalated the situation. Members were called to attend an establishment in Killam where patrons were refusing to leave. Alcohol was involved. A complaint of breaching a no-contact order is being investigated by RCMP, it is potentially a civil, not criminal, matter. See RCMP P17

Critters’ hi-jinx loads of fun in Hardisty

JAYDEN LESMEISTER PHOTOS

When the Critters hit the Gibson Energy Centre in Hardisty to take on the Stampeders and Longhorns Alumni fans were expecting nothing less than hilarity and neither team disappointed. Above: When the Critter went down, the poor Hardisty player responsible was dogpiled and disrobed, right down to his pink frilly underwear... wait, what? See more photos Pg 26.
