T
his year I decided to dedicate my business to teens and seniors. While photography is what I truly love and enjoy, it is my second career, and my time is precious. I found my time in years past was stretched very thin. I have found more joy being able to focus entirely on one area of photography. It has given me the ability to really grow and provide a more valuable and thorough experience for my clients. While that’s not to say that I will not work with the occasional family or couple, my focus has really been narrowed to the senior and teen market in order to provide a full service from beginning to end.

CHICAGO This year I wanted to do something different for my spokesmodels. I wanted to give them the opportunity to have a photo shoot in a completely different atmosphere. So when I structured my program, I added the option for a destination photo shoot. The idea for the destination photo shoot started when I talked to other photographers around the country who are offering trips to Iceland, France, and more. I figured before I tried something too far out of my comfort zone, I would see how something a little more close to home went over. I teamed up with another amazing photographer from Wisconsin, Gina Fiene of Fiene Photography, and we gave our spokesmodel teams the opportunity to sign-up for a trip to Downtown Chicago. After all of the details were worked out, two of the girls from my team, and three from Gina’s joined us in the city in August. We planned three themes, the first was to the Laurie Gardens in Millennium Park. It was walking distance away from the hotel where all the models got their hair and makeup done, and it was a beautiful backdrop of blooming wildflowers and sky scrapers. After we left the park, we headed back towards the hotel, stopped off for a quick bite at McDonald’s (no

time for lavish lunches on our day trip), and hurried back to the hotel for a wardrobe change. Our next stop was to the Jimmy Hendrix and Chicago Murals. We hailed a few Ubers and headed out with our grunge rock style. We ran into another group of photographers at the Chicago mural, so we headed down the block to the Jimmy Hendrix mural and spent some time shooting the models there. After a little while we ventured back to the Chicago wall where we found the other photographers were still shooting. I asked politely if we would be in their way, then we scooted off to one side and began to shoot in that spot along side them. Once we wrapped up at the murals we headed back to the hotel and the girls were made over into a glam look. We staged a rooftop scene with beautiful dresses and closed out the night with a little fun and a lot of class. The overall experience was unbeatable. I think it was safe to say we all had an exhausting day, but the memories made were totally worth it, and the images we captured are priceless. I believe the first destination shoot was a success and there will be more in the future!

henever I look back into my senior year of high school, I tend to beat myself up over the fact that I had so many cute outfits that
completely showed off my personal style but, never saw the light of day because of my lack of confidence, and fear of scrutiny. I adored big gaudy jewelry and funky shoes but never dared to step outside of the house with them on because I didn’t want someone to look at me and think these neat pieces I loved, were weird. I liked to make it seem like I didn’t care what others thought of me, but I truly did. So much to the point I’d spend hours on my look in the mornings just to take it down to the bare minimum at the last minute. I don’t want

YOUR CHANCE IS NOW
E
very generation has something in it, created or inspired by brilliant minds that capitalize on o p p o r tu n ity . O p p o r tu n ity b y definition is a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. It requires a little bit luck and a lot of preparation. Many people look back on missed opportunities and wonder what if. “What if I tried out for the team?” “What if I had studied more and got better grades?” In school there is access to all kinds of things like sports, art, Music, robotics, scholastic book clubs, tutoring, etc. It could almost make it easy to take for granted the opportunity an education gives us. For many, taking an opportunity can mean escaping from a not ideal situation and creating what we feel is an ideal life. For others it could simply mean they get to do what they love or what inspires them. Whatever
happens in life, recognizing an opportunity and knowing the pros and cons of pursing or not pursing opportunities will push you to live the most fulfilled life possible. Part of recognizing opportunity is having belief in your own ability. Create more opportunities by believing you can do something and risk failure. Networking amongst peers, teachers, coaches, and mentors will help provide a strong support group for the times you do fail and are scared to try again. By exploring talents and interests you create and invite opportunity to find you. It is not just about taking the opportunity when it presents itself but also putting the work in to create the opportunity itself. Pursuing an oppor tunity that seems impossible or requires a lot of hard work creates a sense of accomplishment and positive
self-esteem which contributes to one’s overall happiness. It can create mental and physical growth that allows us to be the best version of ourselves. Taking opportunities in school will be good practice for taking opportunities at work later. This spares the dreadful feeling of living with regret and guilt. The chance is now to start taking every opportunity possible. Set your life up for positive opportunities to be abundant. Sometimes opportunities can mean taking a risk or a chance, and as long as those risks are healthy and in our best interest, encourage yourself to take them. Anything worth having is worth working for and anything worth having takes hard work. No one ever made history without discipline. That leap of faith to try something new could be the most remarkable part of the next generation.

SENIOR + SPOKESMODEL // WHITEHALL HIGH SCHOOL
I first met Sherry for a prom shoot with a great friend of mine who was her spokesmodel at the time. I really didn’t know what to expect. I got a very welcoming and positive first impression from Sherry, and she seemed to take me in right away! Later on in the year, Sherry was hosting a group halloween shoot with another photographer. I was nervous for my first in-studio shoot, but Sherry was so laid back with me and worked with me patiently as the poses soon came to me naturally. The final images were creative and artsy, which I loved. It was an awesome little event in time for Halloween. When I enrolled as a senior spokesmodel in Sherry’s program, she was so welcoming
and very happy to see that I was on board. Every shoot we have done so far has been comfortable and incredibly fun! She always makes me laugh when she is behind the camera and is totally patient. We once went all over from Whitehall to Shelby for senior photos all day long! She is absolutely positive during a shoot. It is clear to see that she is very thankful for each and every one of her clients. I am in love with my images from this spokesmodel program. They define me to my liking and are so nice to have. Our group sessions have always been fun. The other spokesmodels are super easy to talk to and we always manage to have a ton of fun together! Definitely an amazing program that I am thankful to be a part of!

SPOKES MODEL BECOMING A
I have offered the spokesmodel program for several years. The current spokesmodel program began in spring 2018. The premise was to bring on a team of individuals who wanted to participate in photoshoots and activities throughout the year. I was a little nervous at first. I love every spokesmodel I have ever worked with, and each year the program grows. I wasn’t sure if the change in my approach would be as successful but I wanted to find a way to really offer my team more. This year my spokesmodel program (for senior crew) offers the following: • • • • • • •
One Individual Session (With hair, makeup, and a wardrobe consultant) Option to travel* Group shoots Family Session End of Year Cap and Gown Session Holiday Parties And more!
This year we had a wardrobe party with style consultant Olivia Fitzpatrick of Liv Styled, each girl in attendance brought in their wardrobes for their planned shoot and modeled them for Olivia. She helped them piece things together and work in little details. It was a huge success and we hope to hold another party in the spring. Our travel this summer was to Chicago. We met up with another amazing photographer from Wisconsin and brought in a stylist from there as well. We did three amazing themes in three totally different areas of the city. It was a ton of work and a ton of fun. For our first travel experience, we learned a lot and I look forward to making another travel shoot happen in the future. We’ve had a beauty master class that was free to all spokesmodels that taught about skin and hair care and gave easy, at-home tips for how to style your look. All of these things are available for the ENTIRE year for spokesmodels for just a little more than what my standard senior session would cost. i, I’m Olivia! The owner and creator of LivStyled, Personal Stylist. I’m thrilled to introduce you to my work of personal styling! Since I was 15 years old I have wanted to pursue a career in fashion, when I got my chance I moved away to sunny San Diego, California where I studied and obtained a fashion degree. After a move back to Michigan, I realized there was a need for personal stylists in Grand Rapids and decided to chase after my dream of working in the fashion industry, but on my own terms. That’s when LivStyled was dreamed up! So, what does a personal stylist do anyway?! It is my passion to help you discover and create your own style! Through wardrobe assessment and a handful of questions I am able to better understand which styles, colors and silhouettes you are naturally drawn
to. I help you to better understand your body type so that shopping for clothes that fit just right is a whole lot easier. We also explore which colors best compliment your skin tone so you know which colors to purchase more of. From there we start to build more specific styles that represent your lifestyle, interests & personality so that you can feel completely confident and excited about your wardrobe! It’s my goal as a personal stylist to help women of all ages, races and sizes to develop a more confident self image and understand what makes them feel and look beautiful. Once we strip away all of the expectations of the media, our peers and social media we can step back and really ask ourselves who we want to be. I have found when we are able to do that, we find more freedom to express ourselves through our clothes and care less
about trying to be like everyone else. Fashion is exciting and always changing but how we incorporate trends and fads in our personal style is what makes fashion turn from something everyone has access to, to something only we possess.
