STUDIO WHY INCLUDING A STUDIO SESSON CAN GIVE YOU MORE DYNAMIC PORTRAITS.
SENIOR YEAR HAS OFFICIALLY S TA R T E D
AND
IF
YOU ’ R E
NOT THINKING ABOUT YOUR SENIOR PORTRAITS, YOU SHOULD BE. It never surprises me to hear my clients say that they want their photos done over the summer, between their Junior and Senior year. Of course you do! It is a great time of year here in Michigan for the beach, the sun, and all the amazing things the state has to offer. Pair that with all of the free time you think you have, and you begin feeling like summer will last forever. But guess what?! Between June 21 and September 22, there are only 13 Saturdays this summer. That’s really not many - a box of donuts. How long does that last in your house?
But forget summer for a second. Let me talk to you about fall. The single-busiest season for photographers. Did you know that fall is the most popular season for all of my clients? The first reason people give me for booking in the September and October months is of course the colors, and we have a very limited w i n d o w of p e r f e ct co lo r i n o u r a re a . The second reason is procrastination, which we all do. Don’t let it happen to you.
If you haven’t considered your portraits yet folks, it’s time. The calendar is filling up. And if you’ve got a season you want, it’s only coming once this year.

“When it comes to personal care and grooming, some things are just common sense” LINDSEY RUITER

hen it comes to personal care and grooming, some things are just common sense - like bathing and using soap. But WHAT you put on your skin plays a huge role in your hygiene. Your skin is the largest organ of your body. It is not just the container that holds your guts in, as I had believed as a kid. It is a barrier that protects your body from the outside world- filtering toxins, regulating temperature, protecting against germs, and even sending signals to your brain about possible dangers. Your skin is highly sensitive, and harsh treatment will cause damage. Cleansers and makeup should be free of unnatural chemicals. Good grooming habits begin with skin care. How you cleanse your skin will impact how it looks, which affects how you feel. The very top layer is called the Acid Mantle. This layer actually has a much lower PH than many traditional soaps. Facial cleansers that are

not PH balanced for your skin, as well as cleasners that contain chemicals, can damage the acid mantle and allow bad bacteria to enter the pores. If you have ever washed your face and had it feel tight and dried out, you have damaged your acid mantle. This can lead to acne and premature aging. Wild Willow makes an oil cleanser that is gentle and matches the PH level of your skin. The oil helps break down dirt and other oils, and using a hot soft cloth to steam the oil off your face, draws out the impurities without damaging the acid mantle. In addition to good skin care, it is impor tant to use good quality, all natural makeup. I prefer mineral makeup powders. O u r s a re l i g ht w e i g ht , h av e good coverage without looking fake, contain natural sunscreen, a n d d o n ’ t c lo g y o u r p o res .
Some final things to keep in mind as you take care of your skin: 1. Wash your face every night. Your skin does a lot of healing and rejuvenating while you sleep. 2. Get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. “Beauty Sleep” is a real thing. Blood flow increases to your skin while you sleep, giving you a more glowing complexion. Sleep deprivation can stress your body, increase inflammation and skin problems. It will also cause bags under your eyes. 3. Drink plenty of water- half your body weight. More if you drink caffeine, sweat a lot, or eat a lot of salt. 4. Wear sunscreen! Again, make sure you are using clean, natural products. If you take care of your skin when you are young, you will have clearer skin and stay looking young longer.

STU DIO WHY DO YOU
Senior portraits are most commonly taken outdoors. And why not? With the abundance of beautiful locations in our area, there is no doubt you have already thought of a handful of locations where you
would like to have your portraits done.. A beach, a field, a barn, they
all say something about who you are or what you love to do, and that is exactly what your portraits are supposed to do.
So then you might be asking why do you even bother going into the studio? The benefits of adding a studio session as a part of your package may not be immediately obvious, so let’s explore them.
