Twinkle on the Tchefuncte River was a night for families to gather, cheer, relax and sing carols on the bank of the river. Watercraft loaded with friends, families and neighbors parade along the river wearing the colors of Christmas and the U.S.A.

The St. Tammany Parish Council voted Dec. 18 to override Parish President Mike Cooper’s veto of two spending cuts the council made to the Cooper administration’s 2026 parish budget, a $620,000 cut to the Safe Haven mental health campus and an elimination of about $955,000 for employee raises. Those cuts were included in amendments the council made to Cooper’s proposed budget before adopting it Dec. 5. Cooper on Dec. 15 announced he had vetoed the cuts. committee, Roberts saw potential in the position for him to be a real difference-maker. His career has been centered around helping children reach their full potential, starting with his work as a paraprofessional in the St. Tammany Parish school system. “I was working in a PJ’s Coffee shop when someone came up to me and said they thought I would be good working with special education students. I don’t know exactly what they saw in me, but with their help, I got my certification and became a para. Their encouragement showed me that believing in someone could be powerful and how it could change a life,” Roberts said. After a few years, he went on to get his college degree, teach math and work as a computer technician and high school basketball coach in the school system. In all of these jobs, Roberts felt the calling to inspire
