MEET THE 2017 CAPITAL MEDICAL SOCIETY PRESIDENT, TRACEY HELLGREN, M.D.

CMS: Where were you born and what brought you to Tallahassee?
CMS: What prompted you to pursue medicine and specialize in primary care?
TH: I was born in Bethpage, New York, but grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I came to Tallahassee to complete my undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry at Florida State University. I then went to medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine. I was thrilled to return to Tallahassee to complete my Family Medicine Residency at the Tallahassee Memorial Family Practice Residency Program. After graduating in 1993 (and becoming a Seminoles fan for life), I joined Patients First and have worked there ever since.
TH: When I was in high school, I was not sure what I wanted to do especially following in the footsteps of a high-powered older sister and brother. My high school guidance counselor (who I still have breakfast with when I am at my mom’s) felt I was a natural born family physician. Therefore, I came to Tallahassee and the PIMS program, and decided that a career in medicine worked for me. I decided I wanted to take care of the whole being. Other specialties interested me, but I knew primary care would allow me to have a family of my own and appropriately care for my patients. CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
