Alliance hosts many visitors for annual Santa Daze Diane Dammann Alliance P. 780-879-3970 E. petendia@gmail.com

The Legion had the Christmas party on Thursday evening following the meeting. The attendance was rather poor since so many had other appointments that day. The Senior group will have appetizers to share after the meeting on Tuesday. Women’s Institute will have the annual meeting on Wednesday, followed by the year end party. Guests are invited. Saturday was a great day to be in Alliance. The weather was great. I talked to some folks who came on the train. They were from Winfield and were meeting up with family from Wainwright. There were people from Calgary, Edmonton, and of course the neighbouring towns, too. The community calen-

dars arrived in time to be distributed at the market, thanks to Ally and Eric of The Community Press. There were a few changes to this year’s Santa Daze. There was a smaller tree in the hall (Don’t know what happened to the big one). The turkey toss became the turkey bowl with a turkey for a prize, but a ball bowled to the target. The cookie decorating was moved out of the way of the kitchen. A tarp was hung to create a wind break beside the bonfire. There was no skating because there was no ice because the weather was too nice. The market was the same, opening at 10 a.m. and running to 4 p.m. A full train came in at 2 p.m. with 90 passengers. Santa met the train. There were two hay wagons to transport to the hall and the sports grounds and back again. Santa had a treat bag for every child. The kids loved decorating cookies and eating them too. The turkey bowl was burg. No surveillance. No witnesses or suspects. Thursday, Nov. 30 RCMP executed a Search warrant for stolen property in Daysland. An item recovered and Subject charged with possession of stolen property. A vehicle at the neighboring property fled upon police arrival. Member attempted a traffic stop. Vehicle fled at high speed. No pursuit. Fish and Wildlife requested assistance with a report of poaching. Subject was reported cutting up a moose that was shot without a tag. Member attended and waited for Fish and Wildlife to attend. The Flagstaff County Crime Map provides an up-to-date picture of common crimes perpetrated in the area over a two-week period, including Mischief to Property, Break and Enter, Theft from Motor Vehicle, Theft of Motor Vehicle, and Theft over $5,000. Flagstaff County hosts access to the site, which can be found at: flagstaff.ab.ca/countyservices/protective-service/ Report provided and prepared by Killam RCMP

won by more children than adults. Most adults rolled the ball too fast and it overshot the target. At five o’clock the streetlights were turned off and the Parade of Lights went from the old school grounds, around a block and down Main Street to the Sports Grounds. There were 12 entries. The winning float was TP Hardware. The dance studio and Main Street Medley also had winning floats.

There was chili as an option to the free hot dogs and hot chocolate. The bonfire was at the perfect stage for roasting wieners. The fireworks were purchased by the Legion and made a great display for us to watch while we ate our hot dogs. Immediately following the fireworks, the fire dancers put on their display. The hay wagons arrived to take the passengers back to the

train, happy and tired. While the incoming passengers toured the town, the locals could take a ride to Galahad and back for a donation, which went to the museum. It was the museum that supplied the free hot dogs. The second Sunday in Advent was marked with the lighting of the second candle on the Advent wreath at the United Church. Dell Wickstrom and Dale Jones did the

service. The Community Christmas Concert is coming on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the United Church where the acoustics are very good. If you would like to be on the program, give me a call at 780-385-1483. Welcome to Alliance Dan and Diane Prins, who came from Grand Forks to buy Susan Anderson’s house. Dan is a carpenter and Diane is a health care worker.
