Saturday, Aug. 21, brought the third annual Gathering of the Clans to Sedgewick, and what a gathering it was. The event featured all things Scottish, including three pipe and drum bands, featuring the Battle River Pipe and Drum as they marched in the dignitaries for the opening ceremonies.
The ceremonies featured welcoming remarks from Damien Kurek, incumbant MP of Battle River Crowfoot, Camrose MLA Jackie Lovely, and Sedgewick Mayor Perry Robinson. The gathering named a new chieftan in a special ceremony, as Grant Imlah took over the role. The vendor village featured a great number of unique wares, including some local vendors, while the food trucks provided a grand repast, even of-
fering Haggis pastries, if one was so inclined. There was much to do for all ages, including some new events this year, like mini-golf. The Highland Dancers showed off their skills, while a group of intrepid amateurs bravely tried their hand at the Highland Games events, including heavy weights thrown straight up into the air, the caber toss, which literally
translate into tossing a tree, and the hammer throw. There was music provided all day in the curling rink, including a performance from Leanne Ball. The evening ended with a pig roast followed by a Ceilidh (dance). The entire event was a feat of miracles, pulled off in mere weeks where the previous gatherings had a whole year of planning behind them.
