For the best part of two years, Cape York has managed to avoid cases of COVID-19. All that changed after Christmas when the first cases started rolling in. As the Omicron variant threatens to spread at a rapid rate, Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service chief executive Bev Hamerton (pictured) believes the region is well prepared to tackle the growing number of cases.

At the time of writing, there are 245 active cases in the Torres and Cape network. Ms Hamerton says she expects that number to grow, with the peak tipped for late February/early March.
