NORMALISATION TIMING IS RIGHT: WTA CHAIRMAN

We’re ready to split THERE has never been a better time for Weipa to become a normalised community and a decision must be made, Michael Rowland says. The chair of the Weipa Town Authority wants the state government to push ahead with plans to free the community of Rio Tinto’s control. “It’s time for Weipa to become a town with a mine and not a mining town,” Mr Rowland said. “We’ve been sitting at the table with Rio Tinto and the Queensland government and I think now is the right time to make the change.”
