JANUARY EDITION, VOLUME 2017, NO. 1

HOLIDAY AUCTION EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS IN RAISING FUNDS FOR WE CARE NETWORK AND MEDICAL SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS By Pam Irwin, CMS Executive Director “You know we went to med school together,” said Dr. Scott Sellinger, speaking to his friend Dr. Alma Littles. “But,” he added, “you grew up to be a doctor, and I’ve become an elf.” Bedecked in an elf costume, Dr. Sellinger, and Dr. John Mahoney, in his green sport coat and red tie, hit another holiday jingle bell run serving as auctioneers for Capital Medical Society Foundation’s 15th annual Holiday Auction. The evening’s net proceeds of over $71,000 will support the Foundation’s mission of improving access to health care through its We Care Network and its robust scholarship program for FSU College of Medicine’s local students.

FSU College of Medicine Student Volunteers: (l-r) Clayton Fuqua, Clayton Rooks, Gabriella Edington, Elizabeth Ichite, David Powers, A.J. Rhodes, Brianna Baker, Jarrod Robertson, and Andrew Sellinger.

Each year, the competitive spirit and creativity of our many incredible donors in putting together their baskets and specialty items for the Capital Medical Society Foundation Auction, quite frankly, continues

to amaze not only the staff, but also those who attend. All donated items did make it to the Auction, although the CMS elves were tempted to do a little pre-Auction shopping! Quoted, but not identified, two item donors Title Sponsor, Tallahassee State shared that it was Bank: Patricia Griffin (left) and “on their bucket list Matt Brown (right) with Supporting to graduate to the Sponsor, Tallahassee Primary Care Live Auction,” and Associates: Tom Harrison (middle). they did this year! Although most of us enjoy a festive holiday party, the enthusiastic support of sponsors, donors, and smartphone-toting bidders to raise important dollars for We Care Network and medical school scholarships makes for an even more meaningful and lively evening. Whether it was the “Dinner for 8 prepared by Dr. Sergio Ginaldi,” a trip to Ireland, a cotton wreath, sports memorabilia for diehard Gator and Seminole fans, or paintings and photographs masterfully created by our own member physicians, the guests did not lack for something in their price range to get the bidding juices flowing. And bid, they did! CONTINUED ON PAGE 6
