CAPTURE MANIA PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE | August / September 2016
Capture Mania Team
EDITORIAL NOTE Photographs are stories. They might be called still images but there’s nothing still about them. Every image is one moment in a continuum, one frame in a movie, one word in a complete story. If it’s a good image, we can deduce a meaningful story from it. If an image is weak, its story will be vague or meaningless.
Guest Editor Roxanne Bouche’ Overton
Chief Editor Yasir Mehmood
Title Image
The photographs in this month’s edition of Capture Mania all have strong stories. It’s up to you, the viewer, to put words to what you see. Only then, will the photograph achieve its full impact. The story completes the circle that the photographer intended when they took the shot.

Fine Art photography is all about the vision of the person behind the camera. Anyone can point a camera and take a picture. But Fine Art Photographers use their skills and artistic eye to present their subjects to you with a personal evocative or atmospheric approach. They have an ability to view the world with awe and then engage in the mere craft of capturing and containing that which inspired them. They are inviting you to look and to feel the emotion of their shot. They are inviting you to the story.

apture Mania is a photography magazine that’s been developed not only for photo enthusiasts but also for those who have a taste for capturing any modes of beauty, art and creativity. It has been designed mainly for those who want to take a deeper look at the history of photography and have a modern agenda. It’s not just an other addition to the wonderful world of online photography magazines but a complete package where a viewer can find the photography of his own choice, such as landsc t level keeping just one agenda in mind - to rest this unique kind of art into its rightful place on the pedestal. Another purpose behind this online publication is to allow the photographers to knock on their creative instincts and share their art and talent with the rest of the world. Nevertheless, it’s an opportunity for reknowned as well as not- so-famous photographers to submit their work and start building a name for themselves.

My life has made a radical change in many ways and photography fulfills all my free time. In my opinion, there is no such a greater pleasure than enjoying a photographic journey to a new location and enjoying a beautiful sunset/ sunrise, a star-filled sky or a milky way. All of

ATTILA FRICZ
M
y name is Attila Fricz - portrait photographer from Hungary. People well know me from mflenses.com and Woman Portraits Only international fb group. I started Mflenses.com in 1996 to spread information about obsolete gears. The goal of it was rescue old beautiful items and save them to the next generations. Manual focus lenses, cameras nowadays getting more and more popular, so we did reach our goal. Now they have value, people respect them, so they don’t ending in the trash bin. The next generation will be able to enjoy a large variety of them. Sadly film is still in high danger that we lose it, film cameras will be a brick only. I have extensive collection and knowledge about old lenses and cameras, I own several hundred or thousand lenses and cameras, and tested almost all of them. My friends often call me “Lens Master” due my experience about them. ©Attila Fricz capturemania.com

I always publish results, review on mflenses.com, to serve people with information about these amazing items. Our Facebook presence is 3-4 yrs old, at this time my interest started to focus on portrait, glamour and fashion photography. I have a wonderful stylist, model and wife Krisztina Takács, we do together photography, she is a talented artist, I am pretty good technical person. I didn’t want to publish my photos in trash looking casual photographer groups on Facebook. So we started 3 yrs ago Woman Portraits Only group (WPO) to present our work and provide a friendly environment for the best photographers and models from all over the world. The success was incredible, WPO is one of the fastest growing group with the best quality content, not an elite group, but a well managed place for woman portraits, where every post get attention. Now we have 106 000 members in WPO, (and 10 000 were banned), it shows that quality is the most important thing in this group. In the last 10 yrs Krisztina and me getting a worldwide well known and popular photographe r- model/stylist couple, from the USA to Indonesia, we got so much love from people, I would like to say thank you to all of them here in this article. http://www.portrefotos.com, http://forum.mflenses.com, https://www.facebook.com/mflensescom https://www.facebook.com/krisztina.takacs.9406?fref=ts

I
am from a small town in Germany, but have been living in Moscow for over 13 years now. My journey into photography started some years ago. In the beginning I tried architecture, macro, cityscapes etc., but was never really satisfied, until I became interested in street photography about two years ago. I love to watch people and capture them in unnoticed moments. It is the small moments in life that I am fascinated with, the everyday scenes. I regularly search for these captures. People in big cities never have time; everybody is in a rush. Since the winter in Moscow can be very cold and long, I often end up photographing in the metro. Trying to capture the beautiful Moscow metro in a different way brought me to the double exposures. There are so many impressions, like the sounds of the incoming and leaving trains, the muffled steps of passersby and their quiet conversations, the announcements in the trains; all this inspires me. In my double

I slow down and just enjoy the moment. My work can be found on my website www.birkawiedmaier.com https://plus.google.com/u/0/+BirkaWiedmaier/collections

ED WIGHT
I
am a British journalist living in Poland. I took up photography about five years ago and use a Nikon D4 and DF. My go-to-lenses tend to be my 50mm 1.4, and my 24-70mm, 2.8.
I am fascinated by people and their interaction with their environments and try to capture that in my photographs. Essentially, I am trying to tell stories through pictures rather than words and I look for interesting compositions which have a certain narrative to them. For example, a man sitting in a cafe isn’t inherently interesting. But if he is crying then suddenly there’s a whole back story there, whether it be real or imagined. The same with someone standing outside a pub smoking. Essentially it’s a very mundane and everyday situation. But sometimes you’ll see someone who has a certain look or expression which makes them stand out, or the lighting makes the situation intriguing. So I try and capture that. I began doing street portraiture as I wanted to try and capture an element of Polish society which I felt was being ignored - mainly, the young people who

are the future of the country. Many street portraits tend to focus on wizened old men and women, often homeless, who are normally referred to as “forgotten by society.” So I wanted to show this other side of society that seems to be, if not forgotten, then at least ignored. For me, the real pleasure of photography is capturing “the defining moment”. It’s an elusive concept, and one which is widely open to interpretation. One man’s ‘moment’ is not necessarily the same as another’s. So, often, I won’t look at the photos until a few days, or even weeks, after I have taken them. I try and clear my mind of the context and circumstances behind the photos and look at them with fresh eyes. Then, when one or two jump out at me, I can say that I have captured the moment, or at least ‘the moment’ for me. I have recently started an online profile and my work can be seen on my website as well as on Google+ and 500px. http://eswphotography.smugmug.com Google+: https://plus.google.com/106483524769205392795/posts https://500px.com/edwight5

MARCELLO MACHELLI Marcello Machelli Rome Italy acro is a philosophy not just a photographic genre for me. You have to be in harmony with nature to feel it and discover its secrets. Small, hidden, still or disguised, these little animals are pearls to a trained eye. Sunrise or sunset, it is the best time for shooting, with some help from their lethargy and maybe a bit of backlight, you can have all you need. Even fruitless days are paid back by the beauty of the forest. Every animal is the star and as such, it should have the best possible light, the right expression and cure like a top model. Sometimes I use controlled and natural light together, like in human portraits to create a different style, with darkness and lights instead of a bright

background. It is all a matter of time, you might not have a second chance, few shoots for a portrait of a little friend. Mantis are great models, true actresses, while spiders are very curious and funny. Grasshoppers have sometimes accompanied me for a long walk, comfortably on my arm or on my lens, like a captain in charge of the vessel. Macro is one of my favourite genre together with portraits and landscapes. Light is a key factor, as well as composition but see it and shoot it at the right time, makes the difference. I mainly shoot on manual mode, even focusing, to have more control and quality. http://marcellomachelli.500px.com/ https://www.facebook.com/Marcello.Machelli.Foto/ https://500px.com/marcellomachelli https://www.flickr.com/photos/marcello-machelli/ www.camerapixo.com/photographers/marcello-machelli

ARNAUD BATHIARD Lyon, France orn in Burgundy, France, in 1973, I started to take pictures at the age of 40, learning by myself. I like minimalism and Japanese poetry, collect Jazz records and old African statuettes, I’m obsessed by waters and I travel a lot - and I guess that’s all about it. I take long exposures for I never know with certainty what will come out of the camera : sometimes a good surprise, sometimes not. But the wait is in itself always exciting - and that’s what I like : to be outdoors, alone most of the time, waitin’ and watchin’ around me. With the years, I’m searching more and more for simplicity, in my own life as in in my work as a photographer. I hope to achieve it one day.

After a day responsibilities often run away on the meadow (when I have a favorable light) and there “I charge the batteries” for the next day. I am inspired by gentle sunlight, which gives its ethereal lit objects charisma. At the very beginning I wanted to obtain the aesthetics of the image. It frustrated me that my pictures and moderated criticized for photo-portals, but from today’s perspective, this did not surprise me. I wanted to photographs attracted not only me, but also eye recipients. I worked intensively over the composition, the light, the frame. It’s a natural process. Each develops photographically, provided that they do not become discouraged failures. I also experiencing failure. They were and still are my driving force, as well as successes. I believe that technical issues are not the most important in photography. The quintessence is to put them in your heart.

MARIAA IQBAL
A
n artist by passion, a socialist by choice and an educationist by chance – I am Mariaa Iqbal a wishful thinker who aspires to live through her photographs. I made my first wedding album almost 14 years ago when I didn’t have a DSLR, I was too young to guide a photographer. Today my work floats in the sea of art with many other amazing artists, still I believe there is yet more to learn. I describe my photographs as honest, sincere and intimate. In last few years, I have honed my aesthetics, technical skills and sensibility. Along with that, if I came this far there is always a support behind – which came from my family, friends and specially my bosses, who have always encouraged me to step ahead and steal the show! https://www.flickr.com/maryaaekbal/ https://www.facebook.com/ClicksByMaria/

E ditor’s Note
Vibrant colors gleam in this wonderful photograph of a man preparing food. I love how he is framed between columns and how the dog is framed between columns – separate but sharing the center one. Rich details and textures add interest – the columns anchor with strength. Nice balance and spatial relationships. The story is yours to imagine.

ROCQ OLIVIER Ben-Ahin, Belgium started photography in 2009 after having followed a Webdesign training in which a short introduction to photography had been given, we had as students received a DSLR in our hands, it was love at the first sight as I live in the countryside, I mostly capture landscapes, flowers and animals, but I like to try a lot of different things so I started to travel, visit cities, capture people, architecture also. I love the painting style, so I try to give my pictures that style in post-processing. I’m always looking to bring something fresh in my work, angle of view, post-processing, You can follow me on : -500px : https://500px.com/finalfx -Flickr : https://www.flickr.com/photos/rocq -Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/olivier.rocq.photography/

tecture and Seascapes categories (Amateur), Nomination in ND Awards 2015 forfine art landscape category and also his numerous publications in “1x.com”- biggest curated international art gallery. His work has also appeared in, and on the covers ofMagazine “Shades of Grey” published by a French Photojournalist and publisher. When we asked about his unique and interesting style of photography, Sajin explains: I always love minimalistic compositions with long exposure and love to play with lights & shades which are the heartbeat of my images. I always keep my composition simple so my final artwork comes out perfectly clean, smooth and gives a relaxing feel while we look at it and spend lot of time in altering tonal relationships in my photos by making white what once was black and vice versa or something in between. I create separate accurate selections for my image to control the shapes, the sharpening of light by using gradient tool to transfer my artistic vision to my photograph which is the main time consuming thing in my workflow. Photography is the only passion I have and I loose myself while I shoot. My images are all about what I feel and how I see this world and I love what I do. I
’m Vincent a Canadian of Italian descent, I was born in the Ville Emard district of Montreal, in 1960, I now live in Ville La Salle. My parents come from a small village in the state of Molise and in the province Isernia. The name of the village is Rocchetta a Volturno, population of about 1000. It is located at about 200 km at the southeast of Rome and 100 km at the northeast of Naples. I’ve been a photographer or at least I’ve been taking pictures for approximately 25 years and I like it very much. A friend of mine called Robert Valade started me in photography , he was my mentor. I do all kinds of photography, but if I had to choose a favorite kind of photography I would choose glamour. I belong to photo clubs and I find it’s a great way to hone one’s skills, as pho-

tographers the more we see of other peoples work the more we learn. I’ve never taken any photography courses except for a couple of workshops. So I’m mostly self taught. I love the work of Herb Ritts and Ansel Adams. I rent a studio at least twice a month and I shoot for three hours each session, I also take pictures outdoors of different subjects. I like to work with the same group of models all the time, because we’ve gotten to know each other and we know what each other wants from our images. I’ve had different photo exhibitions and I liked it very much, although I did not sell very much. My picture was also chosen as the cover of the centennial anniversary book of Ville La Salle and the same picture will be used as a billboard for the inauguration of a new belvedere in Ville La Salle for the 350th anniversary of Montreal. My mom and sister say I should get paid but I like the fact that they like my picture and that my name is known. I would love to be able to make a living in photography and I hope to be able to someday. For the time being I work part time at a place where people have mental health issues. I would like to thank Capturemania for giving me the opportunity to showcase my work in their magazine, I am truly flattered.
