For a champion of Carey music
Claire Tetaz
Friends of Carey Music President
This year would have been the last year for Karen Murray as a Carey parent, as her daughter, Rose, finished her Year 12 studies. Sadly that was not to be. It has only been a year since many of us attended her funeral, where we witnessed the celebration of Karen and experienced the gratitude from the people in her life.
Karen loved music and singing in choirs and was a champion for the performing arts at Carey. A true cheerleader for Friends of Carey Music and everything we delivered in support of the music program, we sought a fitting dedication to her and her impact on the School.
In honour of her memory, Friends of Carey Music have established a bursary for a vocalist student in her name. Knowing how much she loved and admired the work of our music students, we hope this will inspire them in their musical studies.
We thank Paul, Felix and Rose for supporting this dedication. It is an ongoing reminder of how Karen’s enthusiasm and love inspired her friends and colleagues, who in turn wished to recognise and celebrate her. We hope they reflect on this with pride.
Friends of Carey Music are so pleased that we can offer this scholarship for the first time this year and thank Carey’s Head of Performing Arts, Nick Mulder, for his help in the establishment of this initiative.
‘The bursary will serve as a wonderful tribute to Karen and I know she would welcome the encouragement and validation that it will provide for our vocalists.’ – Nick Mulder
