Caramoor, a place where nature and music intertwine, promises a summer like no other. We have curated a spectacular lineup, including chamber music, orchestras, opera, dance, jazz, Broadway, American roots, global music, and so much more, most taking place on our open-air concert stages, lush gardens, and wide-open fields. We invite you to lounge on our green lawns and be serenaded (or inspired to dance!) by some of the world’s most exceptional musicians. Whether it’s a romantic evening under the stars, a lively day of family fun, or an exploration of our captivating gardens and art collection. Caramoor offers a delightful escape for everyone. It’s a perfect place to relax, enjoy the power of live music, and connect with others while celebrating the beauty of life.

Caramoor is thrilled to announce the return of our Juneteenth celebration! Join us on Friends Field on June 16th for a free event featuring music from Charles Turner & Uptown Swing.

Caramoor proudly supports arts education for all people from age 0–100 and beyond! Because everyone, everywhere deserves to have access to the inspiration and enlightenment that the arts can provide.

Our Education team and our dedicated Teaching Artists work year-round to provide opportunities for students to visit Caramoor for curriculum-based educational programs designed to develop and nurture a love of art and music.

Music Mentorship

Our Rising Stars mentoring programs offer young professional musicians a chance to immerse themselves in week-long residencies at Caramoor to study, practice, and perform alongside distinguished guest artists.

The Rosen House is introducing a new Focus Tour experience, with a spotlight on pieces in the collection by female artists. Drawing on new research, these docent-led tours offer a chance to learn about selected works through a fresh lens. Whether it’s your first tour or your 10th, this tour will offer a wealth of information.

Our grounds are open! Come open your ears at Caramoor’s Soundscapes, a day to explore our sound art collection and discover a world of aural fascinations. Listen to Rivers are our Brothers, an electronic song cycle on ecological responsibility told from the point of view of the land, composed by Majel Connery. Experience Darian Donovan Thomas’ Safe Space installation, as well as a live set from the genre-bending composer and multiinstrumentalist. Try your hand at the theremin during workshops with the New York Theremin Society. Wander through our lush, enchanted gardens with your ears awakened anew. While you explore Caramoor’s innovative sound art collection, our distinguished sound artists will be on hand to share their creations for a deep sensory experience the whole family will enjoy. CELEBRATING PRIDE

Jasmine Rice LaBeija is a Juilliard-trained tenor and renowned drag artist, possessed of a devastating wit, razorsharp timing, and a commanding voice, all of which she will bring to Caramoor’s Music Room for a night of sensational music-making and entertainment. The International Godmother of the Royal House of LaBeija — recently shouted out by Beyoncé in the “Break My Soul (Queens Remix)” — has sold out the Guggenheim Museum, Lincoln Center, and countless queer clubs around the world. She has been a host of Dragged, which won a Shorty Award in Diversity and Inclusion, and was the face of New York City’s 2020 Pride celebrations. Following the concert, stay for our rainbow-lit, DJ-energized after-party in our breezy Spanish Courtyard.

Known as our country’s second Independence Day, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and honors their families, heritage, and resilience. Millions celebrate this nationally and globally significant American holiday. Channeling the spirit of Harlem with vibrant swing and vital blues, Charles Turner & Uptown Swing perform music from the 1920s to the present day. Family-friendly activities complete this annual June jubilee steeped in tradition and joy. All are welcome!

Celebrate our 10-year collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center and help us honor virtuoso jazz trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and longtime Caramoor friend Wynton Marsalis. Gather with your Caramoor community to sip cocktails before you settle into your premium concert seating in the Venetian Theater, where the joyful sound of big band jazz — performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra — will envelop you. Caramoor’s annual American Roots Music Festival is back with a day overflowing with spectacular music performed throughout our grounds spanning the genres of blues, Americana, folk, and bluegrass. Mary Lou Williams: Zodiac Suite

Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”

Embark on a celestial journey with The Knights and pianist Aaron Diehl as they bring to life Zodiac Suite by Mary Lou Williams, one of the most influential jazz composers of the 20th century. Last year, The Knights and Diehl released the first fully-fledged professional recording of this incredible arrangement, and this concert marks their first live full performance of it. Williams composed each movement of her suite after an astrological sign and as a reflection of her jazz colleagues who shared that sign, like Billie Holiday (Aries), Duke Ellington (Taurus), and Thelonious Monk (Libra).

The evening concludes with Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, paying homage to the composer’s deep love of nature. Whether you lean more classical or more jazz, this performance promises a convergence of genres that will leave you starry-eyed and inspired.

Caramoor’s Independence Day fireworks show returns this summer! The Westchester Symphonic Winds, joined by alumni soloists from our Schwab Vocal Rising Stars program, perform a selection of works that pay tribute to America’s independence including rousing renditions of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. This evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display on the Caramoor grounds.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held as planned on Thursday, July 4 and the fireworks will take place at 9:00pm on Friday, July 5.

With virtuosic sweeps, opulent arpeggiations, and the most intimate sonorities, Bridget Kibbey and the Calidore String Quartet team up to share tales of love, death, and the macabre, via masters of color Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel and André Caplet. From behind the harp and the microphone, Kibbey will illustrate how Debussy changed the way we hear harmony, how Fauré and Caplet were watching and responding, and how the harp turns itself from the most sacred of personas to the harbinger of death ... via Edgar Allen Poe’s infamous story, the Mask of the Red Death, which inspired this program’s finale. The Calidore Quartet also brings their signature sound and virtuosity to a Ravel masterpiece.

Kiki Valera y su Son Cubano concert on the lawn

Son Cubano is a musical genre that originated in the mountains of eastern Cuba and rose in popularity throughout the 20th century. With its Spanish and African origins, call-and-response format, and infectious percussion beats, Son Cubano was a major influence on many other styles, from mambo and salsa to jazz and chacha-chá. But you can’t talk about Son Cubano without talking about Kiki Valera. Born the oldest son in the famous multigenerational musical family, Valera quite literally grew up living and breathing the deep-rooted musical traditions of eastern Cuba and is known as one of the world’s greatest players of the Cuban cuatro, a mid-size, eight-stringed guitar.

Treat yourself to a taste from the Cajun music melting pot with the Lost Bayou Ramblers. This Grammywinning band stirs the unique energy of Louisiana’s music and culture in with the modern sounds and rhythms of punk and psychedelia, serving up a musical gumbo sure to please all palettes. With a recent feature on Jack White’s American Epic documentary, as well as opening spots on tour with Arcade Fire and the Violent Femmes, Lost Bayou Ramblers effortlessly straddles the lines between traditional and progressive … while putting on a foot-stomping, two-stepping, partnertwirling good time of a live show every time they hit the stage.

Caramoor proudly hosts the return of the conductor Xian Zhang and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s for an afternoon of exquisite music. One of the most celebrated classical guitarists of all time, Miloš, joins the orchestra for the miraculous and beloved Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo, one of the leading Spanish composers of century. Opening the program is Primal Message, a meticulously crafted reverie by American composer Nokuthula Ngwenyama. Douglas J. Cuomo: THE JUMP UP! (World Premiere)

THE JUMP UP! is a celebration of the joy of communal music making, composed by Douglas J. Cuomo (Doubt, Arjuna's Dilemma) for Sandbox Percussion and volunteer percussionists from the local community. This free outdoor performance will have the musicians roaming through Caramoor's beautiful Sunken Garden, with the audience encouraged to freely move about the players, each listener navigating their own interaction with the music.

Percussionists interested in taking part should register at caramoor.org and will have a two-hour rehearsal with Sandbox the morning of the concert.

Says Cuomo, “Making music together, and particularly drumming, creates such deep and powerful connections for everyone involved. The whole point of this piece is to have as many people as possible experience that connection, by bringing together Sandbox, the volunteer players, and the audience, so that some joyful magic can happen.”

The New Generation of Black Voices

Griot String Quartet

This vibrant showcase will highlight some of the world’s best-known operatic arias, art songs, and spirituals, paying homage to the eternal legacies of operatic legends Marian Anderson and Jessye Norman. Created and directed by composer, conductor, and multi-genre musician Damien Sneed, this powerful program symbolically passes the torch to two of today’s most exciting operatic voices, Justin Austin and Jacqueline Echols McCarley, and features works by African American composers past and present — including Margaret Bonds, Harry T. Listen to Rivers are our Brothers, an electronic song cycle on ecological responsibility told from the point of view of the land, composed by Majel Connery. Experience Darian Donovan Thomas’ Safe Space installation, as well as a live set from the genre-bending composer and multi-instrumentalist. Try your hand at the theremin during workshops with the New York Theremin Society. Wander through our lush, enchanted gardens with your ears awakened anew. While you explore Caramoor’s innovative sound art collection, our distinguished sound artists will be on hand to share their creations for a deep sensory experience the whole family will enjoy.

Experience Sonic Innovations, Caramoor’s annual campus-wide exhibition of sound art, curated by artist, composer, and Northwestern University professor Stephan Moore. These nine diverse sound installations aim to re-interpret the Caramoor grounds and inspire alternative ways of listening.

When Lucy Kalantari won the first of her two Grammy awards, she shared the award with a distinguished cellist in her band: her five-year-old son Darius. This summer, she shares her jazz age-inspired music with Caramoor’s youngest audience. Children and caregivers of all ages are invited to sing along (in English and Spanish!) to classic children’s songs, swinging originals, and music that highlights the joys of life, community, and resilience.

Gabriel Globus-Hoenich

Percussionist and Educator Gabriel Globus-Hoenich is well known for his creative and joyful music-making approach. In addition to his performance career across genres, working with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Arturo O’Farrill, and Yuja Wang, he also remains committed to his work as a teaching artist, performing children’s shows and working with budding young musicians around the world. Join him and his friends in a lively jam session, where children can play percussion instruments and dance along to the beat!

Afternoon Tea was one of the English traditions Lucie Rosen, founder of Caramoor, enjoyed during her time living in England in the early 1910s. She kept up the practice of inviting friends and guests to tea for many years, using the time for conversation and for planning concerts and other social events.

Tea is served in the Music Room, a unique opportunity for you to relax with friends and family in a breathtaking historic setting. The service includes a variety of tea sandwiches, scones with créme fraiche and preserves, delicious desserts, and a selection of fragrant teas.

Following the tea, you will also have a chance to visit select rooms of the Rosen House until 4:00pm. The rooms showcase fine examples of decorative arts from Europe and China including jade, porcelain, and textiles that the Rosens admired and collected. Additionally, prior to tea, guided tours are available for purchase in advance.
