THE RIVER The River is a quiet and beautifully illustrated novel about the big and small things that make life difficult for teenage Helena. She feels like she's just washing away, like the water beneath the ice in the river she sees each day on her way to school. Helena wishes she could take up more space, that she could say what she thinks and feels. That she could manage to comfort Dad, or dare to talk to Andreas in the other class. Then one spring day, the ice starts to break – and something dramatic happens.

Everybody has a Backside is a book packed with facts and surprises that provoke thought, speculation and raise awareness around the theme of the human body through skilful use of humour and intimacy. ‘Anna Fiske's illustrations are recognizable and solid with a strong and Alle har en bakside well-considered visual tone. Cheerful, 170x240 mm / 88 pages colourful stick figures are presented 4–99 years on a white background without shading or complicated details. Despite this, Fiske manages to convey finely tuned emotional expression and nuance. … This may inspire young children to explore and talk about respect for their own and others' bodies as well as body sounds, shapes and colours.’ VG ‘Anna Fiske hits the spot once more with the picture book Everybody has a Backside. … Everybody has a Backside is an incredibly rich book with a wealth of content that will contribute to both reflection and awareness. BOY AND GIRL PLAY PRETEND With easily understandable sentences and identity as its theme, author Hilde Matre Larsen has an eye to non-fiction classics for children. Mari Kanstad Johnsen's tidy drawings offer the same associations. But Boy and Girl Play Pretend is quite different from educational picture books from the 1970s. YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT UNTIL YOU SEE IT The year's longest book! A very special accordion-book that grows as you read it. Unfold this humorous and spirited picture book and see everything that happens in the kitchen while you're sleeping! I wake up from some noises and creep downstairs, but almost don't believe what I'm seeing – because underneath the striped kitchen mat, I find nothing other than the cross-eyed neighbor cat snoring! But that's not the worst part …

Du tror det ikke før du får se det 170x240 mm / 36 pages 3–6 years

Technical facts: You Won't Believe It Until You See It is made of solid paper (but not cardboard). It can be read like a normal book, but when you unfold it, it grows to be three meters long! On the one side, you can read the poem and see what is happening in the kitchen – and it's a lot! On the other side of the accordion, we're standing outside of the house and peeking through the window. Without a doubt, this year's most original book!

Ingeborg Eliassen (1953–) is from the county of Nordland in Northern Norway. She published her first children's book in 1979. Since then she has written plays, poems, song lyrics and monologues which have been enthusiastically received by both critics and audiences. Agnes-Margrethe Bjorvand

The book follows a classic chronological development from Astrid's happy childAstrid Lindgren hood to her old age in Stockholm. The 248x265 mm / 112 pages book explores important, exciting and 7–10 years humorous episodes in Astrid's life and work. We hear about her love of nature, her lifelong joy of playing and climbing trees, reading and writing, and fighting for children's and animal rights. But we also hear about her life's many dark moments – her life as a young and impoverished single mother, her longing for love, and – as she so often expressed it – the experience of «how difficult it can be to be human». This biography is a unique starting point for inspiring new generations to read Astrid Lindgren's books. ‘… a rock-solid and beautifully illustrated biography for children. … Small details and big topics are told with the same interest and enthusiasm, and Bjorvand's detailed knowledge makes the biography intimate and entertaining. Lisa Aisato, the illustrator, shows great skill as a visual artist. The tightly written and inspired text and the fine art illustrations together capture the tone of Lindgren's life and universe and make the biography of the year a pure joy.’ DAGBLADET ‘This book is a pleasure to behold.’ FÆDRELANDSVENNEN Agnes-Margrethe Bjorvand (1969–) is a lecturer at the University of Agder, where she teaches literature and the dissemination of literature as part of preschool teacher training as well as in further education courses for teachers and school librarians.
