Care Camps Foundation is the ONLY national nonprofit who solely funds pediatric oncology camps across the United States and Canada.
Our Mission
To give joy, hope, and the healing power of the outdoors to children with cancer and their families at medically supervised pediatric oncology camps.
Our Vision

Collaborative: We work together with our donors, camps, volunteers, and vendors to optimize our positive impact for children with cancer and their families.
Transparent: We carefully steward donor funds and provide clear reporting to ensure every donation brings the maximal benefit to the children and families facing childhood cancer.
Inclusive: We understand and affirm the importance of fostering friendships, shared community and opportunities for children and families from every background.
Message from the Chair
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled and proud to present the Care Camps Foundation Annual Impact Report. These pages feature our people, programs and partnerships all collectively committed to bringing hope and healing to kids and families coping with childhood cancer.
You’ll see striking statistics reflecting the reach of Care Camps Foundation’s funding to camps in the United States and Canada, all of which are part of the Children’s Oncology Camping Association (COCA) network. Details about our partnership are presented in our companion 2024 Pediatric Oncology Camps Impact Summary. To read the full report, visit carecamps.org/impact-reports
Behind every statistic reported here lives thousands of compelling individual stories documenting the invaluable differences these camps make in people’s lives. When kids are contending with chemo, radiation or the aftermath of other cancer therapies, camp delivers a welcome and healthy dose of community, comfort, normalcy and belonging - right alongside big bunches of festive frolic and fun! These indelible experiences extend to siblings, parents and other family members. Camps have countless innovative ways to create enduring memories and restore resiliency that extends long beyond the camp sessions themselves.
We invite you to pour over these pages and feel pride in considering the part you’ve played to help make the magic of these camps happen. Your generosity matters so much. May the updates here inspire you as they do all of us on the Care Camps Foundation staff and Board. We are excited to expand our work with you and the growing network of our partners past, present and future as we forge ahead!
Warmly,
Rebecca Kirch

Our Impact Together in 2024
Thanks to your generous donations, in 2024, Care Camps Foundation awarded over $2,000,000 to support 117 pediatric oncology camps’ operational and capital improvement needs – 101 were located in the United States and 16 in Canada.
Collectively, the camps served over 41,000 individuals – children living with cancer, siblings, parents and other family members.
Other information about the pediatric oncology camps include:
Nearly all camps served children between 6 and 18 years of age.
There were eight types of camp programs offered:
Overnight Residential, Day Camp, Sibling Camp, Family Retreat, Bereavement Camp, In-hospital Program, Outpatient Clinic Program, and Virtual Camp.
Overnight residential camp was the most common type of program offered.
In addition, 4,500 ‘Camp-in-a-Box’ kits were distributed by camps to children who were home or hospital-bound and could not attend outdoor camp programs.
Many camps also provided special innovative programs in addition to their regular activities, including leadership skills training, STEM/STEAM education, school outreach, emotional support initiatives, and others.

Better Together:
Children’s Oncology Camping Association Partnership
The Children’s Oncology Camping Association (COCA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen, support and connect the international community of camps serving individuals and families affected by childhood cancer.
The pediatric oncology camps that Care Camps Foundation funds are all members of COCA who oversees their quality assurance and professional education. Through our partnership with COCA, we are committed to ensuring that every camp provides a medically supervised and emotionally safe environment for children with cancer and their families.
In addition to providing funding for COCA member camps, Care Camps Foundation supports COCA’s:
Gold Ribbon Accreditation Program – that help camps implement up to date policies and best practices for their quality assurance.
Professional Education Program – that includes webinars, regional summits, and annual conference sessions and scholarships for camp staff and volunteers.

SIBLING CAMP HIGHLIGHT: Horizon Day Camp
Having a sibling with cancer is a tough road, feelings of worry and isolation are common. Camps for siblings are an opportunity for them to connect and just feel like kids again.
Meet the O’Hara kids!
Nurse and mother of three, Lindsey O’Hara had her world turned upside down when her son, Flynn, was diagnosed with leukemia at age four. Hospital stays, treatments, and isolation during the pandemic became their family norm.
When Flynn was in remission, he and his siblings, Bennett and Nellie, attended Horizon Day Camp for siblings, finding play and joy again. But, nine months later, Lindsey recognized the signs: Bennett had leukemia.
While navigating their second son through cancer, Horizon remained a source of comfort and normalcy. Now, after three summers at camp, Flynn, Bennett, and Nellie return home singing, “Horizon Day Camp, It’s the Best Camp.”
“My husband and I love seeing the three of them being kids and enjoying everything Horizon has to offer,” Lindsey shared. “They are together, enjoying their childhood, and that’s such a special blessing.”

OVERNIGHT CAMP SPOTLIGHT: Camp Courage
Overnight camp is a special experience enabling kids immersed in treatments and hospitals the chance to gain independence and try new things.
Meet Parker and Lettie!
Parker was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age two and was on and off treatment for three years. She attended Camp Courage in 2023 for her first overnight experience.
Lettie was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma at age three and joined Camp Courage in 2023 for her first overnight camp.
Both girls enjoyed swimming and the big swing, and became fast friends. When asked about her overnight camp experience, Parker said, “I felt special knowing the other kids had been sick too.”
Lettie’s mom described her camp experience as a break from the doctors and nurses who cared for her so deeply. “Camp Courage creates lasting bonds for campers beyond hospital walls,” she said.

FAMILY CAMP HIGHLIGHT: Campfire Circle
Families who navigate childhood cancer face unimaginable challenges. At Family Camp, every member feels supported and can enjoy time together.
Meet Nidra!
Nidra, whose son has cancer, said, “Family Camp was the opportunity of a lifetime.”
“We loved every minute of it. Everything was accessible. It was amazing that I could take my son with his wheelchair on the high ropes,” said Nidra. “This makes me very emotional, but I could never have imagined Muhammad doing that kind of activity.”

A Look Inside our New Logo!
The TREE symbolizes life, stability, and resilience; and embodies our core belief in the healing power of the outdoors. The shadow at the base of the tree represents our deep-rooted foundation and long-term growth.
The HEART represents love, compassion, empathy, and our caring commitment to fund the camps. It also personifies the emotional and personal connection our team, Board, and partners have with our mission.
At the center of our logo images of CHILDREN are growing, playing, dancing and celebrating, just like kids at camp. This illustrates the life-changing and life-saving gifts camp brings to the lives of every attendee.
Together these elements embody our MISSION: to give joy, hope, and the healing power of the outdoors to children with cancer and their families.
Thank you for helping us fund camps that create a world where children with cancer thrive, families heal, and everyone belongs.
