YOUTH OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM TAX CREDITS SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center was awarded $125,000 in Youth Opportunity Program (YOP) tax credits for its Right Start Program. YOP tax credits yield two dollars for every dollar donated to help children overcome obstacles while providing opportunities for positive development. Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation marketed the credits, generating $250,000 to support Right Start’s behavioral-health services.

Rally Squirrel Play Area • $500,000 Longtime friend and benefactor Robert P. Bruns had a dream of a place where patients could immerse themselves in the magic of imaginative and physical play. His wish, along with Rally’s charity efforts, made that dream a reality. Located just above the Bob Costas Cancer Center, the playground— which opened in April 2012—provides 2,000 square feet of fun for kids, taking their minds off their medical treatments. The playground features a Rally treehouse for kids to pose for pictures and deliver Rally letters, greens to practice their putting game, a log cabin house for imaginative play and musical instruments to stimulate their senses. Once they are tired from all the playing, they can relax in the swing chairs or sit at the picnic tables with their family, followed by a game of Rally Squirrel baseball!

Sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, this fun family event provides entertainment for all ages. The Development Board, comprised of area professionals, hosts this event each year. Kids make their own sundaes and enjoy all the fun and activities the Magic House offers.

As members of our Board of Governors and St. Louis fan favorites, former St. Louis football Cardinal Dan Dierdorf and former St. Louis Blues defenseman Chris Pronger come together each year for this charity golf classic. Proceeds support the Dan Dierdorf Emergency and Trauma Center.

Radiology / Imaging Center • $6.5 Million SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center unveiled its new Imaging Center in January 2013. Funded in 2012, this state-
of-the-art space provides the lowest radiation dose available for pediatric imaging in St. Louis.
The Imaging Center features two new 128-slice CT scanners that will provide significantly enhanced diagnostic imaging capabilities, while providing the safest imaging through dose reduction software. The Imaging Center also introduces an interactive MRI suite designed to provide comfort and distraction techniques to children. Children can use an iPad to select color “themes” for the MRI suite. Their selected theme is reflected throughout
the room with light-up walls and lights. Children can also select a favorite video to watch on a flat-panel TV mounted above the MRI.

Led by the Glennon Guild and sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, 2,000 donors bought a $50 card then shopped til they dropped with 20% discounts. In its second year, this 10-day retail shopping program attracted 285 merchants and more than doubled its contributions to SSM Cardinal Glennon.

The Employee Appeal asks all employees to pledge a donation from each paycheck to benefit our patients. Our very own hospital President, Sherlyn Hailstone, spent the day on the roof until more than 700 pledges were collected! Thanks to all of our dedicated employees who pledged in memory of Sr. Noreen McGowan, who passed away in August 2012.
Thousands of members in our community participated in writing “Messages of Hope” to our patients. This year’s annual appeal was a huge success, bringing hope to our patients during the holiday season. Many of our donors made gifts with their messages of hope, brightening the lives of kids during the holiday season.

Knights of Columbus Developmental Center • $1.4 Million Thanks to the generous support of the Knights of Columbus, Children’s Miracle Network, Glennon Sunday and the Glennon Guild, the new 11,000 square foot Knights of Columbus Developmental Center will open in Spring of 2013.
The second floor of the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation building just behind
the hospital will become the largest center for autism in eastern Missouri, with spacious, playful waiting areas and large exam and observation spaces. There is more room for staff, including Higgins the therapy dog! The space will provide room for various art and music therapies and a wide range of new programs.

Footprints
Social Services helps our families address practical and psychosocial issues that impact their medical care. They coordinate with medical and nursing staff to assure that families have equipment, nursing care and medications needed for departure from the hospital. Social workers facilitate protocols for our victims of violence and child abuse cases, and they team up with legislators to help keep children safe statewide. Your donations help provide basic health care assistance, such as prescription drugs, meal tickets, transportation and other forms of support to our uninsured patients.
Footprints is a program of comfort and advocacy for families and children with complex medical illnesses. The Care Team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, care coordinators, family members and others, with a goal of having the resources and support available so these children and their families can live full lives. Footprints staff works with families in the hospital and at home to identify issues which may become difficult, and advocate to see that those issues are resolved. Footprints staff provides immediate support for the family, assistance in talking with siblings and assistance with funeral options. Your donations support the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of children and thier families.
Children’s Fund
Donations to the Children’s Fund are used to address special needs of the hospital and our patients as they arise. This unrestricted fund allows for investing in special projects and programs at the medical center.

region’s first human milk depot, enabling local moms with excess breast milk to donate to the Indiana Mothers’ Milk Bank. Donor breast milk provides a wealth of nutrients essential for premature babies in particular.
