STORIES Stories is the third picture book that Dane Kim Fupz Aakeson and Norwegian Stian Hole have created together. Three masterpieces, three beautiful and moving books to touch the hearts of children and adults alike. I open the door, and there stands Grandma. ‘Grandma?’ I ask. ‘Did you run away from the nursing home?’ ‘I’m thirsty,’ Grandma says, so I pour some ice water, and we sit out in the sun. Then I say, ‘Once upon a time’. She smiles. She nods. She says, ‘Yes, once upon a time’. But that’s all she says, a smile on her lips.

Eventyr 210x277 mm / 48 pages 6–9 years

I say, ‘A palace?’ Grandma is getting old. She can’t drive a car anymore, or even ride a bike. In the end, she’s not very good at remembering, either—or living in her big house all alone. But she’s still good at telling stories. A beautiful picture book about how stories and memories bring grandchildren and grandparents together.

Stian Hole (b. 1969) is a reputed illustrator and an author. He has created several prize winning picture books and a number of book covers. For his works, he has received prizes like the Brage Prize, Bologna Ragazzi Award and Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis. Kim Fupz Aakeson (b. 1958) is a Danish author and illustrator. He has created more than 40 titles, mainly children’s books. He has also written several scripts for theatre plays and movies. In Denmark, he has received numerous awards for his works.

Gro Dahle / Kaia Dahle Nyhus (ill.)

THE DAY Po’s Day trudges and tramples, shoves and pushes, pesters and hassles. The Day hangs heavy on Po's shoulders, like a sack he has to drag around with him everywhere. You have to make friends with your Day, says Grandma. You get the Day you deserve, says Mum. Smile at the Day and the Day will smile back, says Dad. But that’s easy for them to say, Po thinks, because nobody knows how exhausting Po’s Day is; only somebody who knows the Day can know that. Dagen 245 x 260 mm / 48 pages

Together, Po and the Day tumble down into a place where nobody can hear them. And perhaps you need to fall into the very deepest of deep depths to work up the courage to whisper ‘Help me’. The Day is a dark, intense and poetic tale of childhood depression – a powerful picture book about how dark things can get when The Day demands too much of you.

Gro Dahle (b. 1962) writes for both children and adults. As a children's author she is known for her poetic books on themes that are often given little attention. Her poetry collections Riddles of Rain and A Hundred Thousand Hours have solid places in the canon of modern Norwegian poetry. She has also published novels and short stories. Kaia Linnea Dahle Nyhus (b. 1990) studied visual communication at the National Academy of Arts in Oslo, and also studied illustration at the Luzern College in Switzerland. She has illustrated several of Gro Dahles children´s books, and was awarded the Ministry of Cultures Illustration Prize in 2011 for the book Hope, said Goose. THE BILLY GOATS GRUFF GO TO THE MEDITERRANEAN Once upon a time there were three billy goats called the Billy Goats Gruff. All winter long, they’d scraped and saved because this year they were going to the Mediterranean.

Bukkene Bruse drar til Syden 230 x 260 mm / 48 pages 4–8 years

The biggest Billy Goat Gruff found a place that was cheap and cheerful. 'A Different View is linguistically interesting, touching and wise. […] The book is about underage Afghan refugees and is solid and loaded with important perspectives. […] Anwar’s diary notes and school assignments are full of funny linguistic twists and turns. The main character leaves his mark on the reader.' VG 'The thoughts are big, the associations are many. You easily get drawn into the book’s universe. It is exciting and intense.' ALL ABOUT PERIODS Norwegian girls are ashamed of their period. A recent survey shows that more than half of us find it embarrassing to talk about our period. 62 per cent of us have received comments linking our mood to our period, and 82 per cent of 15 to 19-year-olds feel dirty when they have their period. A woman has more than 450 periods, or 2.250 days of menstruation, in one lifetime. We cannot accept that there are so many days in girls’ and women’s lives where many feel ashamed or are excluded from opportunities that boys and men have. 16 famous Norwegian women and girls tell the story of the first time they had their period, and each story is accompanied by a fact box about different aspects of having a period.
