From the Principal Our generous community 2025 marked a year of significant investment for the Carey community. Under the direction of our Board, Carey acquired the Blackhall property from Preshil, building upon the 2024 acquisition of the adjoining title, Kalimna. Both the Blackhall and Kalimna properties border our Kew campus and help form part of a broader masterplan to ensure our offerings, including physical spaces, remain relevant, student-focussed and enable the best possible educational opportunities.
These properties were purchased through favourable long-term loans, ensuring that school fees continue to be directed towards your child’s education rather than building developments. In 2025, thanks to the community’s giving, we were able to commence significant upgrades to Camp Toonallook, our outdoor education campus on the Banksia Peninsula. This was made possible by you, our generous community, who raised $100,000 through your kind donations.

From the Chair of the Advancement Committee Thank you for your support in 2025 Giving at Carey continues to flourish year after year, and 2025 was no exception. I am delighted to share our Impact of Giving Report, which highlights the incredible generosity and spirit of our community throughout the past year. In 2025, contributions to the School came in many meaningful forms. In particular, we are proud to report that: • seven Access and Equity Scholarships have been funded, helping students thrive through needs-based assistance thanks to the support of our community • 313 families made a voluntary contribution through their school fees, and we awarded the very first scholarship from this initiative. Read Angel’s inspiring story on page 5 • Camp Toonallook received a significant uplift, made possible by donations from parents and alumni in this year’s Community Giving Appeal • our archives collection expanded, with 380 new artefacts donated by 26 contributors, including a commemorative rowing oar from the 1985 Boys First VIII Crew’s Head of the River win. Thank you to everyone who contributed in 2025 in so many ways. We are very grateful. Your support continues to shape the future of Carey and enrich the lives of our students.

A life-changing gift Voluntary fee contributions In 2023 Carey introduced an optional $200 donation each term on fee statements, with 100% of the funds received directed to support needs-based scholarships, known as Carey’s Access and Equity Scholarship Program. Since then, Carey families have donated a total of $375,835.50. Thanks to our kind parent community, we were proud to award our very first Access and Equity Scholarship funded by voluntary fee contributions to Angel in 2025. Angel moved to Australia from Pakistan for life-saving medical treatment of CLOVES Syndrome, a rare condition that is characterised by severe overgrowth of tissue and blood vessels, leading to mobility issues and pain. Angel completed Year 6 this year at Carey’s Donvale campus. She also participated in a production of Mary Poppins Jr, her first musical, with new school friends. Stay tuned for more updates on Angel’s journey in the years to come.

Uplifting the Toona legacy Community Giving: Camp Toonallook Appeal Outdoor Education is an important part of the Carey learning journey, and Camp Toonallook serves as a home away from home for our students in Years 4 to 7, who visit each year to explore and learn within our 10 acres of natural bushland. Over the years, Carey has maintained Toona as a basic yet functional camp to meet the educational needs of our students. The goal of our 2025 Community Giving Appeal was to elevate Toona and refresh the site, including purpose-built gathering spaces, a new outdoor chapel and sustainable irrigation systems, ensuring the site remains relevant and valued into the future. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are delighted to announce that we’ve reached our goal to raise $100,000. Together with Carey’s matched funds, we have been able to begin construction! The upgrade of Toona is on track for completion by February 2026. Thank you for being such an important part of this journey.

Community groups making a difference
In 2025, the Junior School Parents Associations at Kew and Donvale once again played a vital role in supporting the School. At the Donvale campus, the Junior School Parents Association offered numerous enriching opportunities for students, including hands-on science classes and interactive first-aid workshops. They also organised many community events, including picnics, sausage sizzles and Mothers and Fathers Day stalls. Through the generosity of the Junior School Parents Association – Kew, the School received a substantial capital donation of two new table tennis tables! This contribution represents a significant gift from the Junior School Parents Association – Kew and is greatly appreciated.

The Swap Shop The Carey Swap Shop, located on the first floor of the Fairview Building at Kew campus, provides second-hand uniforms for students across all year levels. It operates with the valuable support of parents who volunteer their time. In 2025, the Swap Shop has raised $47,110.62! Funds are allocated to support various Carey community groups, including the Junior, Middle and Senior School Parents Associations, as well as the Access and Equity Scholarship program.
A bright future for Gramlick Oval: thank you John Hands (1977) In 2025, Carey commenced the exciting upgrade of Gramlick Oval including the forthcoming installation of state-ofthe-art lighting and a brand-new electronic scoreboard. This significant enhancement of one of Carey’s most loved sporting grounds marks a new chapter in the life of the oval, and it has been made possible thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Carey alum and Old Carey Football Club Life Member John Hands (1977) who made a significant gift to bring the project to life. ‘I’m so pleased for the opportunity to work with the School and contribute to the lighting upgrades which will be of great benefit to the Old Grammarians clubs, particularly the Old Carey Football Club, and to current school students,’ said John. ‘It is a win-win scenario to me, and a very satisfying outcome.’ Michael Tarrant, President of the Old Carey Football Club, shared his appreciation: ‘The club is so grateful for John’s contribution. The upgrade of the lights will add so much value to the football program.’ We extend our deepest thanks to John for his remarkable support.

New Sensory Walk supporting student wellbeing and learning Made possible by an anonymous Prep family, the Junior School – Kew campus Sensory Walk was installed in 2025. The Sensory Walk is a series of bright, engaging stations along walking paths and playground areas. It encourages students to move, think and play in ways that support their emotional wellbeing, social skills and physical development. The many stations include snakes and ladders, bear crawl, hopscotch and yoga to support gross motor skills, co-ordination, balance, literacy, numeracy and problem-solving. Within the Sensory Walk is a beautiful mural, painted by students with stencils they designed, giving them a sense of ownership and fostering pride, engagement and motivation to use the sensory walk.

‘I’m grateful to the Prep family whose generosity made the Sensory Walk possible. They wanted to contribute to the Carey community and support the experiences our students are having. It’s wonderful to see so many children enjoying this new instalment every day, and we sincerely thank them for their generosity. The Torchbearers Since Carey’s founding in 1923, our school has grown and flourished thanks to the generosity of our community. Over the years, families have made meaningful contributions – some by establishing scholarships, others by supporting projects that enrich the lives of our students. Leaving a gift in your will is a powerful way to make a lasting difference for future generations of Carey students. Bequests are often directed to one of the following areas: • scholarships and bursaries that open doors for students from a wide range of backgrounds • enhancing our learning and teaching spaces to inspire creativity, growth and educational excellence • general support, allowing Carey to respond to areas of greatest need.
