The Viking Legion held its First Annual Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 14. From 9 a.m. to noon, everyone was welcome to come and enjoy pancakes, sausages and eggs in the festive old-fashioned atmosphere of the Legion Hal where family and friends could visit together.

Holden Village Council approved a two per cent wage increase for Village councillors and employees at their last regular meeting held Monday, Nov. 17, effective Jan. 1, 2026. “Normally, Council gives staff a cost of living increase annually,” Chief Administrative Officer Rosemary Offrey said. “According to the Consumer Price Index, the cost of living increase is
expected to be at 2.4 per cent. I'm recommending that Council would give staff a two per cent increase that would keep us close to the level of the cost of living increase that will happen,” she said. Mayor Carl Marsh asked why the Request for Decision (RFD) was separate from the budget and Offrey said because the COLA would be put into effect in the new year. “It's separate because we need to know this now, because it would start in January, instead of waiting until April when the budget is passed,” she
said. One of the benefits listed in the RFD for approving the COLA was that “it will help keep the staff and Council remuneration at a reasonable rate compared to the region” as well as “deciding not to provide a COLA is not recommended due to causing a dent in the morale of the staff and Council members.” Councillor Alan Ramshaw moved that Council approve the two per cent COLA for staff and Council, which was passed.
