PHYSICIAN WELLNESS PROGRAM: Six, free confidential wellness coaching sessions with Ph. D. level psychologists for Active and Associate members.

PRACTICE TOOLS: Docbook MD app for smart phones and tablets that offers HIPAA compliant communication between physicians saving time and effort while delivering quality patient care.

CE MANAGEMENT DISCOUNT: CE Broker Professional Account Discount to easily manage your CE and make license renewal simple.

PUBLICATIONS: CapMed Today is an electronic news bulletin providing breaking news and community events of interest to the medical community.

Cap Scan is an award-winning, monthly newsletter including articles about issues impacting the practice of medicine. Members are encouraged to submit articles.

REFERRALS: Capital Medical Society makes approximately 2,000 referrals by phone per year to member physicians; CMS website’s online “Find A Doctor” referral system brings patients to you.

GRIEVANCE ASSISTANCE: Physician/Patient Relations Committee reviews formal complaints and helps members resolve their differences at the local level.

ADVOCACY: CMS works closely with the FMA to support legislation and political candidates that protect physicians and their patients. CMS encourages all members to join the Florida Medical Association.

SERVICE: Serving as a We Care Network donating provider is an opportunity to partner in an awardwinning network of 300+ CMS members who provide donated specialty medical care to low income, uninsured patients through an organized CMS physician-created program. Up to 5 hours, per biennium, of CE credit may be fulfilled by performing pro bono medical services to We Care Network patients.

RESOURCE: The Capmed.org website provides current information on topics impacting the practice of medicine, calendar information, online giving page, and links to other resources.

Members of Capital Medical Society are involved with all issues and dynamics that surround medical care.

The primary focus of Capital Medical Society is physician advocacy and support.

CAPITAL MEDICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL DUES Full Active: $425.00 Active Members shall be doctors of medicine or osteopathy licensed in the State of Florida physically present and engaged in the active practice of medicine, medical administration or medical education in the counties of Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, Wakulla, in the State of Florida, who have met all eligibility requirements and reside in Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, or Wakulla County six or more months per year. They may vote and hold office. Dues include meals at membership meetings.

Active 1st Year: $250.00 Same criteria as Full Active, but reduced dues for first year of membership with Capital Medical Society, regardless of years in practice.

Associate: $285.00 Associate members shall be doctors of medicine or osteopathy licensed to practice medicine in the United States, not necessarily licensed in Florida. They must be in good standing in whatever state they are licensed.

They may, but not exclusively be, employees of federal, state or local government; active military or faculty members of an accredited school of medicine in the state of Florida that pays special dues for all of its clinical faculty members. They may attend meetings and receive other benefits and functions of the Society, receive all publications; but not vote or hold office. Dues include meals at membership meetings.

Retired: $150.00 with Meals Doctors who are fully retired from active medical practice and are transitioning from Active or Associate CMS member to Retired status, or who have relocated to Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, or Wakulla Counties after retirement. This membership rate includes payment for meals at CMS membership/CME meetings.

Retired: $50.00 without Meals Doctors who are fully retired from active medical practice and are transitioning from Active or Associate CMS member to Retired status, or who have relocated to Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, or Wakulla Counties after retirement. This membership rate does not include meals at CMS membership/CME meetings. If a Retiree without meals RSVPs or attends a membership/CME meeting, they will be charged $35.00 per meeting.

Resident: $25.00 Members shall be hospital interns and residents serving in approved training program. They will be encouraged to attend all meetings and functions of the Society and receive all publications, but may not vote nor hold office.

At the discretion of the Board, residents may serve on the Board, but not as officers. Resident members may serve on committees as non-voting members. Dues include meals at membership meetings.

Medical Student: $20.00 (4 year membership) Medical student members must be enrolled in an approved medical school. They will be encouraged to attend all meetings and functions of the Society and receive all publications, but may not vote nor hold office.

Student Members may serve on committees as nonvoting members. Dues include meals at membership meetings.

HISTORY The first evidence of a Tallahassee-based medical society dates back to 1826, a time when only seven doctors were in practice in the capital city. In the 1930s, the Society expanded to include a five-county district, defined by the Florida Medical Association. In 1973, Capital Medical Society (CMS) was incorporated and was located in the office space furnished by Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. In 1981, CMS Foundation purchased the Society’s current location on Miccosukee Road. Now, Capital Medical Society includes M.D.s and D.O.s from four counties: Leon, Jefferson, Gadsden, and Wakulla.

Members of Capital Medical Society are involved with all issues and dynamics that surround medical care. The primary focus of Capital Medical Society is physician advocacy and support. Since 1973, CMS membership has grown from 158 members to its current membership of more than 600. Over the years, society members have taken the leadership role in providing and promoting quality health care in the community.

Other Capital Medical Society organizations include: Capital Medical Society Foundation, Inc. - a 501 (c)(3) corporation, directing its efforts towards charitable endeavors that include its award-winning We Care Network program, providing scholarships to FSU College of Medicine students, and grants to local charities that increase access to healthcare. Over $90 million in donated specialty medical and dental care has been coordinated by the We Care Network since 1992. Local medical students have been awarded over $528,000 in scholarships to defray the cost of their medical education.

Capital Medical Services Corporation, Inc. - a for profit organization established to handle business projects for CMS members, including the pager service and Cap Scan.

Capital Medical Society Alliance - the affiliated organization for spouses who work in partnership with CMS to promote health, education and community service.
