HYPROV was co-created by Mochrie and Mecci along with Mochrie’s longtime manager, Jeff Andrews, in 2015 at Toronto’s Second City. Asad Mecci came up with the idea in 2014 and reached out to Colin. After working it out on stage, they took the show on the road to Just for Laughs London, Just for Laughs Montreal, and the Edinburgh Fringe where it received rave reviews in 2016 and 2017. The duo set out on a 50-city tour in 2019 and has, to date, performed over 100 shows across the U.S. and Canada. Hyprov is based on a production created by Colin Mochrie, Asad Mecci and Jeff Andrews and produced by Sarah Power.
Hyprov launched Off-Broadway at the Daryl Roth Theatre in 2022. Previews began on August 12th, with opening night on August 22nd. The Off-Broadway run closed as scheduled on Sunday, October 30th, 2022. Hyprov Off-Broadway was directed by Stan Zimmerman (“Golden Girls,” “Gilmore Girls”). Tony Award winner Bob Martin (The Prom, The Drowsy Chaperone) served as creative consultant. The Off-Broadway creative team included Jo Winiarski (scenic design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Walter Trarbach (sound design).
Rufus Wainwright, Grammy nominated Artist and one of the great male vocalists, songwriters and composers of his generation, created original music for the production.
HYPROV opened for a 6 month residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas on June 11th, 2023 and completed their run on December 30th, 2023.
HYPROV completed a 2 week run in Toronto, Canada at the CAA Theatre, selling over 7300 tickets over 16 shows. The successful run was promoted by the prestigious Mirvish Productions, the largest promoter of live theatre in Canada and one of the largest in the world.
HYPROV continues to tour throughout 2024 and 2025.
