MPhil/PhD Opportunities
Following a traditional route, you could study for the award of either an MPhil or PhD. The MPhil is awarded for the production of a thesis of up to 60,000 words which provide a critical evaluation and analysis of a body of knowledge or an original contribution to learning or knowledge. A PhD is awarded for the production of a thesis of up to 100,000 words or equivalent, which provides both.
Professional Doctorates
You may decide to follow a Professional Doctorate, which is a modular programme with assessments equivalent to 60,000 words that must demonstrate a contribution to professional practice through generation of new knowledge.
There are five Professional Doctorate awards available:

• Doctor of Education (EdD)
• Doctor of Professional Practice (DProf)
• Doctor of Sustainable Built Environment (DSBE)
Taught Doctorates
If you are interested in the subject areas of Management or Business, Sports Coaching or Forensic Psychology you may wish to apply for one of our tailored Taught Doctorate Programmes. The Taught Doctorates in Management, Sports Coaching or Forensic Psychology (Top-Up) adopt a modular approach to enquiry, culminating with an applied research project at the forefront of the relevant academic discipline and/or area of professional practice.
