THERE is a record amount of active COVID-19 cases in the region but health experts believe the peak of the virus will soon pass. Torres and Cape Hospital and

Health Service chief executive Bev Hamerton told Cape York Weekly that she was pleased with the region’s approach to COVID-19 and hoped the worst of it would soon be behind us. “We originally thought the peak

would be in late March but that is now being brought forward by a couple of weeks,” she said. “So far our systems are working fairly well and the numbers haven’t spiralled out of control. “School returning has played a

part in cases rising, but we thought that might happen. “But now is not the time to be complacent as we enter a period with high numbers of cases. We need everyone to be vigilant.” Full story – Page 6
