Beaver Emergency Services Commission (BESC) has issued a fire advisory for all of Beaver County including the towns, villages and hamlets within its boundaries. The advisory has been put in place due to “an unusually dry grass fire season upon us,” stated BESC. “It is paramount that we use caution with any open burning within the county and municipalities.” Southeast of Beaver County, the County of Camrose has also issued a fire advisory, but so far there has been no advisory or ban for Flagstaff County to the south or the M.D. of Wainwright to the west. To the north, fire restrictions are now in place for the County of Minburn, County of Lamont, County of Two Hills and County of Vermilion River. Over the weekend, temperatures dropped and a smattering of snow fell on Sunday to temporarily carpet the dry, brown lawns and fields but was gone by the next day. But as of Monday, the fire advisory was still in place. “BESC is continuing to monitor weather and wind conditions and further fire restrictions may be imposed quickly,” stated BESC management. “We are evaluating each fire permit application carefully and only allowing those fires that have an adequate water supply and are continuously supervised to proceed.” Visit the provincial website www. albertafirebans.ca to get up to date information on the status of jurisdictions. Any outdoor burning within Beaver County requires a burning permit, which can be obtained at the towns of Viking and Tofield, the villages of Holden and Ryley, and the Beaver County office in Ryley, the BESC office in Viking, or all local fire chiefs
