The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) calls for direct dependents of active Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who shall enroll or currently enrolled in any four or five year baccalaureate course. For school year 2017-2018, the agency now accepts applications for the degree-granting scholarship programs.

The Department of Energy (DOE) emphasized the need to streamline regulatory processes for energy projects to speed up the provision of stable and affordable energy throughout the country.

Nutrition Month is held every July of the year to create greater awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos (Presidential Decree 491 s. 1974 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines). The National Nutrition Council (NNC) leads and coordinates the nationwide campaign.

UTUAN CITY- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 13 (MGB-13) disclosed that as of June 30, 2017, there are 25 mining companies operating with permit in Caraga region.

Of the 25 companies, 21 are operating under a Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA); two with Mineral Processing Permit (MPP); and two under Joint Operating Agreement (JOA).

Engr. Roger de Dios, regional director of MGB-13 said during a press conference on Friday held in this city that out from the total approved mining permit area of 180,070.14 hectares, two percent or 3,326.79 hectares is the total active mining area in the region.

“This can be translated that the total active mining area of 3,326.79 hectares covers only 0.17 percent of the 1,913,842 hectares total Caraga land area,” said de Dios.

In which, the annual EPEP obligation would be a minimum of three to five percent of the total of direct mining and milling costs.

“The approved annual EPEP budget for CY 2016 was P2,792,802,380.29. The EPEP is the comprehensive and strategic environmental management plan for the life of the mining project on which annual EPEPs are based and implemented to achieve the environmental management objectives, criteria and commitments

Regional News BUTUAN CITY – The Caraganon students, parents and teachers have witnessed the campus inauguration and Thanksgiving celebration of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) on Thursday here, with the presence of Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Dela Peña, in his message, bared that the newly-inaugurated campus of Pisay will now be used during the opening of classes in August 7, 2017.

“Philippine Science High School (Pisay) Caraga Region Campus is the 13th Pisay campus in the country,” said Sec. Dela Peña. He also said that it will soon have its own gymnasium before the end of 2018.

Also, the good secretary expressed his warm thanks to the Caraga State University (CSU) for facilitating the provision of temporary campus/classrooms for Pisay students for a couple of years while it awaits the completion of the new Pisay building.

“As of now, the Philippine Science High School has 343 scholars from Grade 7 to Grade 10. We are optimistic that these scholars will be able to reach their goals and become scientists in the region,” Dela Peña highlighted.

Agusan del Norte 1st District Representative Lawrence Fortun also stressed that Caraga needs more scientists that could also help enhance the agricultural facilities/technologies that farmers use.

Fortun, further elaborated to the students the importance of having a good education and encouraged them to continue to learn, and develop their skills and talent in innovating the technologies today that will also benefit the next generations.

Meanwhile, Butuan City mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada personally congratulated all the participating students, parents and teachers. He said that he has personally visited the area where the newly-constructed campus of the Phil. DSWD-Caraga’s assistance to Marawi IDPs reaches P14.4M

BUTUAN CITY - As response to humanitarian assistance and social responsibility, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Caraga proved its swift and compassionate service (maagap at mapagkalingang serbisyo) by augmenting a total of 30,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) amounting to P9,859,200 and P4,579,894-worth of non-food items intended for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) due to the ongoing gun fight between the government authorities and local terrorist group in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Dinagat Islands PDRRMO wins 3rd in Gawad Kalasag National Award 2016

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands The provincial government of Dinagat Islands through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) was awarded by the National DRRMC as third place winner for the 2016 best PDRRMC during the18th Gawad KALASAG National Awards held in Manila.

Authorities nab rebel instructor in Surigao City

BUTUAN CITY - The provincial government of Agusan del Norte is now regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in the province.

This came into law after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed and approved Provincial Ordinance No. 457-2017, otherwise known as the “Firecrackers and Pyrotechnic Devices Ordinance in the Province of Agusan del Norte,” authored by Provincial Board Member Elizabeth Marie R. Calo, during its 44th regular session recently.

The local government units through the local chief executives are mandated to cause the enactment of an ordinance that regulates the manufacture, sale, distribution and use of any firecracker and pyrotechnic device and promote an alternative form of revelry.

Any person violating the said ordinance shall be punished by a fine of P5,000.00 or imprisonment of not less than 6 motnhs or not more than 1 year, or both fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the court, in addition to the cancellation of license and business permit and the confiscation by the province of the inventory stock.

Former rebels receive cash, livelihood assistance in AgSur By: Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY – Three former rebels in Agusan del Sur received cash and livelihood assistance from the government thru the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga on June 23, 2017 in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

According to 2Lt. Romel Arnado, Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Officer of 26th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, of the three former rebels, two surrendered to 26IB while the other one surrendered to 3rd Special Forces Battalion.

Arnado added that the three received from DILG and DSWD the P50,000.00 livelihood assistance and P15,000.00 cash assistance. The names of the beneficiaries under the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) were not disclosed for their safety/security especially when they go back to the mainstream society.

“The government wanted to help them cope with the normal life in their respective community and with the livelihood assistance given to them will be a good start. They can also avail of

the other programs of the government when they need to,” expressed Arnado.

Also, 26IB commanding officer LTC Rommel Pagayon encouraged other members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the province to surrender and be part of the mainstream society.

“The 26IB and 401st Brigade, Philippine Army with the guidance of Col. Andres Centino is very willing to accept the former rebels who would want to surrender. You are safe with us, and the government has programs and services intended for you,” he underlined.

GSIS offers P66M emergency loan for members, pensioners in 3 VisMin areas

MANILA - The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) earmarked a total of Php66.36 million in emergency loans for active members and old-age pensioners in the municipalities of Kalilangan in Bukidnon, who were hit by a magnitude 6 earthquake, and those in Carmen and Compostela in Cebu, who were affected by Tropical Depression Crising.

Active members are qualified to apply for the loan if they are residing or working in the calamity-declared area, are not on leave of absence without pay, have no arrears in paying premium contributions, and have no unpaid loans for more than six months.

Deadline for filing of loan application for Kalilangan is on July 7; and for Carmen and Compostela on July 14.

Those applying for the first time may avail of a Php20,000 loan, while those with existing emergency loan may borrow up to Php40,000, from which their outstanding balance will be deducted.

Active members may apply through the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) kiosk located in all GSIS branch and extension offices; provincial capitols; city halls; selected municipal offices; large government agencies such as the Department of Education; Robinsons Malls; and selected SM City branches in
