A TRIBUTE TO DR. CHARLES E. MOORE By Charles D. Williams, M.D., FACR, FAAP It is with great pleasure and considerable enthusiasm that I write this tribute to Dr. Charles E. Moore, who served as editor of the Cap Scan for over 30 years. This is a record that will probably never be broken and for this he deserves to be in the Cap Scan Hall of Fame or at least Editor Emeritus of Cap Scan. Under his direction, Cap Scan has evolved from a two page distribution to a first class medical society newsletter. During this time he composed many interesting, thought provoking, erudite and often humorous articles, as well as, keeping the Cap Scan intact and keeping the medical staff informed. In addition, many of you are also aware that he served for several years as editor of The Journal of the Florida Medical Association.
in the year 2000 when he got a new air conditioning system for his office. I had the privilege of serving with Dr. Moore on the Capital Medical Society Publications Committee, and I learned a lot from Dr. Moore. First, you gather the facts, and then, you can distort them in any way you choose. I consider Dr. Moore an intellectual. He has the ability to make simple things complex. He would also take phrases, like as the ball bounces, and say, “thus is the erratic manner and direction in which the resilient spheroid exhibits its compressive elasticity when propelled against a surface”. Again I would have to go to the dictiuwary.
I will pay Dr. Moore some compliments. When I get compliments, I feel embarrassed. I never feel like they say enough. I hope I say enough. Dr. Moore is unique. He walks to a different drummer. He wears those funny things around his neck. I think they are called ascots.
Dr. Armand Cognetta stated, “How fortunate we have all been to be regaled these many years by Dr. Moore in his monthly columns. Many of us needed a dictionary to get the full meaning but even when some of his prose went over our heads, it lifted us all a bit.”
I would like to give you some unknown facts about Dr. Moore. His birth weight was 3 pounds 8 ounces. One of his biggest accomplishments was reaching 40 pounds at age 8. Another great accomplishment was
There are many other aspects of Dr. Moore’s life that most of you are not familiar with since he contributed to the welfare of others without fanfare or notoriety. For example, he has served on the Board of Directors CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
