2019 CELEBRATION AWARDS DINNER By Shannon Boyle, CMS Communications and Events Coordinator The eighteenth annual Celebration Awards Dinner honored Dr. Andrew Wong and Dr. John Katopodis. The event was held in honor of Doctors’ Day on March 28th at the FSU University Center Club. There was a room full of proud supporters of the award winners. Dr. Andrew Wong was awarded the I.B. Harrison, M.D. Humanitarian Award, and Dr. John Katopodis was awarded the Outstanding Physician Award. Our CMS President, Dr. Maribel Lockwood, did a great job emceeing the event. Dr. Lockwood thanked the Celebration Awards Dinner Steering Committee and the Capital Medical Society staff for their hard work in organizing and coordinating this event.

She also introduced a new member applicant, Dr. James Pfeifer and his fiancé, Dr. Pwint Phuy. We welcome them to the Tallahassee medical community.

Dr. Lockwood welcomed two special guests, Senator Don Gaetz and Virginia Glass. Dr. Lockwood recognized 12 CMS members who retired this past year: Dr. Joseph Baker, Dr. Tommy Enoch, Dr. Mitchell Massie, Dr. Suzanne Morgan, Dr. Leonard Leichus, Dr. H. Timothy Paulk, Dr. Randy Reese, Dr. Christopher Rumana, Dr. L. Steve Sarbeck, Dr. William Simmons, Dr. Larry Taylor, and Dr. Charles Williams. We wish them well in their retirement. A moment of silence was held to honor several physicians who passed away this past year: Dr. Richard Dozier, Sr., Dr. William “Bill” Long, Dr. John Craig Peterson, Dr. William Shipman, Dr. J.
