SILENCE = DEATH

In 2024, over 400 LGBTQIA+ individuals accessed counseling through our trauma-informed, low-barrier mental health program. Between our Mental Health Director and supervised student interns, we delivered 1,592 therapy sessions and made 2,840 client contacts— ensuring care was consistent, culturally competent, and accessible across the region.
Peer support groups remained a lifeline for queer and trans individuals across the lifespan. With 1,610 attendances across 24 unique support groups—from Gender Diversity Group to Aging with Pride—our community found belonging, affirmation, and space to heal together in 2024.
Through our new EMPACT program, we delivered at least two trainings a month that equipped over 1,000 educators, service providers, and caregivers with life-saving tools to support LGBTQ+ youth. Grounded in research from the Family Acceptance Project and the Trevor Project, EMPACT builds empathy, reduces suicide risk, and transforms systems through affirming practice.
Over 40,000 attendees joined us for 2024 Pride events, with 150+ vendors and marchers filling downtown Albany. From Alt Prom to the 5K to our record-breaking Aging with Pride Cruise (270+ elders!), we created joyful, intergenerational spaces where LGBTQIA+ people are seen, celebrated, and safe.
We led statewide conversations about LGBTQIA+ equity, calling attention to funding gaps, rural service deserts, and the urgent need for community investment beyond urban centers. From policy visits to training tours, we amplified voices often left out of queer policy work—and began closing the visibility gap.

Across the country and here at home, LGBTQIA+ communities, in particular our transgender, gender nonconforming and nonbinary siblings, are navigating a rising tide of fear and hostility. These are not distant threats — they are attacks on our lives, our dignity, and our future. But in every city, suburb, and small town across the Capital Region, queer people are also living, thriving, and demanding a world where we are seen, valued, and protected. You have a birthright to be safe where you’re raisedandstayifyou’dlike, authenticallyyourself.
This year, the Pride Center and its partners launched the Out Here, Proud Here campaign to make one thing clear: we are everywhere. Visibility is not just a celebration — it’s a necessity. In times like these, we need bold, activated allies standing with us. We cannot assume progress will continue without effort. We must make it undeniable that queer lives matter, belong, andwillbedefended.
We know fear is real — and understandable. But elders like Audre Lorde have taught us that joy, courage, and living your truth out loud are acts of resistance. Every flag raised, every gathering, every act of open celebration is a powerful rejection of hate. This Pride season, we show up not because everything is perfect, but because we are building the future our community deserves: a future rooted in love, justice, andvisibility.
These times will not be easy; finding peace is already difficult. Building community is the answer, then we organize.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for being Out Here,ProudHere—todayandeveryday,
Nathaniel Gray, MSW | all pronouns ExecutiveDirector PrideCenteroftheCapitalRegion
HappyPride,y’all.
It is one of the deepest honors and privileges of my life to serve as the first cisgender, heterosexual ally to lead the Board of the Pride Center of the Capital Region. I did not cometothisseatbyaccident.
I came with open eyes, a full heart, and a fierce belief: You are not “them.” You are us. Our coworkers. Our friends. Our neighbors.Oursiblings.Ourelders. Our children.
Wearefamily.
You are stardust and strength. Beauty and boldness. You carry joy and pain, and despite all odds and barriers to simply being who you are, still — you show up as yourselves. That is radical. Thatissacred.
I did not choose who I am. Neither did you. But we all choose how we walk beside one another. Let us choose with courage. Let us choose to speak up — even when it’s uncomfortable. Let us choose love, especially when silence mightfeeleasier.
To our quiet allies: now is the time to be loud. Use your voice, your safety, your influence. Protect those whose light the world too often tries to dim. Your courage matters more thanyouknow.
And to those still holding tight to judgment, fear, or hate: I ask only this — choose better. Not because it’s easy, but becauseit’sright.
Pride is not just a party. It’s a promise. That we are one body, one community — and what happens to one of us, happenstoallofus.
Thank you for being you. Thank you for being brave. Thank youforcontinuingtobehere, together.
Thankyouforchoosingeachother.
